The rich aroma of chicken broth filled the spacious kitchen of the luxury apartment. Rebecca stood by the stove, stirring a creamy homemade chicken soup—Samuel’s favorite. Her hands moved with ease and familiarity.

Every now and then, she’d taste the broth and add a dash of pepper.

One of the housemaids walked by and smiled wide when she saw Rebecca. “Ma’am, it feels like I’m dreaming, seeing you here cooking the Master’s favorite soup.”

Rebecca turned and let out a soft chuckle. “Don’t call me Ma’am. I’m not your master’s wife. Just call me Rebecca.”

“Oh, but you’ll always be Mr. Samuel’s wife to us,” another maid chimed in, walking in with a basket of vegetables.

"Who is the substitute woman?" The stern voice made Rebecca's workspace suddenly quiet. Rebecca and Nora both turned their heads quickly. In the doorway stood an authoritative middle-aged woman. The woman was staring intently at Nora. "Mrs. Wanna..." Rebecca said nervously, she immediately stood up. Nora straightened up, trying to remain calm despite the tension on the woman's face. Mrs. Wanna stepped in slowly. "I heard quite clearly, Nora. Did you say Rebecca was just a substitute?" "Aunt Wanna, I'm just stating the facts. Had Rebecca not kept me six years ago, she would never have been able to take my place as Samuel's wife!" Nora said quickly. "Wow, so you blame Rebecca for Samuel's decision to marry her? Six years have passed, Nora. When will you stop being a victim in your own story?" Mrs. Wanna's tone began to rise. Rebecca remained silent. Her eyes looked at th

Samuel's steps halted as he exited the CEO's office, his eyes catching sight of Rebecca standing in the hallway, the woman's eyes still puffy. Rebecca also saw Samuel - and immediately fixated on the man's bloodied hand. "Oh my... your hand is bleeding!" Rebecca exclaimed in panic. Samuel was silent. He wanted to speak, but his throat felt dry. Without waiting for an answer, Rebecca grabbed Samuel's hand and led him into the CEO's office. Samuel complied. For some reason, when Rebecca's hand held his, a warm feeling spread even though the wound on his hand throbbed with pain. Once the two entered the CEO's room, Rebecca pushed Samuel to sit on the sofa. She walked quickly to a small cupboard in the corner of the room, retrieving a first aid kit. "How could you be this careless?" asked Rebecca as she opened the bandages and alcohol. Her voice sounded annoyed, but seemed genuinely

The sound of knocking on the door made Samuel turn his head for a moment. He thought it was Bani coming again, but a soft voice from behind the door put him off. "Mr. Samuel, it's me, Rebecca. May I come in?" Samuel closed his eyes for a moment. Rebecca's voice could still make his chest feel tight. He took a deep breath, trying to remain calm. "Just come in." The door opened slowly. Rebecca stepped inside with a neutral expression. She carried a folder containing a report that Samuel had to sign. "This is the finance division's monthly report. It must be signed today, sir," Rebecca said flatly. Samuel did not immediately take the report. His gaze searched her face. The face that had always warmed him before, now somehow felt unfamiliar. Rebecca waited, still holding the folder. "Then, I'll just put the report here. After you sign it, let me know. Now I - "

As soon as the door to the CEO's office opened, Nora entered without knocking. Her steps were quick, as if to show that she had full rights to the room. "Honey," she called in a spoiled voice. "We haven't had a chance to talk about last night, and I-" "Get out first," Samuel cut in flatly without looking up from his desk. Nora frowned. "Why do you always do that to me, huh?" Samuel looked at her for a moment, then looked back down at the document. "I'm working. If you don't have anything important to do, please come out." Nora stepped closer, her tone starting to rise. "Samuel, you remember, right! I was the one who saved you as a child." Samuel looked up slowly. His face was cold. "I remember." Nora immediately seized the moment. "So why are you ignoring me now? Where is your promise, Samuel. You have to remember that you owe me your

The atmosphere in the Wilson Group's main lobby this morning was different from usual. The employees passed by with serious faces, but some of them were stunned to see a graceful-looking woman in a formal suit and a familiar face. Rebecca strode calmly with a folder in hand. Today was her first day back at Samuel's company. Her status as the CEO's wife was still a secret, as per Samuel's request. "Rebecca?" a voice called out to her. Rebecca turned her head and smiled widely. "Katie?" A woman with short hair ran over and immediately hugged Rebecca tightly. "Oh my god, I thought I saw it wrong. It's true, you're Rebecca. Where have you been for the past five years?" Rebecca laughed softly. "I went to China, I had a job there." "Oh it's only appropriate that I never heard from you.
