As he gets closer, my heart beats faster. Everyone is quiet. Looking at him in that pin drop silence, I feel so many emotions at once.

He gets to where I am. I am looking down at him, bloody full of pain and all I can think of is I am grateful he is not dead. I am even more grateful I was not the one that killed him.

"GET HER DOWN!" he screams to his people. They all run to where I am and help me down.

My feet are weak and I stumble in front but he catches me. He winces in pain from his woun

I wake up screaming and sweating. I am not in the warehouse anymore. I am back in the room that has since become mine. The curtains are drawn so I can't tell if it is night time or during the day. I try to get out of bed, but my leg is shackled to the bed post. I try to wiggle, but I eventually have to sit up to take a closer look. It is a large chain shackle. I try prying it but I only manage to bruise my hand. I give up and lie back. I hear the door being unlocked and I pretend to still be asleep. "How are you still sleeping after sleeping for two whole days?" Avan asks, his footsteps getting closer and closer. He touches my forehead with the the back of his hand. He covers me before sitting by my side. He runs my hair back and I try so hard not move away from his touch. He holds my hand for a while before walking away. I think he is gone but when I open my eyes I see the bathroom door open. I close my eyes back again. He comes back to my side and takes my hand. I wince when

I whisper. He moves back and looks at me in disbelief. "Worry about yourself," he is right. "Everyone out," they all walk out, leaving me on the floor and him standing besides me. "How did it feel?" he kneels by me. "What?" I ask, still tasting blood in my mouth. "As they hit you and I'm guessing elecrocuted you, how did it feel?" there's a twinkle in his eyes I have never seen before. He loves seeing me this way. "How do you think it felt?" he looks up, thoughtfully. "It

  • MATCH MADE IN HELL.   CHAPTER THIRTY SIX; MISUNDERSTOOD ORDERS.

I have a splitting headache. I strain to keep my eyes open, but the slap I get forces me to. I see three guys I have never met in front of me. We are in a kind of warehouse and it is cold. "Who are you and where am I?" I try to move and that is when I notice that my hands are bound from behind. "We ask the questions here missy," one of the guys says, taking a step closer. All I remember is being terrified all night but I have no recolletion of how I ended up here."What is it you want from me?" I try to ignore the ringing in my ears. "We're waiting to hear if our boss dies then we kill you, if he doesn't then we torture you and let you go," it takes a minute but it finally comes back to me. I shot him. I really shot him. I don't know whether I am glad or sad. "How is he doing?" I ask looking down. "What do you care?" another one asks. That's right, why do I care? They move away and whisper about something amongst themselves occasionally throwing glances my way. I fear what they

  • MATCH MADE IN HELL.   CHAPTER THIRTY FIVE; IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT.

I get startled in the middle of the night. I reach out for him but the bed is empty. "Avan," I call out for him but nothing. I try to go back to sleep but I am unable to. I switch on the lights and get out of bed. I am very familiar with his house at this point. I hesitate in front of his room. I debate whether to just go in but decide to knock first. There's no answer so I enter. It's different than the last time. It is bare and feels cold. He is not inside but I still go in. His scent is strong and makes me feel strangely comforted. There are two doors inside that aren't the washroom. I open the first one. It opens to his study, which is also dark. I walk around. It is filled with books from the floor to the ceiling. I wonder how many of these books he has actually read. Other than a computer and some pens, there is nothing on his large mahogany large desk. I sit on the office chair. It doesn't look as comfortable as it feels. Out of curiosity, I try to open all the drawers but

"Hello," I say as soon as she picks up. "Hey, girl. How have you been?" It's so nice to hear her voice. "I feel like I haven't talked to you in forever," I say, trying to push away what just happened from my mind. "I am still mad at you," Jade is someone who can't keep what she's feeling to herself. I like that about her. "What did I do?" I try to recall the last time we talked. I can't think of anything I might have said to make her mad."You refused to let me join you on your trip," she says. "Oh that," I smile and adjust the covers on top of me. "Don't say it like that," I can imagine her scowling. "Like what?" I can't help but laugh. "Like it wasn't a big deal and I shouldn't be mad," I stop laughing. She is serious. "I am so sorry honey. I just needed some time alone, and believe me I regret not allowing you to join me," I mean it. "Why? What happened?"I tell her everything that happened. From meeting Garden, to receiving the package and running, to Avan saving me and finall

I can't seem to keep my eyes off him. Something about him has changed, but I can't seem to place my fnger on it. "How have you been these days?" I ask, as he stops at a pedestrian crossing. "I have been good," he gives me a small smile. "Anything unusual happen when I wasn't around?" I probe. "You were only there for two days and one night. What could possibly have happened?" I don't know what to say, but I am sure something about him is different. "How do you know Garden?" I ask. "We're friends, well sort of," he replies clearly not wanting to get into details. "Did you bribe him?" "No," he says without hesitation. "And,,," I start but he cuts me off. "Enough with the questions Starr," he sounds annoyed. We drive in silence for a while. I want to ask where we are going, but I am scared he might bite my head off. "What do you want to eat?" he finally speaks, breaking the silence which I appreciate. "Anything really," he nods. He puts on some music. I close my eyes and think of a s
