“Whats the matter Gabe? You’ve been moody all evening. Was it something I said or did?” There was concern in Arabella’s voice.

Gabriel glanced up from his venison stew. At first, Arabella’s words did not make sense. He shook his head to clear the webs growing there. “No, nothing, there’s nothing wrong. I was just thinking of the hunting I need to do. The food stock is getting low; I did not plan for anyone else to feed.”

Arabella did not believe Gabriel but she let the subject drop. If Gabriel was angry or upset about anything, it was none of her business. After all, she was just a visitor here until spring turned to summer. The way Gabriel explained it was ‘The spring causes the snow to melt at a fair rate of speed, this causes the streams to swell and overflow their banks. We have to wait until the start of summer, when the melting has reached its end, before walking to a place down below where we could contact someone to come for you.”
