I froze.

It wasn’t a conscious reaction. Before my brain even registered his face, my body had already locked up. I blinked once. Twice. Hoping my eyes were lying.

But they weren’t.

It was Jarek.

The one name every pack feared.

He stood near the fountain in the center of campus. Calm. Still. Like he belonged. But he didn’t. This was campus—where midterms and shitty vending machine coffee ruled.

Not blood. Not ancient oaths.

Next to me, Enzo was frozen, too. His hand still held mine, but he didn’t say a word. I knew him well enough to understand he was calculating. Watching. Waiting.

Because everyone knew who Jarek was—and what he was capable of. He didn’t just destroy enemies. He tore through anyone who stood in his way. One wrong move could start a war. And not just for him—for every pack connected to us.

What the hell was he doing here?

I sat in the back row of the lecture hall, pretending to take notes. The words on the screen blurred like rain washing away ink.Today was... insane.Xander stood beside a woman claiming to be his future Luna, and for some reason, it burned. Deep in my chest, like something being torn apart from the inside. He’s the only guy who’s ever kissed me—and maybe that kiss was what triggered the cursed blood running in my veins. Then Enzo cornered me before class started, his voice low and sharp, promising he wouldn’t give up. Not now. Not ever. His intensity still lingered on my skin like an invisible scar. And Jarek? He just showed up—like a storm with no warning, just impact. And Leon… sweet, stubborn Leon. The one who looks at me like he knows who I really am. And I didn’t answer him. I couldn’t. Not yet. I needed to talk to Rael and Tiana before I opened that door.Professor Reed's voice droned on from the front of the class, echoing

  • MOONVEIL : The Blood of the Last Curse   Chapter 25: No Such Thing as Normal

This campus hasn’t changed. But ever since I came back from Moonveil, it feels like I’m walking through the same world… only now, I’m carrying a nightmare on my back.I try to focus on my studies—on things like stats class and term papers—anything but Xander, Enzo, Jarek, and the cursed mess that follows me like a shadow. If I can’t reject the curse, then I have to control it. That’s what Dad told me.A curse born of love... then love is what I must learn to command. But Xander’s words about matebonds won’t stop echoing in my head. Out of all the men, why is he the one I can’t seem to avoid?“Willow!”I turned quickly. Ivy—one of my classmates—was waving from the library steps. I gave her a small smile and a quick wave, but I didn’t slow down. Stats started in ten minutes. I needed a routine. Normalcy. Something that didn’t reek of blood, fate, or longing. Then I saw her.

I sat quietly in the corner of the café. The scent of coffee and toasted bread from Valencia wasn’t strong enough to clear the mess in my head.“Don’t just sit there, Willow,” Leon said, trying to sound casual, but I could see the curiosity in his eyes. “You’re killing me here.”How was I supposed to tell him I wasn’t even human? How could I explain that my bloodline was cursed by ancient power? That when the night bites and the moon hangs full in the sky, my body shifts—eyes glowing gold, skin sprouting fur, and fangs aching to tear?I looked down, avoiding his gaze. “It’s complicated.”Leon’s jaw tightened. “I’m not stupid, Willow. I’ve known something was off ever since you came back.”It felt like standing at the edge of a cliff, staring down, too scared to jump. “Just… don’t worry about it,” I said. Another lie. Another attempt to run away, even though I knew Leon wasn’t the type to give up easi

I wanted to say something. I wanted to scream that Leon would understand—that our friendship was strong enough to survive any truth. But the words got stuck in my throat. Because deep down, I was scared too. Scared of what would happen if one day he saw my eyes glowing yellow… or saw me in another form entirely.Rael looked at me sharply, but his voice softened. “You know what, Willow? Human fear can be more dangerous than any werewolf’s hatred. If he panics—if he tells the wrong person, even by accident—it won’t just be you who gets burned. One small leak, and Moonveil crumbles.”“He wouldn’t do that,” I whispered, but my voice didn’t even convince me.“Then let’s hope you’re right,” Rael said flatly. “Because trusting the wrong person even once can destroy everything.”Tiana placed her hand gently on my shoulder—warm and grounding, just like when I was little. “We’re not saying you have to cut him off, sweetheart. But you need to be careful. Secrets like this don’t survive long in t

Leon took a deep breath. His shoulders rose and fell in a rhythm that felt too deliberate for someone who usually moved like a breeze—unbothered, easygoing. Then came his smile—wider this time, but stretched too tight, like paper about to tear at the edges. “I waited for you every day, you know?” he said, trying to sound casual. “Hung out in front of your house like a weirdo. Even thought maybe you moved to another planet. Your phone’s been dead—well, not dead, but it never picks up.” There was pain beneath the banter. A raw, lingering ache that made me want to reach out and pull him back into the comfort of easier days. “A lot’s happened, Leon,” I said quietly. The words tasted like dust on my tongue. There was so much I wanted to tell him, but even more I had to keep buried. He nodded fast, like he knew how heavy that sentence really was. “Same here,” he said. That smile—still there, but it didn’t touch his eyes. “But don
