Amber’s POV

> Wetland Event Center — 8 p.m. <<

“Smile for the camera,” my husband, Vincent Liam, whispered in an authoritative tone, yet his bright smile never left his face as he stared at the camera and waved happily at the audience watching us.

How can he pretend as if nothing happened twenty minutes ago? How can he smile happily as if I didn’t just walk in on him kissing one of the waitresses in the janitor’s room?

“I said, smile!” he growled through gritted teeth. His left arm, wrapped around my waist, tightened, and his free hand pinched my lower back.

I wanted to pull away from him, but my wandering eyes landed on my mother-in-law, who was holding her glass of champagne tightly while glaring at me, daring me to make any sudden movements.

I swallowed hard, forcing down my pain, and wore a weak smile. “You’re hurting me,” I whispered to my husband.

“Then fix your attitude until the ceremony is over,” he warned.

I wanted to argue with him, but then again, I locked eyes with my stepfather, who was also glaring at me. Just like my mother-in-law, he was daring me to misbehave.

“Don’t destroy my image in the industry, or I swear, you’ll regret coming into my life!”

Today’s ceremony was all about Vincent. Today was the day he officially took over his father’s business—chains of hotels and cement companies—and dignified personnel from all walks of life had come to honor him. It wouldn’t be nice if I caused a scene here, so it was best to wait until we got home to discuss his infidelity.

Forcing a bright smile onto my face, I waved at the audience while reporters continued taking photos of Vincent and me.

The rest of the ceremony continued with Vincent and me walking arm in arm, greeting our guests and pretending to be the happiest and most loving couple ever.

> The Liams’ Villa — 11 p.m. <<

My head rested against the car window as I watched our driver, Mike, drive through the big gates and head straight to the garage.

Vincent's head rested against the headrest as he slept soundly. He must be tired from all the socializing at the ceremony earlier... or maybe he was just tired from banging that waitress.

“Mrs. Liam,” Mike called as he held the door open for me. “We’re home,” he said.

A heavy, deep sigh left my lips as I stared outside once more. Home... a home where I’m not welcome.

Turning back to Vincent, I gave him a gentle nudge, and his eyes snapped open.

“We’re home,” I repeated Mike’s words.

Vincent simply nodded and alighted from the car, then headed toward the house without waiting for me or even turning to see if I was following behind him.

Rolling my eyes, I also alighted from the car and rushed after him.

“We need to talk,” I said immediately after we got inside.

He ignored me and headed upstairs toward our room.

I quickly rushed in front of him with my arms spread out, preventing him from going any further.

He gave me an offended glare. “Can’t we have this talk in the morning? I’m already worn out because...”

“I can’t wait until tomorrow,” I interrupted him.

He narrowed his eyes immediately after I said that, not pleased with the tone I had used, but I ignored his expression and continued.

“Why?”

“Why what?” he asked back.

I inhaled deeply. “Aren’t you tired of everything going on between us? Why can’t we be like other couples? Why did you marry me in the first place if you’re just going to treat me like trash? Why don’t you respect me as your wife?”

He furrowed his brows and tilted his head slightly, as if trying to understand the words that had just left my mouth.

“My wife...” He let out a sarcastic laugh. “No. You’re not my wife, and I would never consider making someone like you my wife, neither would I acknowledge you as one.”

His words struck my heart as though a knife had been thrown at it. I wanted to ask him what he meant by those words, but words failed me at that moment, and my mouth parted as I could only stare at him in disbelief.

“You’re nothing but a wicked, selfish, gold-digging bitch!”

I knitted my brows in confusion. “What do you mean by that?” I couldn’t hold back this time.

“Oh? You thought you hid it so well, right? You think I don’t know how you got married in place of your sister?” His left brow raised, ready with an accusation. He took a step closer to me, leaned down a bit, and looked me in the eyes. “You sent thugs to kidnap her and made her miss our wedding, then you stepped forward like a knight in shining armor to save the day. You did all that so you could marry me because you’re secretly obsessed with me but couldn’t have me!”

“What?!”

“Yes.” He leaned even closer to my ear and whispered, “Love can never be forced, Amber. I don’t love you, and I will never love you. Just you watch and see how I will continue to frustrate your life and make you beg for death!”

“Listen, I... she...” He didn’t give me a chance to explain myself. He simply turned away from me and left in a hurry, taking the stairs two steps at a time.

I slumped onto the floor, rested my head against the rails, and looked around pitifully. What a beautiful house—high ceilings, a beautiful and expensive chandelier, antique furniture and paintings, marble floors—anyone would wish to live here. Many girls would envy me and wish they were the ones married to Vincent. If only they knew the sadness embedded inside this house.

Tears flowed down my face as my mind raced back to three years ago—before I became Mrs. Liam.

