After I dug her grave, I carried the dead doctor's body and dumped it in like it didn't matter. I had killed a hundred people in the past and had buried their bodies, this meant nothing to me. I could do this over and over again without getting tired or feeling remorse; of course, I had no feelings left in me. I picked up the shovel and began covering up the grave.
When I was done, I headed to school and was planning to behave like nothing had happened. If Solomon found out, I would be in big trouble. I had to keep out today's morning event as long away from him as possible. I arrived in the hallway and noticed people walking up and down. It was time for our next class, history.
I strolled towards the class, my hands in my pockets. I wore neither a hoodie nor a jacket which made my hands feel awkward in my jeans pockets. I made my way into the class and sat down at my usual spot. I leaned back on my chair and folded my arms on my chest. Hope Wallace and Kate McCullough came in and took their normal sitting positions.
As Hope took a seat beside me, her sunflower fragrance invaded the air in front of me and was sucked into my lungs. Her fragrance burnt in my throat roughly. To be honest, she did smell nice but it was making me feel uncomfortable presently.
The teacher came in slowly and kept her handbag on the desk. I looked at her bandaged wrist and memories of yesterday flew back into my mind. I had almost emptied her blood vessels yesterday. She was lucky Solomon was there to stop me or she would have been buried in the woods with the unlucky doctor. I smirked as I thought of this.
"Is something funny, Mr Hawthorne?" she asked. I sat up erect and looked up at her.
"No, Mrs. Jerome,” I answered.
"I hope so,” she said and got back to reading from her textbook. She was explaining a riot that had happened in 1913. The workers were underpaid by the government and they retaliated by showing their anger to them. But the government didn't still increase their pay. I took it upon myself and slaughtered the whole council of leaders with their families, and I enjoyed every second of it.
I was brought back to the classroom as Hope swung her hair. Her sunflower scent flushed into my lungs again. If she continued this way, I would get mad at her, and not even I know what I might do to her. Kate and she were talking about a movie, which was of no interest to me but I paid attention anyway.
The bell rang after a long while and I was glad that it did. I stood up and walked out of the room without looking at anyone in particular. My next class was biology, meaning I would spend the next hour with Hope sitting a foot apart from me. My body shuddered in disgust as I thought of this.
I got into the lab and sat on the stool. Solomon came in and sat in front of me. He didn't even look at me. And then he turned and looked at me with narrowed eyes. I knew he was still mad at me and he was trying to read my mind to find out if I had don't anything bad today. Luckily for me, I had locked away such memories.
"Be nice to her Desmond, we need to know what she is,” Solomon pleaded.
I sighed and nodded in agreement. Hope walked into the class slowly and looked up at me as she approached our table. She tore away her eyes when our eyes met and I noticed her blush. She looked down as she walked up and took a seat beside me. Her sunflower fragrance filled the air around us. Of course, it still burnt in my throat.
She got her textbook out of her bag and placed it awkwardly on the table. Her heart pounded fast and I could hear her blood flushing quickly through her veins. Our skins touched as she shifted on her stool uncomfortably and she withdrew her hand immediately when she found out mine was dead cold. She was afraid and I smiled in satisfaction.
"Sorry,” she apologized softly.
"Do not worry about it,” I accepted.
"Oh, so you speak,” she said, turning to look at me in surprise. I didn't answer her. She sat back and bit her lower lip. She knew she had said something bad. We were quiet for some moments and then she spoke.
"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said that,” she apologized again.
"Why do you keep on apologizing for every single thing?" I requested in somewhat disgust.
"Well sometimes because it's the right thing to do,” she pointed out.
"No, it just makes you look feeble,” I explained.
"That's what people like you think,” she hit back.
I was surprised by her sentence. I chuckled softly careful enough to not let Mr Brown hear my voice.
"What do you think of me?" I asked.
"You're a bad person, I think,” she replied feebly.
"What makes you think that?"
"Because you don't talk to anybody apart from your brother, who by the way seems so nice compared to you,” she said straightforwardly.
I chuckled again. I didn't know what to say. She had hooked me badly.
"Well, okay,” I said.
"I didn't mean it that way", she added quickly and apologetically.
"Then?"
She opened her mouth to speak then closed it again. It seemed like I had hooked her too.
"I don't know what to say,” she finally spoke.
"Then don't,” I said and kept my shut.
That ended our conversation till the bell rang. I stood up and placed my hands into my hoodie's pockets. I stepped out of our table and walked out of the class not waiting for Solomon.
I took a sit at my usual table in the cafeteria. Solomon walked slowly to our table and took a seat. The good thing about this table was that nobody dared to join us at our table. Maybe they felt unworthy to sit with two unexplainable beautiful teenagers. I chuckled in my mind as I thought of this.
Solomon looked at me and chuckled out loud; I guessed he had read my mind. I was starting to feel uncomfortable and insecure any time I was around him because he made me feel naked going through my thoughts. This was also a reason I left Winekove in the 1800s.
"How did you feed?" he asked.
