Chapter 2: Shaken

Keanna woke up and although she was not sure whose house she was, it’s as if her own body could remember where to find what. Apparently, the house has a common bathroom. She closed her eyes and sat on the toilet but when she heard some movement, she stopped and tried to listen to whatever must have made the sound. She opened her eyes and saw a man’s head looking at her behind the shower curtain.

“Kyla? How many times do I have to tell you to knock and not enter the bathroom while you are half asleep?” Asked the man, she could still see some shampoo on his head and some soap on his face.

She was so surprised she could not react right away, then she jumped from the toilet and hurriedly put on her pajamas. She ran while screaming, she went to the storage room and saw a bat, she started running towards the bathroom again when it suddenly opened. She waved the bat to the man who was only wearing a towel. She doesn’t want to think what she might see underneath that.

“What the hell, Kyla!” the man exclaimed when she started walking towards him while waving the bat.

“Who are you?” she shouted at him, still aiming the bat at the man.

“Are you drunk?” His expression shows how annoyed he was at her and then he walked around her and entered another room.

Still not knowing what had happened, she knocked on the door.

“I am asking you who you are?” she shouted again.

“Kyla, please I have a meeting to attend to today, will you please stop this nonsense and get back to bed just like you used to?” The man said. She could hear some movement, maybe the man is already getting ready.

“But..”

“Kyla, stop. Please stop and let me do what I need to do, okay?” She was not able to finish what she was to stay when she heard the man’s voice as if he was fed up with her actions.

Still unable to understand what was happening, she went to the room where she slept and rummaged through her drawers. She was starting to feel scared and she still cannot fathom what and why she was living with a man she barely knew and why she is being called another name. She went straight to her bag and saw her phone. She looked for Taylor’s number, he is the only person she could think of right now. He is the only one familiar to her at this moment and she needs him right now. She knows they used to be really close when they were younger and she knows he still cares for her. While looking for some things in her bag that would somehow give her any clue about her current situation, she heard a shout outside her room, her ears ringing loudly.

She had dissociated from herself and she just had stopped moving. She looked around and when she saw what she looked like in the mirror, she knew something was not good. She almost jumped when her phone rang.

“Hello?” she said

“Are you okay?” That's what she heard from the other line. He sounded worried. “Keanna, are you okay?” The woman flinched when she heard her name, she looked at the phone in her hand and was relieved to see it was Taylor.

“Nothing, I just need to get out of here, I need you.” She said trying to stay calm. She does not want to burden him with worry when she herself does not know the whys and hows she has in mind.

“Alrighty, stay where you are, I’ll be there in an hour.” He said.

“You take care, I’ll see you.” She said before hanging up the phone.

She looked around the room again, she was trying to rack her mind of so many things. First off, is how she ended up living with a man she doesn’t know. How she could not remember anything aside from graduating and having a party with her friends. The year she saw on her phone was 2017 and she knows, she graduated in 2014. Where did the 3 years of her life go? What has she done during those years, was she in a coma? And why does she somehow feel dissociated from reality?

She was still in a daze when she heard a voice outside her room.

“I’m leaving. I won’t be home until the end of the month as I would have to be on an out-of-town trip. Don’t forget to pay the bills on the twentieth, okay.” She looked at her phone, it’s the 15th and she still couldn’t understand what the man was saying.

After a while, she went around the house, trying to remember if she could remember anything about the house. It’s as if her body knows the place, she knows where to go and knows where to find whatever she needs when she prepares her things. She does not want to stay here, she needs to be with someone she knows and that would be Taylor for now.

She did not have to wait for a long time, Taylor as the guy she knew, was in time to pick her up.

“Good thing, I wasn’t that drunk last night when I drove you home. I was able to remember where to pick you up.” He said as she opened the door for him.

“Glad you still have brains,” Just seeing him has already made her feel better. She’s a good actress so she could definitely work out on how to not worry him.

“Whoa, missy. Are you planning on staying somewhere else?” he asked when he saw the bag she was carrying.

“Huh, of course,” she said walking down the hallway, she knows Taylor is at her heels.

“Mind telling me where?”

“Yours, where else?” she said, smiling at him. Seeing him almost makes her feel better. Knowing that he is around makes her feel like she was not having an issue.

She feels like she’s in some sort of a movie. Although she doesn’t know how this will end, she would definitely enjoy it like she was able to do so before.

It was a long drive, luckily it was a good day and she had fun looking around the place. It’s as if she was in a different place and she became certain when she saw the trees around the area.

She knew he was waiting for her to say something and since she doesn’t know her current situation herself, she didn’t talk.

“How’s Jane, by the way?” Remembering Taylor’s younger sister.

“Last I heard, she is having a girl, I haven’t seen her though.” She was surprised to hear that but she did not let him see her expression. She could not remember being on her wedding day. What she could remember was she went abroad and she assumed that’s where she must have gotten married.

“Congratulations is a must then.” she said, smiling at him. Noting to herself that she would have to check her on the internet. “Right,” she thought, she needs to know a lot of things and the Internet could be a big help.

Luckily, there wasn’t a lot of traffic since it was noon, so they had lunch on the road, enjoying their favorite sandwich from a convenience store they used to visit when they were young. It was fun being with her friend, she could almost forget what her current situation is. She would definitely look into it, but now she must have fun with her friend.
