Chapter 1

Penulis: Perfect Timing
I thought Sparky was some child's nickname. I asked about him while stroking my daughter's head.

"What's Sparky's real name, Lily?"

Lily shook her head with a questioning look.

"Sparky doesn't have any other name. He's called Sparky! His eyes are redder than his lips. They're so pretty."

Red eyes?

That did not sound like a normal child.

A child would never appear in the kindergarten without the teacher being aware of it. I continued asking Lily about him patiently.

"When did you play hide-and-seek with Sparky?"

Lily's eyes widened innocently. "During naptime. We weren't able to sleep, so Sparky brought us to play hide-and-seek."

I messaged the teacher, Ms. Channing, about it.

Ms. Channing shared footage of the kindergarten with me right away.

"We can guarantee that all the children had been asleep during naptime, Mrs. Ford. All our teachers had been watching the doors. None of the children had gone out to play hide and seek."

It was just like Ms. Channing had said. All the children were sleeping peacefully in their little beds in the footage she shared.

I pointed at my daughter sleeping soundly in the footage and was quite stern when I spoke.

"Lily, try to remember. Were you playing hide-and-seek with Sparky in your dreams?"

She looked back at me seriously with a retort. "Sparky plays hide-and-seek with us every day, Mommy. I can't be dreaming about Sparky every day, can I? He even gave us hugging bears."

I took the hugging bear Lily held up to me. I was about to check this with the other parents in our group chat when I noticed an ongoing argument in the group.

Gina (Janice's mom): [My daughter's asthma is working up because of this hugging bear. I won’t let my daughter risk her life for this toy.]

Ms. Channing got anxious and shared the student list in the group.

It was strange that there was no one called Sparky among the 120 students in the list.

Charlie (Jonah's dad): [My son has the same hugging bear. I thought it was a gift from the kindergarten, but my son said that it was from a child called Sparky. He said Sparky is a boy with red eyes. It doesn't sound like a lie when he can describe that boy clearly.]

Ms. Channing immediately denied this. [Our kindergarten has never given any hugging bears to the children.]

Sarah (Cindy's mom): [Stop giving Ms. Channing such a hard time. I've asked my daughter about it, and she said she's never met a boy called Sparky. She didn't even receive any hugging bear.]

Everyone was sharing all sorts of information, which forced Ms. Channing to make the announcement.

[May anyone whose child has seen Sparky or received a hugging bear please make a trip to the kindergarten. We would like to look into this.]

The group chat was finally silent. Lily, who had been quiet all this time, suddenly sighed.

"Janice won't be able to make it to the kindergarten tomorrow.

"She was the first person caught by Sparky when we were playing hide-and-seek. Sparky said he'll be taking her to the dark room as punishment."

One of the children was so scared that they told their parents. All eight pairs of parents were afraid of their children being blamed for it, so they bribed the teacher and headmaster to hide Elaine's body in a fridge to make it appear as though she had died in an accident while playing hide-and-seek.These parents were also worried that their children would be traumatized, so they decided to hire a psychologist to wipe their memories.Elaine's parents appealed several times for the case to be reopened but to no avail. In the end, they left this place of sorrow. In the end, we managed to find the missing children in the abandoned well. The well had been abandoned for decades and had already dried up.However, someone had connected a pipe to it that would fill the well with water. The water would slowly rise as time passed. It would have taken 30 minutes to rise above the children's heads. That was why the mastermind had set a 30-minute timeframe for this. When we got to the well

Some of them hesitated while others looked puzzled. However, no one could give me a definite answer. That was until Gavin arrived at the kindergarten with another police officer. It was Officer Jenkins' colleague."I found an important clue. At least one parent of every child dosed with the hallucinatory drug attended Red Sun Kindergarten 20 years ago. You were all involved in the girl's death while playing hide-and-seek.""That's not possible. I don't remember anything about it at all!" Someone stepped forward and denied it."Yeah! My husband and I studied in a kindergarten out of town!"Officer Jenkins explained things further."Your parents were afraid you'd be traumatized over this event, so they hired a psychologist to hypnotize you. That's why most of you have forgotten about attending Red Sun Kindergarten.""So what if we've forgotten about it?! We were only five back then! Can a five-year-old murder another five-year-old girl?" someone retorted.I sneered. "One child mi

One of the parents who lost a child kicked the hugging bear, which went flying, with great anger."Calm down! Finding the children should be our priority!"I had no idea who was behind this, but there was nothing more important than finding the children first.Ms. Channing came over with several flashlights, and she divided them among us.However, ten minutes had passed… We had searched every corner but could not find the children. The parents broke down as they yelled angrily at the empty air."What do you want? Did we offend you in any way? Come after us instead if we did anything to you. Why are you torturing the children? They're innocent!"Some of them even knelt to the ground, crying."Please give me back my daughter! I'll do anything you want!"However, no one answered them. That was when Officer Jenkins' phone rang. It was a call from the police station. After hanging up, he spoke grimly to us."My colleague has news from the investigation. The girl who died 20 year

"Initial investigations indicate that the culprit is hiding in the kindergarten. As for where the children have gone, we'll need to screen all security cameras in the city to find them."Someone came with good news the moment the police officer was done talking."We found them. The children are all headed in the same direction. Rainbow Kindergarten."We looked at each other, then immediately followed the police to where the children were last seen.Ms. Channing was there as well.We saw every child holding a hugging bear through the security camera.Their eyes were blank, and they walked robotically. They ignored anyone who spoke to them. All they did was walk together toward Rainbow Kindergarten.Strangely enough, they did not head to the main entrance. They collectively walked toward the back entrance of Rainbow Kindergarten.None of the parents knew that Rainbow Kindergarten had a back entrance. We turned to look at Ms. Channing. She explained with a grim look on her face.

The screen on my phone, which was connected to the security camera, contorted right after I made the call.I wondered if it was my imagination, but I saw my daughter speak to the camera. As the screen had frozen, I did not hear what she said. However, I could recognize a word from how she mouthed it."Mad…"After that, the entire screen went black.Seeing this, I rushed home right away.Gavin rushed over when he heard the commotion."What's wrong, Lyana?"I grabbed his collar and roared at him. "Where's Lily? Didn't I tell you to stay by her side? Tell me! Where's Lily?!"Gavin turned pale. He looked around the room and ran into the living room, bathroom, and kitchen. He searched the entire house but did not find Lily. That was when he broke down and apologized."I'm sorry, Lyana! All I did was go to the bathroom. I didn't think anything would happen to Lily. The door was locked. Lily is too young to open a locked door!"It was too late to explain anything.I dialed 911 ri

My back was immediately drenched in cold sweat. This was all so bizarre…Lily's words came true again.I quickly asked Ms. Channing for more details."Why would Jonah go to the river for no reason?""Mr. Evans thought the hugging bear was bad luck, and he threw it into the river."Jonah somehow managed to sneak out through the door in the middle of the night. He ran toward the river to find the hugging bear and ended up drowning."I took in a cold, sharp breath when I heard that."Was he hugging the hugging bear when the police found Jonah's body?""Yes, he was!" Ms. Channing added, "I've already given your address to the police. They will be coming to confiscate all the hugging bears of unknown sources."This was good news.Lily was not happy about it, but the police tried their best to convince her."We're worried for the safety of these hugging bears, which is why we're taking them away for protection. Don't worry, we'll return it to you once we're sure they’re safe, alri
