Sophie’s POV

The whispers didn’t stop even after the pack meeting. They remained like smoke after a dying fire, entering into ears and minds when no one was looking. By the time the moon had climbed higher, three wolves had already come to me privately, two young mothers and one of Damon’s strongest warriors, each confessing the same uncomfortable doubts.

“I keep dreaming that choosing this life, choosing love, means the pack will fall,” one of them whispered

Sophie’s POVThe whispers didn’t stop even after the pack meeting. They remained like smoke after a dying fire, entering into ears and minds when no one was looking. By the time the moon had climbed higher, three wolves had already come to me privately, two young mothers and one of Damon’s strongest warriors, each confessing the same uncomfortable doubts.“I keep dreaming that choosing this life, choosing love, means the pack will fall,” one of them whispered with haunted eyes. “What if the Echoes are right?”I held her hands, letting my own Luna energy flow through the touch. “They’re not right. They’re desperate fragments trying to make us forget who we are. Remember the night we stood against the Devourer? Remember how the bond between all of us burned brighter than any prophecy? Hold onto that.”She left slightly steadier, but I felt drained. The garden bench welcomed me again, the same one where Damon and I had planned our stan

Sophie’s POV The word “Echoes” was right there in the night air like a bad omen. It gave me a very bad feeling you know, the kind of feeling that made the wolf inside me want to snap at the shadows, get ready to tear something apart. Damon’s hand tightened on my waist, a quiet reassurance that he had me, that we had each other. But the troubled expression on Marcus's face told me this wasn’t something we could simply growl at and make disappear. This was something that would definitely growl back at us. “Explain,” Damon ordered, waiting for a response. Marcus stepped fully onto the balcony, keeping his voice down so the pack below wouldn’t catch every word. “They’re not physical at first. The old texts the elders dug up say the Echoes are... leftovers. Pieces of the very first gods that shattered during some ancient war no one remembers. When the Convergence cracked reality, it woke them. They don’t attack with claw

Chapter 72 Sophie’s POV Two days later The garden behind the mansion had become our unofficial war room for 'How to Survive Ancient Gods Without Losing Your Sanity.' I sat on the stone bench, holding a cup of tea that had gone cold twenty minutes ago, watching the wind rustle the leaves as they were gossiping about a scandal that had to do with the heavens. Damon paced in front of me, his silver eyes sharp with the kind of frustration that only came from dealing with immortals who had too much time on their hands and not enough hobbies. "The Forgotten sent another scroll this morning," he said, tossing the rolled parchment onto the bench beside me. It unrolled a bit, revealing elegant writing that smelled of old libraries. "They want a formal audience. No baby this time, just us. They say the Convergence left loose ends, and we're the ones holding the thread." I picked up the scroll, and looke

Chapter 71 Sophie’s POV The sacred ridge had become a battlefield of gods and mortals. The sky above opened more wider, silver and black light pouring through like wounds that just wouldn't stop bleeding. The old bloodlines took vantage points around the ancient altar, and what they were doing there wasn't something that anyone was blind to. There were factions here, and each faction had their own purpose. Shadows came out of the chasm behind the altar, turning into creatures faster than we could destroy them. I stood in the center with Damon on one side and Lucas strapped securely to my chest. The family bond glowed between us, but with the pressure that we were getting from the Convergence, I could feel the strain. A lot of things were happening, you know. My kid didn't want the gods to take him and I didn't want him gone from my sight either. Damon was saying something to me. When I paid attenti

Third POV Let's go back to the beginning, before the moon had learned to behave itself and the stars were still arguing about their seating arrangement, the Cosmos decided it was time to throw a party. Not a normal party, mind you, this was the kind of cosmic bash where the invitations were written in pure primordial essence and the dress code was "try not to unravel reality." The Cosmos, feeling particularly full of himself after a long nap that lasted several eternities, decided to create the first gods to help manage the newly formed world. His thought, what could possibly go wrong with creating helpers? The problem started with the guest list. The Cosmos invited the Void, that grumpy, endless neighbor who never brought snacks and always complained about the noise. The Void showed up late, wearing nothing but shadows and a bad attitude, and immediately started eating the first course, which, in this case, were the first sparks of cre

Sophie’s POV The sacred ridge was strangely quiet in the after it was all over. I laid on the broken stone altar, my body feeling like some empty vessel, as if a piece of my soul had been taken right out of me. The Devourer had taken something important, a fragment of my golden essence, and the loss was so loud through the bond like a missing limb. Lucas was still close to me, and his small fingers ever finding their way around my shirt. “Mommy.. hurt?” he said sotto voce. A faint golden-red spark tried to flow from him into me, but it was weak and unstable. I brushed his dark curls back, and forced a tired smile. “Mommy’s okay, baby. Just tired. You were so brave.” Damon knelt beside us, his large hand covering both of ours. I could see that he felt guilty of what has just happened. “Sophie, you shouldn’t have done that. You gave up too much.” I reached up and touched his

Chapter 61 Sophie’s POV The training grounds near the eastern ridge had become our second home over the past three weeks. Sophie’s POVThe tendril wrapped around Lucas like a chain covered with darkness, and it pulled him from my arms even before I could react. Sophie’s POVThe Devourer’s huge form rose from the scary chasm like it was some haunting nightmare. Shadows twisted around it in, and its many eyes fixed on Lucas. Sophie's POV I gripped the strap of my duffel bag tighter as the black Escalade drove through the hefty iron gates of the Blackthorn estate. Silverpine Ridge stretched behind us like something out of a book, very tall pines covered in thick mist, the distant lashing of waterfalls somewhere makin
