(Kathryn's POV)

After breakfast, Tyler and I went for a drive. He wanted to show me the places that he owned in town. We stopped in and he introduced me to people that worked there. Everyone seemed nice, but not sure if it was genuine or just fear from making their Alpha upset. By the end of each visit I felt more comfortable that they actually liked me.

I enjoyed the tour that he gave me. There were nice people and no visions, I couldn’t ask for anything more. Though there was a feeling as we walked from store to store that we were being watched. I tried my best to shake it off but I couldn’t.

He took a hold of my hand, “Are you happy?”

I smiled and laid my head on his shoulder, “Very much so.” We walked toward the cafe. I asked him, “Do you ever get the feeling that you are being watched?” He immediately stopped walking and started to look around.

“How long have you had this feeling?” He pulled me close to him as he led me back to the car.

“Uhm, since we left the first store, I think,” I answered. By his reaction I was starting to feel nervous.

Once we reached the car, two other cars pulled up, Micah and four other men got out of the cars. They started to walk around as if they were searching for someone. We were at a small mall, how were they going to find anyone out of the ordinary.

After ten minutes Micah came back and walked over to Tyler’s side of the car. “Alpha, we checked out the security video and found that the only one that might have been following you is Glenda. She was at the last two stores that the two of you have been at.”

Tyler growled and then ran his fingers through his hair. He then went silent and his eyes glazed over. He mentioned that he could talk to everyone in his pack. I wondered if he was trying to contact Glenda.

He growled again, “She is not responding to me,” he said to Micah. Let your warriors know I want to talk with Glenda, find her and bring her to me.” Micah saluted and walked away. He then turned to look at me. “Kate, about Glenda…”

“I bet she is upset about the marking,” I commented.

“Glenda always wanted to be my mate. I did go out with her, once. I thought she was too clingy and a little crazy. I was never interested in her. We didn’t even sleep with each other. But ever since that night, she got it in her head that I was going to choose her to mate with,” Tyler did his best to explain.

“Is she dangerous?” I asked.

“If she knows better, she will back off,” he growled, then cleared his throat. “I am not used to being ignored when I contact them through a mindlink. “ He smiled and then changed the subject, “Did you still want to go to the cafe and have a coffee? I hear they have a caramel latte flavor.”

I thought for a moment, a latte did sound good. I looked at my watch. “A coffee does sound good, but we were going for a run before training.”

He started the car, “We can have coffee later, let's go home and go for a run.” He pulled out of the parking lot and headed home.

Tyler and I changed our clothes and headed out for a run. He decided to run in his wolf form, he said that his wolf side wanted to have some time with me on his own. It was hard to wrap my mind around that Tyler was two separate beings. He told me that the wolf would not harm me in any way and if there were any problems he would protect me. I was fine with him changing his form, but I have to get used to him stripping off his clothes outside in front of everyone.

He changed form with such ease, within seconds he was standing in front of me in this midnight black extra large wolf form, he was almost as big as me. He leaned over his head and rubbed against my hand. Without knowing it I started to pet his fur. It was softer than I expected.

Camerin cleared his throat, “Ty wanted me to tell you that you will be running over by the lake. Part of it is on our property. He wants to show you the waterfall. Also, if you want to talk with him you can just talk, he will understand. He will do his best to answer.” I nodded. “Also, I understand that you have a nickname for his wolf, but his real name is Goliath.”

“Thank you, Camerin,” It was nice to know the wolf’s real name.

“Have a good run, Luna,” he said and then walked away.

After Camerin left, Goliath started to circle me and then he pushed me toward the trail. I giggled, “Alright, Goliath, let’s go for the run.” I took off running, “Try to keep up!” I yelled with a giggle. He howled and ran after me.

It didn’t take long for Goliath to catch up to me, even when I was sprinting my hardest to get away from him. Finally I settled into a comfortable run and he stayed by my side the whole time. He made sure I stayed on course to the lake by nudging me in the direction I needed to go. Sometimes he would cause me to misstep, but thankfully I never feel down.

We ran for about thirty minutes, the last five we were on the banks of the lake. I could see the waterfall from a distance. It was smaller than I thought it would be, but beautiful nonetheless. He led me over to a clearing that had some tables and chairs so people could have a picnic by the water if they wanted. I took a break and sat down on the chair next to a table. He jumped on the table and stretched out, laying his head next to me.

