View MoreShe felt uneasy.
In the quiet dark of the night as she waited for the Uber to arrive, her heart thumped in her chest. The tall brunette shivered in her short long sleeved dress. She hugged her arms to her chest, as if to protect herself from the cold. Why did he have to leave his phone with her? Why did he involve her in this mess? She should have cut off all contact with him a long time ago.
As she checked her phone again, she felt the presence of another, staring and watching. She punched in the emergency number, prepared to dial the moment she saw something out of the ordinary.
Shifting from one foot to another, she swallowed hard. As soon as she heard footsteps approaching, she stopped moving. Was it them?
Shaking all over, she began to walk down the street, rummaging through her purse for her keys. On seeing the headlights of an approaching vehicle, she waved her hand hoping it would stop. The vehicle pulled up, tires screeching against the asphalt, much to her relief.
The passenger's door suddenly pulled open. Arms grabbed her from behind, lifting her up and pushing her into the vehicle. Her screams muffled in her attackers' hands and the door slammed shut.
"Be a good girl and you stay alive."
She pressed her mouth close and locked eyes with the man in black, knowing there was no way to escape this. Especially not after seeing his face.

Today was the first time Charlie Brown loved Friday. She signed in later than usual, collapsing into her seat and grinned at the empty desks. For the first time in three years, no paperwork. If this keeps up, she might let her hair down and go clubbing.
Digging into her bag, she picked up a fantasy novel she had purchased the day before and flipped open to the first chapter. She had barely finished the first page when she felt a tap on her shoulder. Placing the book down, she looked up to see her partner, Jake Spencer.
"Nice haircut," she greeted him with a grin.
"Don't make fun of me." Jake's ears turned a bright shade of pink as he ran his hand through his blond buzz cut.
"It looks good on you." She rose out of her seat, reaching to touch his hair. "Honest," she added.
"What are your plans for the weekend?"
Charlie made a gesture of drinking. "Probably wear that cute dress I bought last month too. Would you like to come with me?"
Jake nodded, giving a bright smile that warmed Charlie on the inside. When they heard familiar hurrying steps, they looked up.
"Not to ruin your plans or anything," William said, gesturing behind him. "Harroway wants to see you two. Now."
"No," Charlie whispered, a sense of foreboding filling her. There was only one explanation for Harroway wanting to see them.
Jake groaned aloud. "I knew this wasn't going to last. Come on, let's get this over with."
With great reluctance, she left the department office. Jake tagged along like a shadow, giving a small smile to the agents that walked past.
"Agent Brown, Agent Spencer." Supervisory Special Agent Harroway dropped a large file on the table that took half the room. "We have a murder case on our hands."
"So much for drinking," Jake murmured, bringing a smile to Charlie's lips.
"The crime took place at eight p.m two days ago and it's got Cosa Nostra all over it."
"Oh, not again," Charlie groaned.
Organized crimes never seemed to decrease. Instead, they grew larger in number each day. Despite the risks, they still went on committing crimes while involving in such diabolical crimes giving the squad a non-stop headache.
"Let me know what you and your squad find. Dismissed."
Picking up the file on the table, she followed Jake out of the room. The file felt heavy in her hand as all her plans for a fun weekend poofed into smoke. Resigned, she sighed.
"Let's get this over with."
File crooked in the pit of her arm, Charlie pulled her hair back into a bun. They met up with William and scoured through the file.
"We have here Miss Diane Wilson, twenty-four years old who works as a bartender at a strip club in New York. She was reported missing two weeks ago and found dead in a ditch near Hilliard Bridge, Philadelphia on Wednesday at eight p.m," Jake recited, pulling out the pictures gathered by Evidence Response Team.
Charlie looked through the pictures, noting the evidence in each scene. The corpse laid askew and naked, missing all four limbs. Her curly brunette hair fanned out under her. Her chest was crudely sewn up in one picture and in another, it was cut open and filled with bags of illegal drugs. No matter how many times she saw something like this, she could not stomach how someone could do this to another person.
"How did this kid get involved with the Mafia?" Charlie heard William murmur.
She wondered the same thing as she looked at the picture the murdered victim took a month before. Diane Wilson was quite the pretty lady, and probably had a number of men wanting to take her out.
"What was she doing in Philadelphia?" She tapped the picture of the disfigured corpse.
"Looks like you two have to go to New York to find out," William said, gathering the pictures together.
"Road trip!" Charlie pumped her hands in the air. "Should we get pizza on our way?"
Jake nodded and asked William, "You aren't coming with us?"
"My wife wants me home tonight. You can't argue with the missus."
"That sounds totally made up," Charlie chuckled.
William smirked. "Try getting hit by a chancla. Don't get married, kids."
"You sound too happy to be giving such advice."
"Keep your phone on, please, and with you at all times," Charlie pleaded, knowing how hard it could get to reach him.
"Okay."
