Vincent's POV

> The Next Morning <<

I groaned as soon as I opened my eyes and was met with bright light. Who the fuck turned on the lights?! I screamed mentally. I angrily sat up, looked at Amber's side of the bed, ready to give her an earful for leaving the lights on, but to my surprise, she wasn't there. That's when I remembered that she didn't sleep here last night.

Just at that moment, there was a knock on the door. "Mr. Liam?" our maid's voice sounded from outside the door.

"What?" I barked, strangely angry that I didn't wake up with Amber beside me.

"Good morning, sir," she greeted. "Your assistant is waiting downstairs."

My eyes subconsciously found the wall clock, and I realized it was already 7:35 a.m. "I'll be down in ten minutes," I told her.

"Yes, sir," she replied. Then I heard her walk away.

As soon as she was gone, I got up and dashed into the bathroom to freshen up.

                                           > > > > >

Just like the maid told me earlier, I saw my assistant, Jason Kai, waiting for me in the living room as I walked down the stairs.

He got up immediately after he heard my footsteps. "Good morning, Mr. Liam," he greeted.

"Morning," I answered shortly, then headed straight to the dining area where the maid had dished out my breakfast. I sat down and reached for my usual morning tea, but frowned when it wasn't in its usual spot or anywhere else on the table. "Where is my morning tea?" I asked.

Before the maid could respond, I looked toward the guest rooms upstairs and narrowed my eyes. "Where is Amber? Why didn't she prepare my tea before I came down?" I growled lowly.

"Oh, Mrs. Liam left the house earlier this morning," the maid replied.

My brows furrowed even more. "What? Where did she go?"

She shook her head. "She didn't tell me."

I balled my fists on the table, gritted my teeth, and glared at the dishes before me. I had somehow lost my appetite after hearing that she left the house without letting me know her whereabouts.

"Where could she have gone so early in the morning?" I grumbled under my breath.

"Sir, is everything alright?" the maid asked in a scared tone while staring at my hand. I looked down and realized I'd picked up a knife and was stabbing a piece of bacon.

"I'll skip breakfast," I said as I dropped the knife and got up. "Let's go, Jason."

Jason nodded and gestured for me to go in front of him while he followed closely behind. My driver, Mr. Sebastian, was already waiting outside. He held the car's back door open immediately after he saw me approaching, and without wasting time, I slid in.

Mr. Sebastian and Jason quickly got into the car too. "Are we driving straight to the office, sir?" Mr. Sebastian asked.

"Hm," I simply hummed in agreement.

He started the car and drove off. I reached for my phone to check the time, only to break into a smile when Chloe's photo appeared on my phone's wallpaper. This is the woman I wanted to marry. This is the woman I wanted to spend forever with. But that selfish Amber destroyed my plan!

I held my phone tighter as I recalled Chloe's scared voice when she begged me on the phone to marry Amber or Amber's thugs would kill her. 'Amber, I will never forgive you.'

On cue, my phone rang, and my smile widened when I saw Chloe's name pop up. "Hello..."

"I need to see you, Vincent," she interrupted me urgently.

The smile on my face vanished instantly. "Is everything alright?"

"N-no," her voice broke as she sniffed.

"Are you crying? What's going on?" I was already shifting nervously in my seat.

"I'll send you my address, just come." Then she hung up, leaving me with a series of unanswered questions and worries. Why is she crying?

She sent the address within a minute, and I quickly showed it to Mr. Sebastian. "Let's go to this address."

"Yes, sir."

                                      > > > > > > >

"Sir, we've arrived," Mr. Sebastian informed me.

I gave an approving nod. He got out of the car and rushed to open my door. "Wait for me inside the car," I instructed Jason before getting out.

Upon getting out, my brows furrowed deeply, and I looked around worriedly. "Are you sure we're at the right address?"

"Yes, sir," Mr. Sebastian answered.

A cold breeze hit me as nurses rushed past me. A few patients also walked past with nurses or relatives accompanying them. Why would Chloe be in a hospital? What has happened?

"Mr. Liam?" a male voice pulled me out of my thoughts.

I nodded, and he continued, "Please come with me. I'll take you to Miss Chloe."

He led the way, and without asking any questions, I followed quickly.

                                      > > > > > > >

We soon made it to a ward. He pushed the door open, and Chloe came into sight. She was lying down wearing a hospital gown, but she sat up as soon as she saw me.

"Vincent," she called quietly.

I rushed forward to support her. She pulled me down to sit beside her on the bed, then hugged me tightly and began crying. "It's over for me," she said.

Not knowing what to do, I simply patted her on the back comfortingly. I was worried when I arrived at the hospital. I was scared that something had happened to her. But why can't I feel anything now that I'm seeing her?

"I'm finished," she rephrased, raising her head and looking at me with teary eyes.

"What's wrong? Why are you here?" I looked around the ward. "In a hospital."

Chloe didn't say a word. She buried her face in my chest and continued crying. I wrapped my arms around her before facing the man who brought me here.

He reached out his hand for a handshake. "I'm Doctor Jeremy."

"Doctor?" I asked, wondering why a doctor would go out of his way to get a patient's family from outside. He exchanged looks with Chloe before continuing.