“That was a good run,” I commented. Goliath licked me on the face. It made me laugh. “Can you really understand what I am saying?” I asked and he tilted his head. “Does that mean yes?” He barked. “Alright, I will take it as a yes.” I started to pet him on the head as I watched the waterfall flowing over the cliff. “It is peaceful here. More people should be able to see it. I mean the whole lake. “ He whimpered. “I know, most of the lake is on my land. But maybe we could think of something so people could enjoy it.” Goliath licked me again and got up and jumped in the lake.

He splashed around and enjoyed the water. I couldn’t help but smile. This big scary wolf was acting like a puppy. He came out of the lake and shook off the water. He then walked over to me and took a piece of my shirt and started to pull me toward the lake. I realized he was trying to get me into the water.

“I’m not going swimming,” he started to pull again. “Forget it, not this time. I have some sparring to do and I don’t want to tire myself out with a swim.” He stopped pulling and started to push me back down the trail. He was right, it was time to head back to the packhouse. “I get it, time to run back. But let’s have a slower pace so we can spend more time together.” He agreed with a howl.

Off we went. Slower, but still a good pace. It was wonderful to have a trip to the lake that didn’t have anything happen that caused me to have my life at risk. Again he would nip at my feet to get me to go down the correct trails. I was going to have a talk with him about a better way to get me to turn left that didn’t cause me to be bit or tripped.

Once we got back to the packhouse, Goliath switched back to Tyler, once again he was naked and casually walked over to his car, where he placed his clothes earlier. He started to get dressed.

“Did you enjoy your time with Goliath?” Tyler asked.

I had my back to him while he got dressed. “Yes, it was fun. He was bigger than I thought he would be. He will have to work on how he gives directions, I think he just liked biting my ankles.”

I felt two hands on my shoulders, it made me jump. “You don’t have to look away when I get dressed or undressed. You have seen me naked before and as I remember, you seemed to enjoy it.”

“I am not used to people just stripping off their clothes or changing from a human to wolf and back again. I have to get used to all the nakedness,” I tried to explain.

“You better get used to it, we have a group run coming up this weekend,” he laughed. I just stared at him. “Don’t worry, I am sure we can find something for you to do during the run. I am sure Celia would love it if you would watch the twins so she could join the run,” he said as he wrapped his arms around my waist.

“I would love to watch the twins,” I smiled.

“Good, now are you sure you are up to sparring today? I have a feeling that this might be a little tougher than yesterday. The warriors are a little concerned that you are human and now my mate, this would cause me to be weak. You need to show them that you are more than capable of taking care of yourself.”

“Will it be enough?” I asked him. “What will happen if they still think you are weak after I take care of a couple of your warriors?”

“If they still think our mating has made me weak, someone will challenge me for control of the pack. I will have to fight them,” he replied. Then he smiled, “Don’t worry, no one can beat me in a fight, and you don’t make me weak, on the contrary, you make me feel stronger than I have ever been.” He took me by the hand and started to walk into the packhouse. “Let’s get ready for today’s training.”

“I am not going to hold back this time,” I said under my breath.

“You better not. I can’t wait to see what you can do.”

53 (Kathryn’s POV) I heard him before I saw him heavy boots on the old wooden floors, the faint creak of the front door shutting behind him. Cali lifted her head from my lap, ears perked like she could sense his energy better than I could. I wished I could curl up and disappear into her fur. The packhouse was quiet. Too quiet. Everyone had gone to handle something, fight something, protect something. And me? I sat here like a porcelain doll tucked safely away in a glass cabinet while the world burned. I didn’t know how to look at him. Not after tonight. Not after seeing what his world really was. He stepped into the dayroom. He looked… tired. Older somehow. Blood scrubbed mostly clean, but not all of it. I wondered if it was his. If it was someone else’s. If he even cared anymore. “Hey,” he said softly, like he didn’t want to scare me. I didn’t answer. I just watched him. His shoulders dropped a fraction that little tell he hated giving away, like he’d been bracing for a punch

