Chapter 22

I didn't say anything and silently watched Adrian and the others chitchat. They weren't paying much attention to me at first, but Adrian suddenly turned to me and smiled.

"I'm still waiting for an answer, you know," he commented. His eyes trailed my body, from my head to my toes. I felt a shiver down my spine. Something about the way he looked at me didn't feel right.

I feigned ignorance. "What answer?"

"I asked your hand for marriage, Lindsey. You still haven't given me an answer yet." Adrian took my hand in his. "I know you like me, Lindsey."

"How would you know that?" I raised an eyebrow. Adrian sounded way too confident in himself. Didn't he think I could ever reject him?

"Betty told me all about your crush on me."

I snapped my head toward Betty, who was now watching us. "You told him that, did you? I didn't know you and Adrian were so close!"

"We aren't close! And don't act like you don't know what he is talking about, Lindsey," Betty smirked.
