Chapter 6.

Aria

The word “Tonight” still pressed against me like a heavy hand on my chest. I stood there in Alpha Kael’s office, staring at the floor because looking at him felt too dangerous. My pulse wouldn’t slow. Married. To a man I barely knew. A man whose power filled every corner of this room like smoke.

I swallowed hard, my throat suddenly felt dry. “Okay.”

The word came out small, almost broken. What else could I say? I had no pack anymore. No home. No power to protect myself in a world that had already thrown me away like I was nothing. Logan had made sure of that. If I said no, where would I go? Back into the forest alone? Another rogue, another easy target? At least here… at least with Kael… there was a chance I might survive.

Kael watched me for a long moment, those steel-gray eyes unreadable. “You’re saying yes because you feel you have no choice,” he said quietly. It wasn’t a question. Just a simple statement.

I lifted my gaze, meeting his. The honesty in my voice surprised even me. “What else am I supposed to say? I have nothing left, Kael. Logan took it all—my home, my dignity, my future. If I walk out of here alone, I’ll be dead or claimed by someone worse by morning. At least you’re offering… something.”

He stepped around the desk slowly, stopping just close enough that I could feel the heat rolling off him. “I won’t lie and call this love. Not yet. But I won’t treat you like he did. You’ll be my Luna. Protected and Respected. And in time… maybe more.” His voice dropped lower, rougher. “I know what it feels like to be thrown away by someone who should have valued you. I won’t do that to you.”

Something in his words cracked the wall I had built since the rejection. Not fully. Just enough for a small, shaky breath to escape me. “You don’t even know me.”

“I know enough,” he answered, his eyes never leaving mine. “I know you walked into my territory with nothing but courage and pain. That’s more than most wolves ever show. And I know the way you look at me… there’s fear, yes. But there’s also curiosity. Tell me I’m wrong.”

I couldn’t. The strange warmth that kept blooming in my chest whenever he was near refused to be ignored, even though I tried. “You’re not wrong,” I whispered. “But I’m still terrified.”

“Good,” he said softly. “Fear keeps us alive. Trust will come later. For now, just let me give you safety.” He reached out, his fingers brushing my arm so lightly it sent a shiver through me. “Maya will prepare everything. Rest if you can. I’ll see you under the moon.”

I nodded, too overwhelmed to say more.

Maya was waiting outside. She led me through the winding halls without speaking much at first, but I asked to walk longer, needing to see this place that would become my cage… or maybe my sanctuary. The pack house was breathtaking in a way that left me stunned silent. Servants moved everywhere with quiet efficiency, draping long tables in rich crimson and silver fabrics that looked impossibly expensive. Crystal chandeliers caught the light and threw it across dark wood walls carved with scenes of powerful wolves under full moons. Vases of night-blooming flowers filled the air with a heady, wild scent.

In the great hall, they were already setting up for something grand—platters of fresh meat and breads being carried in, silverware polished until it gleamed like blades. My steps slowed as I watched them work. This wasn’t a quick, forced ceremony. This was lavish. Deliberate. How much wealth did Kael have that he could throw all of this together in hours? And why? Just to spite Logan? The thought made my stomach twist. Was I really worth this much trouble, or was I simply the perfect weapon in whatever old war these two Alphas were fighting?

A faint tingle spread through my palms again, warm and strange, like something inside me wanted to reach out and touch the energy of this place. I rubbed my hands together, frowning. Exhaustion. That’s all it was. My mind was grasping at anything after the last two days. Nothing more.

We stepped outside briefly, and I saw the training grounds. Wolves sparred in human form before shifting in smooth, powerful bursts—muscles rippling, fur flowing like liquid night. Once shifted, they moved with terrifying speed and strength, eyes glowing faintly as they cut through shadows with perfect night vision. Ironfang wasn’t playing at power. It was power. The sight left me breathless and a little dizzy.

Maya finally guided me to a quiet chamber. I collapsed onto the bed, emotions crashing over me in waves—fear, anger at Logan, confusion about Kael, and that tiny, stubborn spark of hope I couldn’t quite kill. Sleep came in fits, haunted by moonlight and distant howls.

When Maya woke me, dusk had settled into full night. She helped me into the white gown…simple silk that flowed like water, silver threads catching every flicker of lantern light. My hair was brushed until it shone, woven with small moonflowers. Looking in the mirror, I barely recognized myself. Broken, yes. But standing taller than I had in days.

The ceremony clearing took my breath away when we arrived. Torches burned in a wide circle around a low stone altar. Kael’s pack stood in respectful rows, their eyes gleaming in the firelight. And there, beneath the full moon, stood Kael. Tall. Powerful. Devastating in black. His gaze locked on me the moment I stepped forward, and something raw flashed across his face…possession, protectiveness, and something deeper he quickly masked.

I walked to him slowly, my heart hammering in my rib cage. When I stopped in front of him, the air between us felt alive.

“You look…” He paused, his voice low and rough. “Like you were always meant to stand here.”

I let out a shaky laugh. “I feel like I’m dreaming. Or falling.”

His hand reached for mine, warm and steady. “Then fall. I’ll catch you.”

The elder began the rites. The words wrapped around us…unity, strength, chosen paths. Kael never looked away from me.