The question took me by surprise. The thought of the dead doctor's body buried somewhere in the forest came back into my mind and quickly disposed of it before he read my mind.
"I have my ways,” I answered.
"I hope it was decently?" he asked again, crosschecking if I kept the deal we made with Celestial pack.
"Do you not trust me brother?" I hit back.
He simply folded his hands across his chest ignoring the question and sighed. I pushed my eyes toward Hope's table and saw her eating and talking with Katie McCullough. Then, the unexpected happened.
Melissa Whitmore walked into the cafeteria and glanced around. I had completely forgotten about her since that day we had sex. She spotted me and headed towards us. I forgot to compel her to forget about me.
Damn! I exclaimed in my mind.
She approached us and took a seat beside Solomon. She looked up at me with a huge smile. I felt like throwing up. As I attempted to compel her, an idea came into my mind. Since I couldn't kill anybody, I could just make her my feeding bag. Anytime I get hungry I would just feed on her. I was a genius. I gave her a fake smile.
Solomon narrowed his eyes at me as he found out my plan.
"What the hell are you doing, brother?" he spat.
"I'm rearranging the deal,” I said comfortably. "As far as I'm not killing her, I haven't broken the deal, Solomon".
Melissa just stared back and forth at us as we spoke. She must have heard everything we had said and I had to fix that.
"Forget about the conversation we just had,” I commanded.
She nodded in agreement. I leaned back on my chair satisfied that it had worked.
"Would you love to come over tonight?"I asked with a smirk.
"Sure,” she accepted, nodding her head too.
"7pm?"
"Yes.”
The bell rang and she stood up to go to her next class. Solomon just sat back watching me. We were having gym class next and I thought of joining the basketball team. I hope Solomon would comply too.
"Sure, why not? Let us give it a try. I'm bored,” he agreed.
We stood up and went to gym class. The locker room was filled with half-naked boys dressing up for training. They turned and stared at us as we walked in. It wasn't awkward anymore because we were used to it.
A man in his late thirties; blonde with blue eyes came in dressed in a black shirt, red shorts that stopped above his knees, and a baseball cap. A whistle hung on his neck and he held a register. I guessed him to be the team's coach.
"Alright old ladies, go into the court and begin your drills,” he ordered.
The boys hurried out of the room obeying his orders while I and Solomon stayed back. The man scribbled something on the register he held and then looked up at us.
"And who the hell are you guys?" he asked rudely.
"We want to join the basketball team,” Solomon offered.
"No, we are enough, better luck next year,” he said and turned to go.
I zoomed in and held him back. I made him face us and held him by the neck of his shirt. If he didn't want us to join the basketball team then we will force him to.
"Desmond forget about this,” Solomon said.
"No,” I said turning to face him. I turned back to the coach and compelled him. "You will let me and my brother join the team because we are the best players you have ever seen.”
I let go of him and he blinked twice. He looked at us with a confused face at first.
"Desmond and Solomon right? Why are you guys still in your clothes? Change up and join the boys,” he ordered.
"Yes coach,” I said chuckling.
He nodded and left the room. I turned to Solomon and laughed out loud. Solomon just stood looking at me with his hands folded. I rolled my eyes at how serious he was.
"Why cannot you have fun a times brother?"
"Humans are not puppets, you can't control them to do your every bidding,” he warned.
"I am the immortal one, I am the one with the abilities meaning I can do anything I want Solomon", I pointed out. "And do not act like I wanted these abilities in the first place.”
He was silent; of course, he had to be. He knew what his mother and he did. And with that, we changed up and went for training.
The training was fun. I didn't realize that I was good at basketball. I never missed a basket, thanks to my powers. I was surprised that Solomon was also good at it. We made accurate three-pointers while the other boys watched with their jaws dropped. Coach, on the other hand, was impressed with our display and was delighted to have discovered us ( even though I made him find us out with force). After training, we went back to the locker room and showered up. I didn't feel uncomfortable bathing with humans, which was very awkward. I changed into my regular clothes and walked into the hallway with Solomon. The afternoon sun washed half of the hallway with its light and bathed our skin. Our skins would glow and shine like diamonds if we were normal vampires. That was why normal vampires wore sun bracelets or rings. I pitied Oliver because he had no sun ring making him stuck at home. I had one more sun ring in my possession. When I met him,
The box was carved with ancient writings, probably Greek or Latin. It was black and was not much bigger than a jewelry box. I opened it and found two pieces of jewelry. One was the sun ring I was looking for, and the other was a bracelet I had forgotten about. It was a silver chain decorated with ruby diamonds. Those diamonds were capable of resisting compulsion from any Genesis Vampire. I looked at the bracelet, and it brought back memories I had never wanted to recall. I took out the ring and closed the box. I slid it under the shelf and walked out of the Cellar with the ring in my hoodie pocket. As I got back to the living room, I saw Solomon sitting on the couch with a glass of alcohol in his hand. "You were right, Desmond; I did make a mistake," he said, not looking at me. I smirked and folded my hands across my chest, savoring the victory. "It is fine, brother. We all make mistakes", I comforted as I sat beside him. "Today at the hall, I saw something," he began."What?" I sa
