Ryker

I wasn’t sure why I was still doing this, but here I was, driving to the Falloway family’s house for another one of those visits I never seemed to escape from.

It wasn’t like they weren’t good to me. Hell, they had taken me in when my own parents had passed. For this, visiting them never seemed like a chore.

As I parked in front of their house, I could already see the familiar sight of Aunt Eleanor, Alice's mother's standing at the door, her arms wide open as she waved me in. She was the type of woman who made you feel like you mattered, no matter what you had been through. Behind her stood Uncle Richard, his broad frame in the doorway, his face lit with the kind of smile only a father figure could have. I felt a lump form in my throat, but I pushed it down. I wasn’t here for that.

“Ryker! It’s been too long,” Aunt Eleanor greeted, her arms wrapping around me in a tight hug.

“Yeah, Aunt Eleanor. Been a while,” I muttered, patting her back awkwardly. It wasn’t that I didn’t

Zerah I woke up with a weird kind of energy in my chest. Not excitement, more like determination. Real, heavy determination.I sat up slowly, still wrapped in my sheets. Today was a weekend. Saturday to be exact. It felt surreal. All of that chaos had happened within a few days. And it was far from the end.Everything that happened yesterday kept playing in my head, the parking lot, the flash drive, Robinson’s men smashing it, Ryker's apology.I pushed away that last thought, looking at my closed laptop where the video file remained. I had gotten the evidence to help Emilia and get rid of Robinson's propped reputation. It wasn't enough. The video was good proof of Robinson's misconduct and blackmail to Elena. But what did that have to do with Ryker? Nothing, not directly. If I really wanted to help clear Ryker’s name, I’d need something that tied to him, to that night. And I had to find it fast.My hands clean ved around the sheets. He had admitted his mistakes to me last night, bu

ZerahI froze in place, my heart skipping a beat. I could tell he did as well. Shock wracked me as I processed the sight of him.His tall frame filled the space, hand was raised halfway to the door, like he was about to knock.I felt like I'd been punched in the gut, my breath catching in my throat. When did he come back? What was he doing here, at my doorstep? What did he want? A million questions swirled in my mind, but I couldn't form any words. It felt like a dangerous case of Deja Vu. Only last night, this situation happened, him drunk and me, angry. He'd once sworn to never touch my bedroom doorstep after that one drunken night six years ago, yet now he'd come to it not once but twice.Unlike last night however, there was no rancid stench of alcohol. No half lidded, unstable frame. His eyes were clear. He wasn't drunk and didn't seem to have touched a lock of alcohol. Good. The confirmation made my gaze roam even further. His shirt was wrinkled, a far cry from the pristine lo

ZerahThe drive back to my home, if one could call it that, seemed to span an eternity in the silence. My hands were tightly clenched around the steering wheel. The echoes of the panic I'd felt in the parking lot earlier still rang through me. I couldn't deny that I was slightly shaken, but it wasn't jarring. Not when i'd expected it. Not when I'd already been warned.FLASHBACK: THE COFFEE SHOP I stood up to leave when Elena suddenly grabbed my arm. “Wait,” she said, her voice more urgent. My breath hitched as she pulled me back, leaning in.“Sit down.” She whispered an urgency in her tone that made me alarmed. What was wrong? My gut coiled in anxiety as I obeyed.“There's no way he doesn't know about this meeting. With the people following me, he… he'll probably have predicted why I'm here.” she said, her expression shifting into something unreadable.“If he knows, then he might go after you. He might try to take...” she trailed off, but the insinuation was clear. My skin pric

Zerah My gut tightened at her words. Before I could reassure her, she raised her hand with a bitter smile. “I know it won't, this is just a precaution. I'm grateful for this and for you…but I'm still selfish, and I have my fears and doubts. If it comes crashing down, not just me but my family will be hurt. I have no doubt that he's capable of that,” she said, “So please, on the probability that this doesn't pan out and he wins, I need you to promise me that nobody will know that I'm involved. We never spoke of this and I never gave you that drive. Even when this goes public, promise me that I'll remain anonymous. Can you do that?” I stood there, frozen, as Elena's words hung in the air. As I looked into her eyes, I saw the depth of her anxiety. The decision solidified. I had promised to help her and protect her. I also had to ensure that she wasn't caught in the crossfire. I nodded. “I promise. You'll remain anonymous,” I promised sincerely. There was the question of what e

ZerahFor a moment, it was like I'd stopped breathing. Shock ran through me like a tidal wave as I replayed those words over again in my head. A video of Robinson threatening her. A piece of substantial evidence. It may be one incident, one piece of evidence, but a single incident was all that was needed to crumble someone's reputation. For someone like James who was in his high, propped up by the press at this time, it would change everything. This could be everything we needed. “Zerah.”I was snapped back to reality at the call of my name. Looking back at Elena, her dark eyes clearer, it was like a weight had been lifted from my chest.“Where is it?" I asked. My voice came out slightly more eager than expected but it was too late to back track.Elena's face shifted a fraction. She leaned back in her seat and panic filled me. “Wait. I'm sorry if I startled you. I didn't mean to.” I rushed out. I couldn't let my abrupt reaction drive her away. Her only response was a brief shak

Ryker“Mr. Davidson!” Jason snapped, quickly pulling me out of my trance. I blinked back to reality to meet the glow of sundown. It was already evening, I noted listlessly.Hours had passed, nearing the full day, yet nothing had been solved.Turning back to the two people in my office, Jason paced frantically."Alright. Luckily, we've managed to contain it here at the office. Barely,” he glanced at me before continuing, “Since Mr Davidson has already talked to the employees, assuring them that all will be taken care of. It's only right that we do so.”“And how do you suggest we do that?" Evelyn, sitting on the other chair, raised an eyebrow. Despite flagellating me in the meeting before, she had arrived here unannounced, no doubt for her own interests. “Do we lock ourselves up? Sounds like a plan." She smiled, her voice dripping with skepticism.Jason's jaw ticked as he turned to her.“Mrs Rodriguez, this is neither the time nor the place for scorn. We're both directors here and y