Once the preparations were made, Jake and Charlie set down for New York.
As Johnny pulled at the parking of Sin City, he wondered why he couldn’t stop thinking of Eunice and how tragic their love story was. This was one of the first real traumas he had experienced apart from when his mother had left him and somehow he couldn’t bring himself to get over it yet.“You should try therapy.” He thought aloud.“Maybe not, because then your therapist would need a therapist pronto.”He laughed.what would have been different if Eunice had agreed to his conditions?Would they really have worked out or would they be divorced like most couples at this point? He imagined himself with Eunice at a beach, two kids playing in the sand and him relaxing and being content staring at them.Johnny Maddox cringed a little.Maybe that wasn’t the life for him. He wondered if miss Carla had eventually forgotten about the incidence.“Why did I even tell her?” He thought.“Maybe I really wasn’t much of a man.” He thought to himself.Things rapidly got out of his control. He briefl
Johnny looked up at her and replied.“I’m just your man because we be fucking.”Why was Johnny acting so strange today Eunice wondered. Maybe something was wrong with him but why didn’t he just tell her. She him on to him tightly and stroked his hair.He closed his eyes and smiled. She wondered what could be going through his mind.“Johnny, you’re my man because I like hanging out with you, we got mad chemistry.”“Sing to me Eunice, help me clear my head.” One of the best things he loved about Eunice was her amazing voice. He always asked her to sing for him whenever they would meet up in his bedroom. She sang hymes, and sometimes she danced a little to it too.“Ok then, but just one.”“Two, I’m really upset.”“Ok fine.”Johnny was happy that she agreed. Most times, he would have to plead with her for hours before she agreed to sing even one. He asked her to sing Amazing grace. While she sang, his thoughts were clouded with thoughts of her… her voice was soothing just not as much
Maddox Black took the familiar turn and knew that he was getting close to his club. He wondered why his mind was getting flooded with memories of the first woman he had ever loved- the only woman he had ever and most likely would ever love. She was his first love and everything. He smiled sadly“Young love.”He would never forget her.Maybe things would have been different if she had agreed to elope with him. By now they would be married with kids and be the most content man alive. He let his mind wander to the first time he’d suggested they elope.“Let’s run away, together.”Eunice sat up and looked at Johnny, bewildered.“What are you talking about?”Johnny took her hands in his and looked into her big blue beautiful eyes that reminded him of the ocean and he wanted to get lost in it.“I’m tired of playing hide and seek baby, I just want to be with you in a way that is natural away from all these.”Eunice shifted uneasily and moved away from his gaze.“I don't know Johnny, I reall
That was the beginning of Johnny and sister Eunice’s love affair. Most times, they hung out in the vicar’s old yard but , she would sometimes sneak into his house. Johnny found the whole thing very exciting, to him the rush to not get caught and to sustain the secret love affair really kept The adrenaline pumping. He knew what they were doing was very wrong, but anytime he got into her arms, he wanted to be signed up for a life long supply of sister Eunice’s sexy body. For him, it wasn’t just about the sex because he really enjoyed spending time with her.She was very easy to talk to.Once, he asked her why she was a nun when she didn’t like the church or cared enough to obey any of the rules. Sister Eunice’s parents lived met and were born at the church so they were really devoted to the preachings. They thing they were most proud of and held in high esteem was their service to the church such that they gave up their life and lived only for that one purpose. They met and fell i
When Johnny got home, he ran straight to tell Carla about Eunice and it was then he got the shocker. Eunice was a nun and they didn’t get married and had sworn the oath of celibacy so he couldn’t be with her. Johnny felt like he had been a fool trying to come on to a nun. Although it hurt, he knew the best thing to do was to stay away from Eunice. He tried to stay away from the church too but that didn’t last long at all.Eventually he went back to see her to talk things through. He even felt like he might have to make a confession to the father. The one woman he wanted and could not keep out of his head was God’s woman. He got to the church in time for the fellowship and immediately after, he found Eunice and told her that he had something really important to talk to her about. The had to find somewhere hidden and private so that his abomination would not be found out.Eunice took him to the yard at the back of the vicar’s building. It was set well away from the church building
Johnny Black was happy with how the meeting had turned out and he was looking forward to having an amazing chill evening at the bar. Sara kept texting him throughout the day and he had stopped replying when it began to get a little boring. He would have to invite her over for the night so they could finally get thing over with because se he was now thinking that getting her number might have not been the best of ideas. She was becoming a distraction and kept nagging him to meet up.He decided against taking her to his club because he felt he deserved an alone quiet evening before he too her over to his house. He called Bryan to clear out his table at the VIP section.Bryan sounded pleased when he found out that the Black dog would be around for the night.“drinks on you, it’s been a while.”“Bryan, it has only being a few days.”“Few days and a couple hours. It has never happened before. Are your running around with the chick from the office?”“No, I am not.”“She seems like your
