CHAPTER ONE; MEETING BILLIONAIRE PATIENT.

It's extremely hot and i put away my covers and roll to the other side of the bed. It had been a very tiresome day and had it not been for my mother's screams I believe I would have slept through it all. I wake up to smoke in my room. I open my bedroom door and see my parents through flames standing across the hall, outside their room. "Vienna, get out!" my father screams at me as I stand frozen. My room is beside the stair way, but my legs feel heavy. I look at them, I cannot leave them there. Logically I know there is no way they can make it across the fire to me, but i can't move. The fire is getting stronger and I start feeling my skin itch from the intense heat. "Vienna Starr Kilmartin run!" this time it's my mother. I look at them as they hold each other. Whether it was to comfort each other or to keep each other from collapsing from the smoke I have never known. "It's okay love, go," my mother says softly between coughs. CHAPTER TWO; I BECOME A MURDER SUSPECT.

It's raining when I get up and continues to do so until i'm in my office building. I find Christine peeping into my office holding two cups of coffee. "What are we looking at?" she jumps obviously startled. "Oh, you're here," she says giving me a quick glance and goes back to looking into my office. "There's this hot guy in your office," I move to her side so I can take a look. It's not Avan. I feel a bit dissapointed. "I told you to let my patients wait for me outside until I get here," I try to dry myself before going in. "But he's not a patient, he said he's a detective and has some questions regarding a case he's working on." I help the detectives sometimes when they are trying to arrest an offender especially serial ones. Christine gives me one of the coffees and heads back to her desk as I go in.The first thing I notice is, he is crude and lacks any sense of sophistication or class. CHAPTER THREE;THE MYSTERIOUS CALLER.

One of the reasons I chose psychiatry was there is rarely any kind of emmergency that cannot wait until morning. That means I get to sleep through the night and not worry that my patients may be dying. So when my phone started to ring in the middle of the night, I took a pillow and covered my ears and went back to sleep. In the morning I get up and find that I have two messages on my voicemail. The first is from an unfamiliar number and the calller does not identify himself. "Hello, sorry to disturb your sleep but I was wondering if you think a life should be repaid by a life? If not what do you think is an equivalent of someone's life? Do you think gender,age or the income of someone should be used to calculate the value of their life? And what about the dignity of someones death. As someone who's been experimenting with death yourself how do you measure someones' worth before deciding to send them off to their deaths?" CHAPTER FOUR; LILY IS DEAD.

It is four in the morning and I wake up to a banging on my door. At first I really think i'm dreaming but after waking up I realize that i'm not. After checking on the camera I see Jade seated on the other side of my door. I open the door. She looks sick. She is all wet from the rain and her face is puffy and it's clear she has been crying. I lean over and hug her. This makes her start crying her. "She is dead Vee, my sister is dead." I remain in that position as I try to process. All I seem to remember is her sweet and loving face the day my brother had brought her as his girlfriend. We all knew her since we've always been close to her family but we were all so pleased that our families were going to be related. We sit on the floor for an hour. CHAPTER FIVE; LAURA'S SON.

I hear a voice from a distance. I try to open my eyes but the light is too bright and I close them as soon as I do. "Hey, how are you feeling" I hear a familiar voice I cannot place. "You were supposed to come meet me yesterday and you did not show nor leave a message," I try to think what appointments I had yesterday. Then it hit me and I open my eyes. Just what I thought it's detective Swindle. He is sitting besides me with concern written all over his face.He helps me sit up. "How did you know where I live?" I notice the basin of water and the towel on the table. "After work I passed by your office and your assistant said you had not shown up the whole day and you were not answering your phone so I asked for your address." He wring the towel, places it over my forehead and holds it with his left hand. He is super close to me and I feel him trying to avoid eye contact. "So you were that worried about me," he shuffles uncomfortably. He brings my left hand up to hold the the towel.

CHAPTER SIX;ANOTHER DOCTOR ANOTHER DEATH.

Watching his car drive off made me feel so exposed and vulnerable. Like he was protecting my sanity and my heart and him being gone had left me open for the taking. I start clearing the table and cleaning the dishes, hoping for a destruction. My mind keeps wandering off to Jade no matter how hard I try not to think of her. I wish she could just talk to me. My phone starts ringing immediately I'm done. It's a new number. "Hello, It's Avan," I breathe a sigh of relief. I am still worried that the strange caller might try to get in touch with me. "Oh, hi Avan," there's a brief silence before the baritone voice speaks again. "I heard from Christine that you are sick," I pause for minute before speaking. "I was but I'm okay now." "How quick? CHAPTER SEVEN; MY FAVOURITE THINGS, MY FAVOURITE PLACES AND MY FAVOURITE PERSON.

I wake up drenched in sweat, "mommy!" It's been a long while since I have had the nighmare of the fire. I am really glad it's my day off. After shower and a quick cup of coffee, I decide to spend my day doing my favourite things. My first stop is an art gallery that recently opened. I have been planning on checking it out but hadn't had the chance. There was a lot going on in my mind and my plan was to distract myself enough not to think of any of that madness. I did not like driving but on rare occassions I enjoyed it, today being one of them. I enjoy the feeling of the breeze from the sea as I drive to the art gallery. The place is different than I had expected. For a small town, every business owner tries to bend to the conservative ways of the town. But not this one, the pieces are wild, exquisite and have nothing conservative about them. One especially draws me in. CHAPTER EIGHT; NO MORE LIES DOCTOR.

I am really trying to listen to what my patient is saying but he has been telling me the same thing for an hour. Scratch that, he tells me the same thing every session since he started seeing me. I like him because no matter how hard he fails to implement the tools we come up with together, he never gives up and always wants to try again or come up with new tools. But this morning I just can't help but be distracted. We had talked with Laura for almost an hour yesterday. I was the one doing all the talking once I manage to find my voice. That was before Sandra told me she had lost all her memories before the accident just as I was about to go home. You know that feeling when you loose something you thought you had just found. CHAPTER NINE; A BIZARRE BREAKFAST.

We have been sitting in silence for twenty minutes since I told Jade about her mother. She had not said anything and I was starting to get worried. I had decided on telling her once we got to my apartment instead of at Rochelle's. I decide to bring her some water. After drinking the water I can see her slowly get over the shock. "You mean she's been alive all this time?" It's still hard for her to believe everything she has just heard. "Yes, sweetheart," I try to assess what she is thinking. CHAPTER TEN; A MORNING FOR FATHERS.

I get to my office and find John, Jade's father waiting for me. It has been a while since we've seen each other. Jade and I usually hang out at my place or somewhere else as long as it's not their home. I like John just fine, it's Rackel, his second wife we both have a problem with. "It's been a while little one," he says as he comes closer and hugs me. "I'm not that little any more," I say lightly. We both sit on the clients' couch. "So how have you been?" he asks. "I've been good. Work's good," he laughs and pats the back of my hand. "Is that all your life is? What about a social life? Are you seeing anyone?" I smile and shake my head. "But you've done really well for yourself. Your parents would be so proud if they were still around," he says. We stay silent after that. I think of them. It doesn't hurt when I think of them nowadays. "I like to think they still are," I say quietly.We catch up. He tells me how work is going. He has expanded the company to five different countries.
