Samora’s Room

“Wow, you’re so beautiful, dear,” Samora said softly, her voice like a gentle caress, full of warmth and genuine affection. Her eyes sparkled with kindness, but behind that softness was an unwavering strength—a woman who had endured much and come out steady on the other side.

Marceline forced out a smile, tight and hesitant. “Thank you, ma’am,” she replied, her voice betraying the turmoil twisting in her chest. The words felt stiff, a little awkward, but she pushed them through—politeness, her only armor in this room.

“Oh, don’t call me ma’am,” Samora said with a small, tender laugh. “You’re now my daughter-in-law, so you should call me Mother.” Her tone was gentle, almost coaxing as if she wanted to bridge the gap between them with that simple word.

Marceline smiled back, but it was a fragile thing, barely holding together. “Alright, Mother,” she said quietly.

The word felt strange coming from her mouth—heavy with meaning she wasn’t ready to carry. It hung awkwardly in

"Let's go," Cross said curtly, his voice as cold and sharp as morning frost. Without waiting for a reply, he turned on his heel and strode out of the room.Marceline stood frozen for a moment, her brows furrowed in confusion. His mood had shifted like a sudden thunderclap in a clear sky, and she was still reeling from the intensity of the earlier confrontation. With a sigh, she followed him, her heels clicking softly against the polished floors."I should at least greet Grandmother before we leave," she said hesitantly, hoping to salvage a sliver of courtesy amidst the chaos.Cross halted and spun around to face her, his eyes narrowed with irritation. "It’s useless. I've already done that. You don’t need to waste time on such formalities. Let’s go."His tone cut through her like glass, and she simply nodded, swallowing her protest as they exited the house. The air outside was crisp, but the tension between them made it feel suffocating. They reached the car park in silence. The driver

Cross started laughing. The sound was unexpected — low at first, like a spark catching fire, then rising into something cruel and amused. It echoed across the stone balcony, cold and sharp like shattered glass. Alvin blinked, his brows furrowed in confusion.“What’s so damn funny?” he asked, a twitch of irritation forming at the corner of his mouth.Cross tilted his head, the amusement in his eyes anything but kind. “You must be out of your mind to think I’d ever let you have Marceline.”Alvin’s jaw tightened. “I don’t care what you let me do, Cross. I don’t need your permission when it comes to her.” His voice trembled with a mixture of defiance and something darker — longing, perhaps. Obsession.Cross stepped closer, the smile on his face now nothing more than a taunt. “Only a crazy man wants his brother’s wife. But I know one thing for sure…” He leaned in slightly, voice dropping to a razor-sharp whisper. “Marceline will never be yours. No matter what fantasy you’ve built in your t

Marceline’s eyes locked onto Cross, searching his face for any flicker of doubt or hesitation. But his expression was calm, almost unreadable—like a stone fortress. The words he had just spoken echoed inside her mind, clashing violently with everything she believed. She shook her head slowly, the movement almost involuntary. No. That’s not possible. Her voice trembled slightly, betraying the brittle veneer of certainty she tried to wear. “You’re mistaken,” she said softly but firmly. “My mother wouldn’t hurt anyone. She didn’t know that he was married at first… before she knew, it was already too late.”The sentence hung in the air like a desperate plea. Marceline wanted to believe it with every fiber of her being. Her mother was kind—gentle, loving, a woman who had always protected her from the harshness of the world. The very thought that she could be a liar or a villain tore at something deep inside Marceline, leaving a raw ache.Cross smiled, a slow, almost bitter curl of his lips

The dining room fell into a sharp silence, so tense it could’ve been carved with a blade. The polished walls of the Dejeva mansion seemed to close in, every gilded frame, every antique lamp standing witness to the war of truth and lies unraveling before them.Grandmother Ginger’s piercing gaze, sharpened by years of commanding both business and bloodlines, cut through the thick air. She wasn’t a woman to be fooled by shiny exteriors or honeyed words. Her sharp cheekbones only added to the stern set of her expression as she leaned forward in her velvet-backed chair, eyes flicking from Alvin then landing squarely on her grandson, Cross.“Tell me the truth, Cross,” she said, her voice measured but edged with frost. “Is this marriage... fake?”A current of shock zipped through the room. The weight of that single question pulled every thread of composure taut.Cross’s jaw twitched. His mouth parted slightly, as though the words were ready to leap from his tongue. But he didn’t speak.Marce

The last sentence hit her like a slap wrapped in velvet. She turned to look at him—Cross—the man who’d ruined her life and then bound her to him with a ring and a lie. Her lips parted slightly, her breath catching in her throat, but no words came out. What could she possibly say to that?“You shouldn’t belittle yourself any longer,” he said, his tone cold, matter-of-fact, like he was handing down a verdict. “My wife shouldn’t be a weak sweetheart.”Wife.She flinched inside at that word. It still didn’t feel real.Marceline gave a small nod, not because she agreed, but because fighting him was pointless. She turned away, pressing her forehead lightly against the cool glass of the car window. Outside, the world blurred into streaks of gold and shadow as the city lights melted into the evening sky.She shouldn’t take his words to heart. That’s what she told herself. Over and over again. But they echoed anyway—echoed like old ghosts in the hallways of her mind.He had discarded her once
