Sandra’s eyes were wide, the shards of the plate glittering at her bare feet like tiny blades. For a moment, she stood frozen, her lips parting as if to speak—then her knees buckled.

“ Sandra!” Florence cried out.

The sound of her body hitting the tiled floor snapped everyone into motion. Felix lunged forward first, nearly tripping over the coffee table, while Cecilia’s phone clattered to the ground. Alex and Obasi reached her together, easing her limp form onto the rug.

“Clear the way!” Obasi barked, his voice commanding but edged with alarm.

They carried her out of the house quickly, Obasi’s men falling in step like shadows. The front gate swung open to the street beyond, the evening air thick and hot, and within minutes they were in Felix’s SUV, tires squealing against the asphalt as they sped toward the hospital.

Cecilia sat in the back beside Sandra, one hand resting lightly on sandra’s wrist, checking for the faint pulse she could feel. Her phone kept buzzing in her po

Felix slammed the door shut so fast the frame rattled. He turned the key twice, then slid the bolt across for good measure. His breathing was heavy. “Everybody stay here,” he said, voice tight. He moved quickly, shutting every possible entrance. The front windows locked. Back door bolted. Even the small side window near the kitchenhe nailed it with the extra latch. Florence was standing in the middle of the sitting room, one hand gripping the back of a chair like she might fall. “Felix… please… call Detective Obasi and his boys,” she said, her voice trembling. Even under the AC, sweat had gathered on her forehead. Felix pulled out his phone instantly. “Obasi,” he said as soon as the detective picked up. “Come to my house now. Urgent. Bring your men.” Cecilia was pacing, her arms folded tight. Every two minutes she left the sitting room and went to Sandra’s room just to check if she was still asleep, still safe. Each time she came back, her steps were quicker than before. Thi

The next morning, Felix’s phone buzzed against the bedside table, dragging him out of the warm, sleepy haze. The curtains were only half-drawn, letting in a soft wash of sunlight that touched the edge of the bed. Florence’s arm rested loosely over his stomach, her breathing slow and even. He reached for the phone without moving too much, not wanting to wake her. The screen lit up with a familiar name — Ella. He cleared his throat before answering. “Hello, Ella.” “Good morning, sir,” her voice came bright but edged with concern. “How was your night?” “It was fine,” he said, leaning back against the headboard. “How was yours?” “I’m fine, sir… but, um… it’s been over five days since you last came to the office.” She hesitated before continuing. “When I called the first day, you said you’d need three or four days to sort some things out. Sir, it’s been longer.” Felix sighed, rubbing the bridge of his nose. “I know, Ella. See, you’re my PA and I trust you completely. Just… lo

The room was so quiet you could hear the faint hum of the ceiling fan. Obasi’s words still lingered in the air like an unwelcome guest:“There’s a murderer… or an informant… living in this house with you. Right now.”No one dared speak.Florence’s gaze darted between Felix and Cecilia. Felix sat stiffly on the couch, his jaw tight, eyes fixed on the floor as though avoiding the weight of suspicion. Cecilia’s eyes, however, burned scanning everyone in the room, as if her stare alone could rip the truth from them.Obasi took a slow breath, then turned toward the door.“I’ll speak to my men,” he said curtly. The heavy silence trailed him as he stepped outside.⸻Outside the compound, Obasi’s voice was low but sharp as he approached the officers.“Tell me everything you know about that gun. The shots. The van from last night. Don’t leave anything out.”The youngest officer — a man barely in his late twenties — swallowed before speaking.“Sir, we found the gun exactly where the lady, Cecil

The flashlight beam hovered over the object half-buried beneath the flowers. The officer took a cautious step forward, his brows furrowing. He crouched, pushed aside the leaves, and picked it up. A gun. Not just any gun—but a sleek, black handgun, wiped clean, no fingerprints in sight. It was cold, heavy, and freshly oiled. His stomach dropped. “Jesus Christ,” he muttered. Another officer stepped forward. “What is it?” “A gun. Loaded.” The second officer’s face darkened. “Who the hell hid a weapon here?” “We’ll find out,” the first officer said grimly. “Sweep the grounds. Nobody leaves this place until we get answers.” He turned to Cecilia, who stood frozen behind him. “Please go inside. It’s not safe here.” She nodded slowly, heart pounding as she backed away. ⸻ Inside, Florence was just settling into her bed when Cecilia stormed in, breathless. “Mum!” she gasped. “They found a gun. Outside. Under the flowers.” Florence sat up in a flash. “A what?” “A gun, Mum. A real o

The phone slipped from Alex’s hand before the call could even end properly. His face paled as if the very blood had been drained from it. The voice echoed in his head like a thunderclap “We will tell the police all you’ve been plotting…” He sank into the edge of his bed, his breath coming out in short, uneven bursts. His heart pounded so loudly, it drowned out every other sound around him. The walls felt like they were closing in, inch by inch. His secret was no longer safe. And worse—it was alive. Breathing. Moving. A soft knock came on the door. His entire body tensed. “Alex?” Felix’s voice filtered in, gentle but firm. “Son… are you okay?” He swallowed the lump in his throat and scrambled to his feet. “Yes… I’m fine.” The door creaked open before he could protest. Felix stepped in, scanning his son’s face. His brows furrowed instantly. “You’re sweating. You look like you’ve seen a ghost. What’s going on?” Alex quickly turned away. “Nothing, Dad. I just had a bad dream. That’