“I, Alpha Kael of Ironfang, take you, Aria Stone, as my Luna and my mate,” he said, voice deep and unwavering. “I vow to protect you with everything I am. To give you the home and respect you were denied. And to stand beside you, no matter what comes.”

Tears slipped down my cheeks. “I, Aria Stone, take you, Alpha Kael, as my Alpha and my mate,” I whispered, voice trembling but clear. “I vow to stand with you. To build something real… even if I’m scared.”

The iron bands etched with crescent moons slid onto our fingers, warm and solid. The elder raised his arms. “By the Moon’s will, I pronounce you bound—Alpha and Luna of Ironfang!”

The pack’s soft cheers rose around us. Kael pulled me into his arms, holding me close, his heartbeat strong against my ear. “You’re not alone anymore,” he murmured into my hair. “Not tonight. Not ever.”

I clung to him, tears falling freely. For one fragile moment, the world felt almost right.

Then a savage roar tore through the night.

Figures burst from the trees. Logan stormed into the clearing at the head of his warriors, his eyes wild with fury. His broad shoulders heaved as he stared straight at me, at the ring now gleaming on my finger.

“Aria!” he bellowed, voice cracking with raw possession. “What the hell have you done?”

ARIAThe silence that followed those words was so complete that I could hear my own heartbeat.Let's get married.I stood there and stared at him and waited for some part of my brain to catch up with what my ears had just processed. Nothing came. My mind had simply stopped, like a clock someone had yanked the battery out of, and I was left standing in the middle of his office at eight in the morning with absolutely no functioning response. The moon goddess had a sick sense of humor. That was the only explanation I had. Because I had gone through the last thirty-six hours like a person being dragged through water, barely keeping my head above the surface, and every time I thought I had found solid ground something else happened. My mate rejected me. He banished me. I wandered into the wrong territory. I got captured by wolves I had never met and hauled into a packhouse that looked like it had been built to intimidate people. I had managed to get through all of that without completely f

KAELThe moment she was out of my office, I let out a slow breath and leaned back against my desk.Aria Stone.I had been searching for that name for months. I didn't have a face, didn't have a location, didn't have anything except a name that kept surfacing in whispers and old intelligence reports that crossed my desk. A girl connected to the Crescent Moon Pack, connected to a bloodline that mattered, connected to something I needed. And now she had walked straight into my territory like fate had personally delivered her to my door and knocked twice.I wasn't a man who believed in fate. I believed in strategy, in patience, in the kind of calculated movement that other men called luck because they didn't understand the years of work behind it. But tonight had tested that belief.Because the moment I felt the intruder breach the eastern border of my land, I had gone to handle it myself. A decision that surprised even my wolves. I didn't do perimeter checks. I sent men for that. But som

ARIAFear gripped my chest as the stranger’s command echoed in the silent forest. “Take her.” The wolves around me moved instantly. Before I could react, two of them grabbed my arms. I struggled, panic flooding my veins.“Let me go!” I snapped, trying to pull away. But their grip tightened.“Relax,” one of them muttered. “You’re not in a position to fight.” I glared at him, refusing to show how terrified I actually felt. My eyes shifted back to the man who had given the order. He watched me calmly, like I was something he found mildly interesting. His dark hair fell slightly over his forehead, and his sharp jaw tightened as he studied me.He looked powerful. Not just strong, but dangerous. Every instinct inside me screamed that this man wasn’t someone to mess with.“Where are you taking me?” I demanded but no one answered. The wolves began walking deeper into the forest, dragging me along with them. I tried to memorize the path, but after a few minutes, I realized I had no idea where

ARIAThe silence after the rejection felt louder than the gasps that filled the hall.My chest still burned where the mate bond had snapped, the pain raw and unbearable. It felt like something had been ripped out of me, leaving behind an empty, aching void.I stumbled backward, struggling to steady myself. My legs felt weak, and my vision blurred with tears I refused to let fall. I wouldn’t cry. Not here. Not in front of them. Whispers spread through the crowd like wildfire.“She got rejected…”“By the Alpha…”“She’s just an omega anyway…”“What was she thinking?”Every word felt like a dagger slicing into my already broken heart. I clenched my fists tightly, forcing myself to stay upright. Alpha Logan had already turned away, as if I didn’t exist. As if I meant nothing. That hurt more than the rejection itself. He didn’t even care. “Aria…” Lily rushed to my side, her eyes filled with worry. She grabbed my arm gently, supporting me before I could collapse. “I’m fine,” I whispered,

-Aria-The air felt heavier than usual. Or maybe it was just my nerves.I smoothed my hands over my simple black dress, trying to steady the trembling in my fingers. The fabric clung softly to my waist, but no matter how many times I adjusted it, I still felt out of place. Tonight was the night. My eighteenth birthday. The night I would finally meet my mate. For wolves, this was the most important night of our lives. The Moon Goddess revealed our destined partner when we turned eighteen. Some people got lucky and found their mates immediately. Others waited months… even years.I just prayed I wouldn’t be one of the unlucky ones.“You’re going to wrinkle that dress if you keep tugging at it.” I turned to see Lily leaning against the doorway, her arms folded across her chest and a teasing smile on her lips. “You look beautiful, Aria,” she added gently.I exhaled slowly. “I feel like I’m about to pass out.”She laughed softly. “That’s normal. My ceremony wasn’t any better. I almost thre