52 (Kathryn’s POV) This night was more than I could handle. I have entered into Tyler’s world without knowing what it really was like. This world is full of monsters and I am in love with the most powerful one. I sit in this truck and am afraid to talk to him. He isn’t done, a war had just begun and he had prisoners, who knows what he was going to do with them. I glanced at him. Staring at his fresh scars and the dried blood on him. Why is he here with me and not with his men? Shouldn’t he be there? Was I really that important to him? Would he give up his world for me? Could I even ask him to? My mind was filled with so many questions. But I wondered why I couldn’t ask him. The truck started to slow down as we reached my home. The fire department was still there, spotlights all over the place. Smoke still poured out of the kitchen window, I expected the house to be burnt to the ground with nothing left but a pile of ash. A tall muscular man walked over to us, “Evening Alpha, Lu

51 (Tyler’s POV) I shifted back at the edge of the clearing behind the packhouse, forcing my breathing to steady. My fur was matted with blood, not all mine, but it didn’t matter. I had to look human again, look like her mate, not the monster who’d just torn Jaxson’s wolves apart with his teeth. I pulled on the spare pair of sweats we kept in the emergency stash outside the back porch. They stuck to the cuts along my ribs, but I ignored it. The packhouse lights glowed warm and steady, a lie against the chaos beyond these walls. When I stepped inside, I found Kate in the dayroom where I’d left her. She was pacing, arms wrapped tight around herself, Micah hovering nearby trying to calm her down. The moment Kate saw me, she stopped cold. Her eyes flicked over me, the blood, the bruises and her breath stopped. “Out,” I said to Micah. He hesitated, but one look at my face and he slipped past me without a word, pulling the double doors closed behind him. Kate didn’t move. Neither did

50 (Tyler’s POV) The run was going smoothly, no trouble, no mind-links buzzing in my head, just me, my thoughts, and the wind in my fur. Well, and the pup is still glued to my heels. I glanced back. He hadn’t given up once, sticking to my flank like a shadow. He was faster than I’d expected from someone who’d only shifted for the first time a few months ago. I’d have to keep an eye on him. We made the turn at the waterfall, the mist cool on my fur as I mind-linked Camerin. The second group is up, get them ready, I told him. You’re going to love the lake tonight. The moon’s almost high enough to fill its reflection. It’s beautiful. He gave me the report on the patrols. It made my heart sink a little. so few warriors to cover so much ground but everything was still quiet. Too quiet. The second run started, and the fifteen-minute window began. Only ten warriors were left to guard the packhouse. Jaxson’s death threat was never for me, I’d survived too many to count, but Kate was diff

49 (Camerin’s POV) I followed Tyler outside to greet the pack members waiting for the first run. I was impressed by how effortlessly the Alpha handled the crowd laughing, talking, greeting everyone like nothing was wrong. You’d never know he was worried about an attack or a kidnapping. He made sure everyone was focused on the run and ready to have a good time. When the time came, he gave the order to shift. Roughly 250 wolves cheered and began stripping off their clothes so they wouldn’t ruin them during the change. Then, all at once, the air was filled with the sound of bones shifting and fur sprouting. The security team stayed close, ready for any trouble. A crowd this big was bound to have a few scuffles as everyone fought for the best spot. Alpha Tyler didn’t give them time to settle. He threw back his head and let out a powerful howl before charging toward the mountains. The wolves surged after him eager, competitive but no one dared pass the Alpha. He set the pace. “I’ll k

48 (Tyler’s POV) I threw my drink against the wall and it barely missed Camerin’s head. Why would wolves be attacking Scott? Was Jaxson trying to capture him, use him as leverage to force a claim on the land between our packs? I grabbed my phone, ready to call Jaxson and demand he back off Kate’s friend but I froze before I could dial. I couldn’t risk tipping him off about Kate’s visions. If they got hold of Scott, they could torture that information out of him. I mind-linked the warriors tailing Scott, demanding an update. They responded immediately: they’d found his truck heading west on the highway toward Coulterville. So far, no sign anyone was following him; the warriors were keeping their distance so they wouldn’t spook him. I turned back to Camerin, frustration eating at me. “Where’s Kate? They should be here by now.” I started pacing. “Calm down, the run starts in fifteen minutes,” Camerin said evenly. “I’ll calm down when she’s here under our protection!” I snapped. Jus