Amber's POVI was laughing hard while reading the clauses, then I got to the last clause and I didn't know if I should continue laughing or begin crying.“Clause 23: Since a child wasn't involved in the marriage, Amber Sinclair will have absolutely no right to any of Vincent Liam's properties.”My head tilted slightly as I focused on that part. I wasn't intending to demand anything from Vincent after the divorce, but stating it here under the guise of no child being involved in the marriage was so unfair to me. I mean, what about my time wasted during the marriage? I wasn't even allowed to work and save money for myself, so they were basically sending me into the streets penniless.“Are you going to sign that?” Ms. Miller asked.I shook my head with a serious expression.“Not yet, but this just reminds me of something very important.”“What is that?”“I should start working as soon as possible.” She wanted to say something, but I continued to explain my point to her. “If I don't start

Amber's POVFirst, there was silence. It was as if their brains were processing the words that came out of my mouth. Then came the explosion.“What?!” My mother and stepfather exclaimed, their faces contorted in shock.Chloe's face fell instantly. She stared at me with her mouth hanging open wordlessly. She suddenly sprang up and lunged at me, holding me by the neck of my blouse.“What did you just say?” Her eyes reddened and her breath became uneven.“I said, I am pregnant,” I pushed her hand away. “With Vincent's child.”She shook her head in denial.“No, no, no. This can't be happening right now.” The panic in her voice was obvious. My stepfather stepped forward and gave me a slap I didn't see coming, and for the first time in twenty-five years, my mother rushed in front of me with her arms spread out protectively.“Easy, Richard, she's with child,” she said.If my cheek wasn't stinging from the slap, her action would have fluttered my heart. I held my stinging cheek and glared at

Amber's POV“...you know I can't drink alcohol recently, I'm with child,” I whined, rubbing my flat belly softly.I'm in a cab going to my parents' home. My mom called again while I was having breakfast, urging me to come home because there's something important we must talk about.Annabelle scoffed from the other side of the phone.“I'm with child,” she mimicked me in a mocking manner. “I thought you were strongly against keeping the child. Where is that protectiveness coming from now?”I shrugged my shoulders even though she couldn't see me.“I don't care what you think, you're coming with us,” she insisted. “Don't worry, I'll make sure even a drop of alcohol won't get in your mouth.”“I... I don't know,” I hesitated. She released a frustrated groan.“Come on, don't be like those ladies who get restricted by pregnancy and end up abandoning their friends.”My lips curved into a smile as I imagined what her expression would be right now. She'd be pouting her lips and doing that puppy-

Vincent's POVI groaned as a severe headache struck my head. I slowly opened my eyes and sat up, holding my head in my hands. I remained in that position for a while before taking a look at my surroundings and realizing I was in a strange room. I was confused for a second until I recalled what happened last night and how I might have ended up here.Just then, the door creaked open and my buddy, Steve, stuck his head in.“Oh, you're awake,” he stepped inside completely. “Here,” he handed me a glass of honey water, then nodded at my hand still resting on my forehead. “Aftermath of drinking too much. I told you you'd regret it this morning.”I didn't say a word in my defense. I simply gulped down the water and handed him the empty glass.“Thanks.”Steve nodded.“So, are you ready to talk about why you stormed into my bar last night?”His question reminded me of yesterday's incident, and I balled my fists while glaring at the floor with a tightened jaw.“Chloe's been cheating on me.”“Wha

Amber's POV“What does the time say?” Vincent asked, his eyes moving to my belly. “Where did you go that you're returning home dangerously late? Do you realize you're with child?”I raised my brows at his last question, a laugh threatening to escape my lips. I was expecting a confrontation from him after dumping the test results on him, but I didn't expect him to be waiting for me at the door.“Reply to me when I'm talking to you. Where have you been?”I ignored him and pushed past him, but he caught my right arm and pulled me back. “Am I talking to someone or not?”I released a hiss as I snatched my arm from him. “Quit being a hypocrite in front of me. Stop pretending like you care when you clearly don't!” I yelled in his face.“I... I...” he seemed short of words.“You what?” I nodded my head slowly. “I am done having you and everyone else control my life, Vincent. Yes, I am pregnant with your child, but that doesn't give you the right to interfere with my life.” I looked him in the

Amber's POVIt's been seven hours. We've been sightseeing for seven good hours now. It wasn't supposed to turn into a whole-day outing, but after Ethan dropped his luggage at home and picked up his car, we somehow kept driving from one place to another.“I think it's time to eat,” Ethan said. He glanced at my stomach before focusing on the road. I was in the front seat with him.I frowned a bit.“And why are you staring at my belly?” My arms instinctively wrapped around my stomach.“Your stomach's been growling,” he replied.“Oh...” I laughed softly.Annabelle suddenly leaned forward from the backseat and placed her hands on both the headrests of our seats.“I know a fine restaurant, but it's expensive.” She faced Ethan. “Is your pocket capable?” she asked him.Ethan scoffed.“Nothing's too expensive when it involves my girls.”Annabelle fell back into her seat with a victorious grin.“Now, that's the only thing I love about you.”I laughed tiredly. I knew the restaurant she was talki
