Chapter 99

Carson trembles then stumbles forward "that's it Zain, please answer the call of your mate, I'm here and I want you Zain, please come out so I can meet you"

"AGGHHHHHH!" Carson screams out and drops to the floor, his bones begins to stretch, break and reform, his nails extend and after a few more pained screams and groans Zain emerges, he moves from a lying position and stands but wobbles a bit, he shakes his head as though confused and trying to focus.

Then he looks around and sniffs as though trying to figure out where he is then his eyes land on us and once again there is no recognition and he growls and raises his hackles "easy Zain, it's me your mate Astrid" she steps closer to him and he growls then snaps at her but she doesn't back away.

"Smell me Zain, I'm your mate" he stops growling and sniffs her extended hand then licks it before wagging his tail and yipping happily then he begins rubbing himself on her, masking her in his scent.

He then stops and starts heaving before he too brings up one of the things then collapses, I quickly scoop it up and Astrid runs over to him and cradles his head as he lays unconscious after taking his human form once again "what happened to him?" " I don't know, the same thing happened to Cory’s mate, let's get him to the medical wing quickly" I lift him to my back and take the container, passing it to Astrid, we jog over to the medical wing with him on my back still unconscious.

“Hey, we need some help here” “what happened to him?” “the same thing that happened to the she wolf Cory brought earlier, he did bring her right?!” “yes, yes my King he brought her, they are up on the VIP floor” “okay well this guy is Astrids mate so he gets the same treatment so take him up and look after him as well”

I lay him on the stretcher bed and they wheel him away, Astrid passes me the container and follows after them.

I divert to the research lab, pushing the door open “good night my King” “hello, is Dr. Good in?” “yes sir, she’s in her private lab” “thank you, I know the way no need to guide me” “yes my King”

I make my way through the lab and back to her office, I barely manage to hear after I push the back door one of the researchers whispering or thought she was whispering to another “I told you, there’s something going on between them, they’d be cute together” she giggled ‘tell that she wolf we have a mate!’ I ignore hunter and carry on my way ‘why didn’t you tell her?! They will think we are interested in the doctor’ ‘are we interested in dr. Good?’ ‘of course not!’ ‘then that’s all that matters’

‘I do not want anyone to think we’re interested in anyone other than our mate!’ ‘relax will you, why are you getting so riled up, it never bothered you this much before’

‘Well now we know for sure we have a mate and who she is and she’s right here in the castle! What if someone were to tell her about us and another she wolf?!’ I snort ‘she wouldn’t, she doesn’t know she’s our mate yet’

He quiets down and settles in my mind “Alpha? What brings you by so late?” I raise my hand and show her the container “a new specimen to examine as it turns out” her eyes light up “where’d you get it?!” she grabs the container and looks up at it from underneath “is it alive?”

“So it would seem” “wow, this is incredible, it looks like a heart, a small heart and slightly deformed but a heart” my eyes widen “shit” I was about to make a run for it “wait! What's happening?” “uhm Cory’s mate and Carson threw those up then fell unconscious, well their wolves did”

“Don’t go yet, hang on let me check something” she rushes over to the microscope or whatever it’s call and takes a small scalpel and cut a piece of the thing and put it under the scope, then drops some liquid onto it “oh my gosh, come take a look” I go over and she moves away so I can see.

“What’s happening?” “It’s copying the bacteria and taking it’s form, so it’s more than likely they were given the specimen and it copied their heart, it seems to work really slowly” “so what happened to their real heart?” she looks into the scope once again, then back up at me with a grave look on her face “it’s eating the original bacteria”

I don’t waste another minute and run out of the room and she follows me “what do we do?!” “well if push comes to shove then we’d have to put them back” “how the hell could we do that Franny?!” “it could be the only way to save their lives Alpha” “but those things kept them from their wolves and limited their mate bonds, you understand what that means for them right? For their mates as well”