We drove silently back home after school, Solomon staring out the window through the entire drive. I didn't know if he wanted me to feel guilty for what I did at the cafeteria earlier today. The truth was, I wouldn't. I was heartless, emotionless, as he had described, and happy with it. I swerved into the marble lot of our compound and parked the car inside the garage. I slumped on my bed when I entered the room and stared at the ceiling. It was just white, empty, and vast. My mind took me to Oliver. I hadn't seen Zack today, meaning his father was supposed to arrive soon and start wailing. I got downstairs and went straight to the fridge. I opened it and got a bottle of 7.42. I poured myself a glass and took a sip. The alcohol burns at the back of my throat; ecstasy. I carried my glass into the sitting room and saw Solomon sitting on the couch, staring into space with his legs crossed while lost in thought. I leaned on the door frame an
17 AUGUST 1873. I woke up and found myself on a bed in a room I couldn't believe I would find myself in. My clothes were old, and so was everything in the room; I was in 1873, the year I dreaded most. Yes, I feared something. The door opened, and a maid came in with a new pair of clothes folded neatly. I looked at her face, and memories flooded back into my mind. Adrenaline flushed into my veins as I remembered her. Her blue eyes could instantly cure my anger, her black hair shone in the sun, and her lips tasted like strawberries. She was Mary Sherringham, the first girl I fell in love with. And she was the chief maid of Stephanie Collins, the daughter to the Mayor of Winekove. Whatever was happening, I wouldn't say I liked it one bit. First, I was trapped at the bottom of an ocean; now, I relived the worst year of my eternal life. "Good morning, sire," she greeted with a smile. Her voi
I found myself in a dark, empty, and cold situation again. I had the same feelings as last time. At least I wasn't at the bottom of the ocean this time. I felt like I had been tied up with ropes that burnt into my skin. The pain was endless, and once again, I prayed for it to stop. 28 SEPTEMBER 1873 This time, I found myself standing just outside the mansion. I remembered this day too. It was a September morning, a typical summer morning. The bird chirped and flew across the house, and the sun rays washed every inch of every room and yard in the mansion. Solomon and I were taken in by Mayor Collins when we got back from France. It was the first time we had returned to Winekove since our transformation. We had nowhere to go, our house was no more, and trees covered the spot it had stood. Luckily, Stephanie was passing by in her carriage and saw us stranded. She took us home and told her father we had no way to go. He offered us shelter and food, and we accepted it gratefully. We a
I retreated my fangs from her palm after pouring some of my venoms inside her to heal the wound. I cleaned my mouth with my wrist and shifted back slowly. The scenario was weird and disturbing. She looked at her palm and was surprised that it had healed. "I guess your mum did not tell you everything about us," I said. She just scoffed a laugh while examining her palm. "Why aren't you afraid of me?" I demanded. "Because what I feel for you is greater than the weight of your secret," she said, shifting closer to me. "No, no. This doesn't seem right", I said." I'm a monster. We can't be together". "I don't care about that, Desmond; every inch of my body is longing for you," she said, rising and moving closer to me. "But what about the Mayor's rule?" I asked again. "I don't care either." By this time, her lips were an inch away from mine. She looked into my eyes once last time. I could hear the sound of her heartbeat. It was pounding hard against her chest. She placed her lips on
I was back again in the ocean. This time I was drowning, choking on the water as it rushed into my lungs. My brain felt like it had been set on fire, but I couldn't do anything about it. I couldn't move, nor could I swim. It felt like a spellbound me. Pain stabbed my lungs as they were filled up with water. I faded out slowly till everything became dark. I woke up this time on the shore of an ocean. I looked around and saw vast emptiness. There was nothing in sight apart from the sea. I gulped in fear. I summoned courage and stood up. I tried using my supernatural abilities, but they didn't work. The sun above my head beat down on my skin, and it felt hot, which was very strange. My throat burnt with thirst, but I didn't long for blood. I longed for water. And then it hit me. I was human! I gasped in horror as the realization struck me. I turned back and dived into the ocean. The ocean quickly faded, and I fell on the sand. I stood up, confused and enraged. There was no other optio
"What are you doing here?" I asked. "I... I came to study with Solomon", she said." I heard you were traveling to Australia to see a relative." I turned and looked at Solomon, who sat on the couch. He gave me a big smile. I wish I could slap the hell out of him. "Yeah, I did," I said as I cue into the lie. "That's good," she said, nodding her head with a smile. Her frizzled hair which was puffed, bounced slowly, hitting against her bronze skin. "I'll see you around then," I said, reminding myself I had a destination. "Okay then, have fun," she said, stepping in while I stepped out. Her hair brushed against my jacket and got stuck on one of its buttons. "Ouch!" she exclaimed as she was drawn back with it. I looked at where we were connected and sighed. Anytime she was close to me, there had to be trouble. "Wait, let me get it," I said as I unraveled it. Her two hands rested on my chest, and she looked up at me. For a second, I stopped and looked at her, too, as our eyes made co
