Chapter 4

Since Edmund was a child, he never got the chance to act like a prince or enjoy royal treatment. The fact that he was killed when an infant circulated throughout the whole continent played a big role in the whole drama.

The people who tried to assassinate him must be still living in an illusion, thinking they killed Lycan Prince. But it's good as long as extra drama doesn't come to Edmund.

Now, at the age of 24, Edmund is living in a faraway place from the palace, hiding his identity, and working for the Lycan king to capture the man who is involved in the treason act.

He must catch that person in one month. It's the deadline. After a month, the King is going to announce to the world that his son, the royal prince, is alive and ready to accept Luna, the next queen on the throne.

“My lord, that woman seems suspicious. It's going to be trouble if she is a spy sent by Prince Ezra,” said Ashley, who is Edmund's subordinate and the bodyguard assigned to protect him.

Prince Ezra, the crown prince, is eying after the throne and has tried his best till now to get rid of the current king. Edmund can't say that Prince Ezra hasn't caught up to the fact that the Lycan prince is alive.

He has been trying to find out about the Lycan prince for the last four years but has always failed miserably. But in the last two months, the pattern has changed, as if he knows who the prince is.

“It's just a matter of time before Prince Ezra finds out about me. There will be a bouquet held in the palace one month later. The King will announce to the world about my existence,” said Edmund, still tapping his fingers on the table.

“My lord, what about the woman you brought back from the trip? Are you going to let her slip away?” Asked Ashley.

“For now, we just have to watch over her. Let's see when she shows her tail,” he smirked.

Meanwhile, in the guest room.

A woman in her forties arrived in the room. Amelia met her eyes for a moment before removing her gaze from her and looking somewhere else.

The woman looks kind of cold, with no expressions on her face, and she is kind of giving off that scary vibe.

It's Rose, the subhead maid of the East Wind mansion. After hearing from her lord about the woman he rescued, she immediately came to see her.

“Lord Edmund said you are going to work at East Wind Mansion from today onwards. This is the uniform you must wear while working. Are you sure you can start working today?” Rose asked with an expressionless face.

Amelia felt the burden in her heart lifting when Rose spoke to her. Rose is not what Amelia thought she would be. Just her face gives her away.

“I am all okay. I can start from today onward,” Amelia replied and took the clothes from Rose.

The clothes were new, not handed down or torn in any way, not to mention they were clean. Looking at the new clothes, she caresses the fabric slightly. It was the first time she was given clothes that were not hand-me-down.

Back in her village, all the villagers would wear new clothes. But when it comes to Amelia, she never saw new clothes in her whole life. She was always given what her cousin would throw away and what she didn't want. Her parents always supported her cousin Arsha while she was all alone there.

Rose saw the upset look on her face. “What happened? You didn't like the clothes? Sadly, everyone wears these clothes when working. We don't have any choices,” said Rose, not trying to make her sad but also not trying to please her.

Amelia shook her head vigorously and pulled out the best smile she could. “No! I like the clothes. I was just reminded of the past when I was always given old clothes. It's my first time receiving new clothes.”

Rose let out a heavy sigh.

“Let's stop wasting each other's time then. We have too much work on our hands today. Let's get you introduced to all the chores.” Said Rose.

Rose gave her a tour of the whole mansion and introduced her to the chores she was going to do from now on. Since she is new, Rose assigned her to do external work like cleaning the yard, doing laundry, and watering the plants daily.

Amelia understood everything perfectly and started working immediately. It's her first time working at someone else's residence. Till now, she was only responsible for her parent's house.

Even after working for years, she got zero pennies from them. No gratitude was shown to her.

She cleaned the whole yard, but no matter how much she cleaned, the leaves kept falling into the cleaned places. Somehow, she finished the first task.

She needed to pull out water from the deep well with the help of a deep bucket to water the plants. It was energy-draining to pull out water any time, and then watering the plants is surely too big of a task for her.

After completing two tasks, she was completely drained. But the third task was still there for her.

Amelia slapped her cheeks many times to get rid of her laziness and tiredness. “Let's work hard together, Amelia. You can do it!” She encouraged herself.

A river flowed at some distance behind the mansion, an unlimited water source for everyone. Amelia collected all the laundry and went to the river with all the applications to wash the clothes.

And when she was done with all the work, she realized that it was already evening. She was so motivated today that she didn't eat anything at lunchtime. And now her stomach was making weird noises, warning her to eat something.

Still, there are two hours left before dinner time. In the meantime, Rose assigned her to cut the ingredients for the dinner. Amelia nodded and got herself to work.

Her workplace surely is a heavenly place, except for some maids who are giving her weird and hateful stares. The rumor about her being carried here by their lord spread like wildfire in the whole mansion, which may be the reason why everyone kept sneaking glances at her.

All the women working here in the mansion are Omega wolves. They belong to the lower ranks with hard conditions. But despite that, their pheromones were concealed perfectly.

But even if they concealed their pheromones, Amelia could still smell them. Maybe it was just her strong sense of smell that gave them away. And this makes Amelia the only beta wolf in the whole quarter.

Omega always goes into heat once a month, and they need to mate with someone during that time. Having a lover always comes in handy. But those who don't have a mate take medicine to suppress their desire.

So in that sense, Amelia was far better off being a Beta woman.

After the owner of the house had his dinner, all the servants had their fill. It was already late in the night when they were done with all the chores. And finally, it was time to rest for the night.

All the servants had servants' quarters just beneath the main mansion, underground. It was separated in two. One for female servants and another one for male servants. Neither men nor women were allowed to trespass into each other's territory, so it was safe.

Rose took her to the servant's quarter, where she will stay from now on. It turned out to be a cohabitation with many people in one room. It was a big room with many beds. Everyone had their beds and shelves to store their stuff.

“This one bed is yours. Make yourself at home and rest for the day. Don't go anywhere, okay?” Said Rose.

“Roger that...”

Rose left her in front of the female servants alone after explaining everything properly. All this time, she was standing at the door, but the moment she stepped inside and walked to her bed, everyone's gaze stopped on her.

But unlike what she thought about them hating her, all of them gather around her, intimidating her. She thought she was going to get beaten by them, but it was wrong of her to think that way.

“What's your name?” They asked.

“Amelia, I am Amelia,” Amelia answered.

Some of them started sniffing her, too close to her ears and neck.

“There's no pheromone smell on you. How did you conceal your smell so perfectly? I can't even tell you are one of us,” one of them asked.

“I don't have any pheromones. I am a beta wolf,” Amelia replied.

She stunned and shocked everyone. They all looked at each other. “Do you have a lover?” They asked curiously.

“I don't have a lover,” Amelia replied.

She can't smell any suspicion in them. All they were doing was asking her stupid questions. But maybe this was their way to get to know her.

“That day, I saw our Lord carrying you in the mansion in his arms. How did you get injured?”
