After about a one-hour drive, Alexis pulled over a hillside. He got out of the car and opened the door for Selena.
They were both surprised at the setup on the place. There was a white picnic cloth laid on the grass. On the mini table were sparkling wine, wine glasses, some cold cuts, and mini sandwiches. There were also mini pillows lying on the mat. Above those was a white lace canopy with fairy lights. And they were illuminated by a million stars in the sky.
She glanced at him. “Hinanda mo lahat nang ‘to?” She was smiling from ear to ear.
He shook his head. “I asked our butler na tulungan ako mag-set up. But he might have overdone it a little,” he answered, scratching his cheek.
She looked back at the setup. She walked towards it and made hers
“Happy birthday to you. Happy birthday to you…” It was Limstella Andrea’s birthday. Janelle, Rex, Darren, and other children of their age whose parents have business with theirs were there to celebrate that special day. “…Happy birthday to you.” Limstella blew the candle as the other children finished their song. They clapped and rejoiced with her. “Andie! Here’s my gift. Open it!” Janelle excitedly handed a big box to Limstella. The celebrant opened the box and her eyes widened at the content. She took the white teddy bear with a pink ribbon brooch pinned on its neck from the box. “Thank you, Janey. I love it! I’ll take care of her, I promise.” She hugged the bear and hugged her best friend as well.
“Anak? Selena? Haliika dali!” Selena went out from her brother’s room. “Nay, bakit?” “Halika, anak. Tignan mo ‘to. Dali!” Her mother said as she handed the letter to Selena. “May sulat ka galing sa Wynnford. Buksan mo na.” Her mother’s excitement was written all over her face. Selena's forehead creased. “Wynnford? Bakit naman po nila ako padadalhan ng sulat?” “Kaya nga buksan mo na para malaman na natin,” she encouraged. She carefully opened the envelope. She pulled out the letter and read its contents. Dear Miss Manansala, We are pleased to inform you that you have bee
School bell rang to signal lunch break. Selena returned to her classroom. Her friends quickly ran towards her. "Selena! Anong nangyari sa'yo? Nag-alala kami ng sobra sa'yo. May masakit ba sa'yo?" Kringle asked in a panicked voice. "Sorry. Okay naman na 'ko ngayon." Selena looked down, rubbing her hands. "Sorry ka d'yan. Ano bang feeling na makarga ni Alexis?" Kringle asked jokingly, elbowing Selena's arm. Selena felt her cheeks warm. "Ha? Ano kasi..." She was thinking of something to say when she was suddenly interrupted by giggles from some of her girl classmates, which caused her to turn. Their school twin heart throbs, Alexis Darren and Alexander Rex Fontanilla, were standing by the entrance of their room.
"Salamat sa paghatid," Selena thanked him when they reached the gate of her dormitory. Xander gave her bag back and she took it from him. "Sige, papasok na 'ko," she said with a smile then turned away. "Wait." She stopped and turned back to him. "Hmm? Bakit?" "You mentioned earlier na may trabaho ka pa," he said, reminded of their little chit chat along the way to her dormitory. "Ah, mmm." She nodded. "Kailangan kong pumasok. May naiwan pa kasi akong trabaho do'n." "Sa'n ka ba nagtatrabaho?" "Dyan sa coffee shop na malapit dito." And she pointed towards the s
Marga entered the Fontanilla mansion without bothering to say her intention to the maid that greeted her. It's common knowledge that the reason why Marga comes to the mansion was always either Alexis or Alexander, but mostly the former. She went straight to the library where Alexander stayed most of the time. She found him sitting on the study table, reading a book. She slammed her hands on the table. “Who is that girl you were with?” Alexander flipped a page on his book, not bothering to look at Marga. “Pwede ba, Marga. Hindi lahat ng babaeng makakausap ko or ni Alexis kailangan kilala mo.” “I have to. Baka mamaya pera lang ang habol n’un sa inyo,” she said, her voice raised an octave. “She’s not like that.” She c
"How are you going to play with that kind of injury, ha, Fontanilla?" Mr. Herrera, the basketball team's coach, asked, his brows creased. "I'm sorry, coach," was Xander’s only answer. "Sorry? How could you hide such thing? Hindi ko pa malalaman na may injury ka kung hindi ko nakita ang reaksyon mo nung mabangga ni Simon 'yang kamay mo. Paano na lang kung lumala 'yan? Ano na lang ang mangyayari sa team?" His coach said continually, his tone hadn't changed. Xander didn't say a word. He just let his coach talk, words were just passing by his ears. And besides, he didn't want to explain anything. "Ang mabuti pa," Mr. Herrera continued, not even noticing that he was already talking to air, "humingi ka kay Ms. Lei ng medical certificate, para maipaalam natin sa admin
Selena stared at him. Totoo ba 'tong naririnig ko? Inaaya n'ya akong lumabas? 'Di ba ako nananaginip? She asked herself. "Wala. Walang gagawin 'yan. Libre 'yan pagkatapos ng klase natin, 'di ba?" Kringle butted in. She elbowed her friend beside her, not sure if it's Lucy or Sharmaine. Sharmaine, being the one who was elbowed, was forced to say something too. "Tama. Tapos naman na lahat ng gagawin namin kaya pwede na s'ya." Lucy didn't say a thing but she nodded, agreeing to what the two had just said. Axis just smiled at them and waited for Selena to answer. "Selena?" He called her again. "Hoy, Selena. Kinakausap ka n
Selena left the cafe as soon as her shift ended. Usually, she would take overtime for extra pay, but not that day. She needed to see Xander and talk to him immediately. They would be seeing each other at the students' committee meeting later, for sure, but she couldn't wait. She had to tell him as soon as possible that next Friday was set for her date with Axis. She looked for him all over the campus. She went to the basketball court, the students' committee room, 3A's classroom, and even at the infirmary but there was no sign of him. There is one last place she hasn’t checked, the rooftop. She was about to go upstairs when someone suddenly called her. "Selena? Anong ginagawa mo d'yan?" She turned her head and found Sharmaine. "Ikaw pala. Kasi meron lang sana akong kakausaping tao." She answered.
