As soon as Jessica stepped out of the room, a thick silence settled over the dining room, but it was quickly broken by Ethan's father.

"That secretary…isn't she the one with you on that vacation?" He asked in a deep but stern voice.

Vivian sighed loudly. "I knew there was something off about her. The moment she stepped in, I had a feeling."

"She's just my secretary." Ethan leaned back in his seat and explained for the umpteenth time. "The vacation wasn't a vacation. I had a work meeting there so I took her with me mainly because she is my secretary. It's really not that complicated."

From the other end of the table, Brielle let out a quiet humorous snort, shaking her head slightly. His lying skills were impressive…too impressive.

Standing from her chair, she dusted invisible crumbs from her dress and turned to Ethan's parents. "We should be on our way now. It's quite late." She said with a sad smile.
