Chapter 98

"I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to, I don't even remember doing it, are they hurt? wait you said three other Rogues?" "that is correct" "but I am not a Rogue" "you're not?" "no of course not I'm a Gamma's daughter" interesting "but you smell like a rogue, I suppose because you've been away from your pack for so long it changed your scent" she sniffs herself.

"Gods I smell terrible" Astrid comes over to us "she's being truthful King Tyler" I nod "thank you Astrid you can go" she bows and leaves "I want to try something, can you talk to your wolf?" I can see that she's trying "no, is she dead?" she asks with watering eyes  "what's her name?" "Emma" "Cory, try calling her and ask her to shift so you can see her"

He walked closer to the bar and leaned "Emma, come here, I'd like to meet you please" her eyes change color and she shifts back into her wolf but there is no recognition in it's eyes, it growls at Cory "how odd, she doesn't seem to recognize you, try calling her again" "Emma, it's me I'm your mate"

The wolf slowly comes over to Cory sniffing and once it catches his scent properly begins to wag it's tail then coughs up and brings up a lump of what seems to be a blood clot "what the hell?! that thing is moving Ty" Cory grabs a glove and picks it up and drops it into a container and cover it then Emma collapses and shifts back into her human form.

"Take her Cory, bring her to the healers, let them treat her and clean her up but do not leave her alone, we don't know what state she'd be in when she comes to, having you near would keep her grounded is that understood?" "yes, thank you" he quickly unlocks the door and scoops her up and runs out of the dungeon with his mate.

I pick up the container with the blob of Gods knows what and look at it, I need to get it to the lab and have it tested, I begin to make my way out of the dungeon when a thought hits me, I've never seen Carson shift after he got that thing out of him and just the fact that he can resist Astrid so easily, maybe he has one of these things inside him too!

I run for it "has anyone seen Carson?" I ask as I pass guards and others on my way "uh, I think I saw him earlier but he was headed to his room sire" "thank you"

I do a bit of a jog walk while trying not to look alarming because naturally if others see their King seemingly in a rush they would notice and think something is wrong, I mean there could very well be something wrong but let's not go there.

*knock knock knock knock knock knock" "coming! coming!" he swings the door open "ye-, my King?" I push my way in "I need to have a word with you Carson, I want to ask you something and please be honest with me" "of course" "can you communicate with your wolf?" he swallows "no my King" "why didn't you say anything Carson?"

"Because I just chalked it up to my wolf going dormant or dying since whatever the hell happened to me happened" he says exasperated and raising his hand in the air "but why do you ask?" "come with me!" I would be dangerous to ask him to shift here with Astrid, the room is too small and I don't know how his wolf would react.

'Astrid, meet me in the training gym ASAP' 'on my way' we get there and she's already there, she smiles looking past me at Carson who is as impassive as before "may I ask why we're here my King" "well, because Cory met his mate today" "that's great" "yes it is but she was just like you, unable to connect with her wolf until Cory called out to her and she shifted and once she recognized him she brought this up" I hold the container to show them "what the hell is that and why is it moving" Astrid wretches holding her mouth "I have no idea as yet but I think you may have one too"

"But I feel fine though" "and she looked fine too" "did she also throw up the mess?" "she did except hers burned, it seems acidic almost, so we couldn't collect a sample of it, please Carson let's give it a try, see if Astrid can call out to her mate and get you to shift"

She steps closer to him "don't you want your wolf back? don't you miss him, miss shifting? please tell me his name" 

He sighs after a few, "his name is Zain" "Zain" she repeats lovingly "a beautiful name"

"Zain, this is Astrid, I'm your mate and I need you to shift if you can hear me"
