Chapter 5

Unlike what she thought about them all, it turned out they were all just curious about her. Their eyes, full of stars, were waiting for an answer and demanding it from her. All of them gathered around her as if she was their queen bee, and they were her subjects.

Their eyes glisten when Amelia's lips just move slightly. They were all expecting to hear some contagious gossip.

“I crashed into the Lord's carriage when climbing down the mountain and hurt my head badly. Maybe the henchman saw me as a gluttonous person with too much weight. That's why the Lord must have carried me to the mansion himself,” said Amelia.

East Wind Mansion is her workplace now. Any mistake from her might result in her dismissal from here. She can't risk anything. She doesn't know why Edmund had to carry her in by himself when so many eyes were on him, but she is grateful to him for helping her. That's why she can't have others misunderstand her relationship with him.

They only have a simple relationship. Employer and employee, nothing more, nothing less.

They all showed disappointment at first and cheered themselves.

“You all are omega wolves. How do you keep your pheromones in control? As far as I know, the Lord has strong pheromones, ones that a lower-ranking wolf omega won't be able to resist in normal situations. So how do you do it?” Amelia asked them directly.

The first time she saw Edmund this morning in her room, she felt a strong aura surrounding his body. This means he is someone of high rank, the one whose pheromones are supposed to be strong and uncontrollable for the Omega wolves around him of that lower class. So how can this many omega women survive in this place full of strong pheromones?

She noticed it when their lord Edmund was having dinner in the dining room. All the servants were acting normal as if he was just like them, someone who has weak pheromones. How?

“Our Lord can control his pheromones. If you ask us, we never have any urge to pounce on him or have any sexual desires toward him. Strangely, we feel at ease when the Lord is around, and it's easy and comfortable this way. But sometimes, his presence is too strong. Nevertheless, we are comfortable showing our pheromones but scared of his presence at the same time.” Said the ladies.

No one in the mansion talks ill about Edmund, given how nice he is to his people. If there's anything, it's the respect and loyalty they feel towards him.

It was enough conversation for today. After getting to know each other's names and having talked for half an hour, all of them stopped for the day. They went to sleep after laying on the bed.

And before even knowing it, it was yet another day. The same routine continues. Doing laundry, watering the plants, sweeping the yard, and helping in the kitchen at the end of the day. Days started to go by at the speed of the wind. Her days continued to pass by like hours, and her work schedule remained the same.

And before she could even realize it, it was almost a month since she came here. Since Edmund has gone out for some business, servants were given free days, no work, and then to do whatever they wanted.

The day started with good luck. Since there are no chores to do in the mansion, everyone made their plans. Some decided to go out and watch a play, and some decided to go on dates with their mate. Some decided to remain in the house. And Amelia didn't wish for anything but to have a good rest at home.

“What are your plans for today?” Lily asked.

Lily is the youngest servant of the house and also the one who was just hired to work in the mansion two months ago. She is sweet, silly, and innocent. Whenever Amelia looks at her, she is always reminded of her younger sister, who died ten years ago.

If her sister was alive, she would have been the same age as Lily. Whenever Amelia thinks of her younger sister, her heart always shatters into a million pieces.

The memory of that time when she found her sister's motionless body in the forest still lingers in her mind. And the trauma still hunts her. Maria, her younger sister, didn't die naturally. She was killed. No, she was raped by dozens of people before being killed.

When she found out what happened to Maria, her heart fell into a rage, and she cried thousands and millions of times. If only she can meet those people who did her sister the worst, she promises she will kill them.

She was just six years old, with no knowledge of what was going on, but something terrible happened to her.

But what did her parents do? They tried to bury the whole thing. Just so they could save their family's reputation. They let the bad guys escape. No punishment was served.

Now that she thinks about it, it was worse. Her parents were worse.

“Sis! Sis, I asked, What are your plans for today,” Lily shook Amelia's shoulder as she asked in an innocent tone.

Lily brought her back to reality. Amelia stared at the ground for a second. “I am going to rest at home. I don't have any places to visit,” said Amelia.

Lily hugged Amelia. “Sis! You look depressed for some reason. Are you okay? And... it's okay if you have no place to visit. You can always count on me. I have many places in mind that you will find fascinating,” said Lily in an innocent pure tone.

Amelia smiled. It was so sweet of this little girl. She has a date today, yet she is worried about Amelia. She is such a silly person.

“I am fine! Don't worry about me. Instead, tell me about your lover. You said you have a date today. Where are you planning to go?” Amelia asked, shifting the topic back to Lily.

Glistening stars could be seen in Lily's eyes when Amelia mentioned her dating partner. Unlike some families where parents wait for the daughter to reach the age of eighteen, Most of the parents who belong to the lower rank marry their daughters to anyone as long as they can get a good price.

Lily's case is the same. She was sent here by her family to earn extra money to raise the whole family. And she is also expected to marry into a family that is not poor but belongs to the middle class.

“Sis, I am meeting him at the nearest village. An event is going on in the nearest village. He is coming there to meet me. He said he is wearing green clothes and a red rose hanging on his shirt,” said Lily.

Amelia shook her head once and then looked at her with confusion written all over her face. “Are you meeting him for the first time?” Amelia asked.

Lily simply nodded in response.

“Baby girl, be careful! I don't know who you are meeting and who he is. But if you feel uncomfortable or in danger when with him, you must escape, alright?” Amelia warned her and suggested at the same time.

Amelia is speaking about her experience. However, Lily's parents are selfish enough to push her into a deep hole. She is still a kid, not even an adult. Who knows with whom they are setting her up?

“I will. You have worked hard all these days. You should rest a lot and not care about others for today. Have a great day. I have to leave now.” Lily said, kissing her on the cheek and running away.

There's no one in the mansion now. Only guards are available since they have a job to protect the mansion from the outside. Amelia kept looking at the bright and clear sky as she sat on the floor in the backyard.

“Days pass by without realizing it. I guess it was four weeks ago when I decided to leave everything behind. I am grateful that Lord Edmund appeared in my life. I guess I have a goal to look forward to from now on,” Amelia mumbled to herself.

Edmund departed three days ago and may return tomorrow. The servants were busy with preparations for the upcoming festival and just finished yesterday.

Amelia curved herself in a ball, entangled her head in between the gaps of her knees, thinking about how her little sister used to look alike and immersed herself in that thought completely.

It's been more than ten years since that accident happened. Her sister left but left the wounds in her heart, which are still fresh. However, she isn't the direct cause of that pain.

“It's been ten years since that happened. I never thought so seriously about it, and this memory never even kept ringing in my head either. So what's happening today? Why can't I shake off this bad feeling?” Amelia mumbled to herself.

That incident—she was very close to forgetting it, but now, all of a sudden, she can't help but keep on thinking about it. Her chest felt all stuffy and weird, and her heart was giving her false alarms. What is this?

“Why are you here all alone?”
