Chapter 39: First Day

Kyra's POV

A knock tore through the silence, and I groaned, shifting under the covers and reaching for the pillow to cover my ears.

Another knock followed, louder this time.

“Miss Kyra?” A female voice called out from beyond the door, before adding, “The female warriors are assembled. They are waiting for you on the training grounds.”

I froze, then blinked.

Was it morning already? Why does it feel as though I didn't sleep at all?

I glanced towards the window, squinting my still sleep-lidded eyes. The sun hadn't even properly risen yet, just a whisper of dawn.

Another knock, and I sat up slowly. Hair tangled into a mess that fell over my face, “Do these people sleep at all?” I mumbled to myself before shouting back a response.

“I will be there.”

After that, the sound of receding footsteps entered my ears, and I let out a sigh.

I think these people are after my life. Just because I am a warrior doesn't mean I shouldn't sleep until the sun has fully risen.