"So, according to our diagnosis, your wife's been diagnosed with kidney disease."

My eyes widened as I looked down at Chloe immediately. "Kidney disease?!"

"Yes. And she needs a kidney transplant as soon as possible, or she'd lose her life," Jeremy said.

Amber's POVI was laughing hard while reading the clauses, then I got to the last clause and I didn't know if I should continue laughing or begin crying.“Clause 23: Since a child wasn't involved in the marriage, Amber Sinclair will have absolutely no right to any of Vincent Liam's properties.”My head tilted slightly as I focused on that part. I wasn't intending to demand anything from Vincent after the divorce, but stating it here under the guise of no child being involved in the marriage was so unfair to me. I mean, what about my time wasted during the marriage? I wasn't even allowed to work and save money for myself, so they were basically sending me into the streets penniless.“Are you going to sign that?” Ms. Miller asked.I shook my head with a serious expression.“Not yet, but this just reminds me of something very important.”“What is that?”“I should start working as soon as possible.” She wanted to say something, but I continued to explain my point to her. “If I don't start

Amber's POVFirst, there was silence. It was as if their brains were processing the words that came out of my mouth. Then came the explosion.“What?!” My mother and stepfather exclaimed, their faces contorted in shock.Chloe's face fell instantly. She stared at me with her mouth hanging open wordlessly. She suddenly sprang up and lunged at me, holding me by the neck of my blouse.“What did you just say?” Her eyes reddened and her breath became uneven.“I said, I am pregnant,” I pushed her hand away. “With Vincent's child.”She shook her head in denial.“No, no, no. This can't be happening right now.” The panic in her voice was obvious. My stepfather stepped forward and gave me a slap I didn't see coming, and for the first time in twenty-five years, my mother rushed in front of me with her arms spread out protectively.“Easy, Richard, she's with child,” she said.If my cheek wasn't stinging from the slap, her action would have fluttered my heart. I held my stinging cheek and glared at

My mom called again while I was having breakfast, urging me to come home because there's something important we must talk about.Annabelle scoffed from the other side of the phone.“I'm with child,” she mimicked me in a mocking manner. “I thought you were strongly against keeping the child. Where is that protectiveness coming from now?”I shrugged my shoulders even though she couldn't see me.“I don't care what you think, you're coming with us,” she insisted. “Don't worry, I'll make sure even a drop of alcohol won't get in your mouth.”“I... I don't know,” I hesitated. She released a frustrated groan.“Come on, don't be like those ladies who get restricted by pregnancy and end up abandoning their friends.”My lips curved into a smile as I imagined what her expression would be right now. She'd be pouting her lips and doing that puppy-

Vincent's POVI groaned as a severe headache struck my head. I slowly opened my eyes and sat up, holding my head in my hands. I remained in that position for a while before taking a look at my surroundings and realizing I was in a strange room. I was confused for a second until I recalled what happened last night and how I might have ended up here.Just then, the door creaked open and my buddy, Steve, stuck his head in.“Oh, you're awake,” he stepped inside completely. “Here,” he handed me a glass of honey water, then nodded at my hand still resting on my forehead. “Aftermath of drinking too much. I told you you'd regret it this morning.”I didn't say a word in my defense. I simply gulped down the water and handed him the empty glass.“Thanks.”Steve nodded.“So, are you ready to talk about why you stormed into my bar last night?”His question reminded me of yesterday's incident, and I balled my fists while glaring at the floor with a tightened jaw.“Chloe's been cheating on me.”“Wha

Amber's POV“What does the time say?” Vincent asked, his eyes moving to my belly. “Where did you go that you're returning home dangerously late? Do you realize you're with child?”I raised my brows at his last question, a laugh threatening to escape my lips. I was expecting a confrontation from him after dumping the test results on him, but I didn't expect him to be waiting for me at the door.“Reply to me when I'm talking to you. Where have you been?”I ignored him and pushed past him, but he caught my right arm and pulled me back. “Am I talking to someone or not?”I released a hiss as I snatched my arm from him. “Quit being a hypocrite in front of me. Stop pretending like you care when you clearly don't!” I yelled in his face.“I... I...” he seemed short of words.“You what?” I nodded my head slowly. “I am done having you and everyone else control my life, Vincent. Yes, I am pregnant with your child, but that doesn't give you the right to interfere with my life.” I looked him in the

Amber's POVIt's been seven hours. We've been sightseeing for seven good hours now. It wasn't supposed to turn into a whole-day outing, but after Ethan dropped his luggage at home and picked up his car, we somehow kept driving from one place to another.“I think it's time to eat,” Ethan said. He glanced at my stomach before focusing on the road. I was in the front seat with him.I frowned a bit.“And why are you staring at my belly?” My arms instinctively wrapped around my stomach.“Your stomach's been growling,” he replied.“Oh...” I laughed softly.Annabelle suddenly leaned forward from the backseat and placed her hands on both the headrests of our seats.“I know a fine restaurant, but it's expensive.” She faced Ethan. “Is your pocket capable?” she asked him.Ethan scoffed.“Nothing's too expensive when it involves my girls.”Annabelle fell back into her seat with a victorious grin.“Now, that's the only thing I love about you.”I laughed tiredly. I knew the restaurant she was talki
