John replied with a curt, “Thank you,” and walked in without so much as a glance at Lala.
Lala moved to take his hand, but the guard stopped her. “Your invitation card, ma’am.”
She fumbled through her handbag, pulled it out, and handed it over, tapping her foot as she waited. The moment it was approved, she hurried into the event hall.
Inside, she scanned the room until she spotted John talking to a man in a blue suit. Both of them held wine glasses, casually sipping.
Lala rushed over. “Babe!”
The man noticed her first, smiled, and leaned in to murmur something to John before excusing himself. As he walked away, John’s expression hardened. He turned to Lala, impatience written all over his face, and took another slow sip.
“Why are you pestering me non-stop?” he asked coldly.
Lala’s lips trembled. “John, we need to talk. You’ve been holding something against me—ignoring me for days. It’s killing me. Your silence feels worse than being starved. Please… can you talk to me?”
Her eyes brimmed with tears, frustration and panic tightening in her chest.
John remained calm. “What more is there to say? You already called me a cheater. You already said I chose Hannah over you. So why are you still doing this?”
Tears slipped down Lala’s cheeks. “I’m sorry I said that. I love you. I can’t do anything without you. I still want you.”
John let out a small, bitter laugh. “I don’t want you anymore. I’m with Hannah now. Move on, Lala. Someone else will love you.”
He turned as if to leave, but Lala grabbed his hand, clinging to him. “John, please. Don’t leave me. Babe, I’m begging you.”
John’s face went even colder. “It’s over, Lala.”
He pulled his hand free and walked away, leaving her standing there, shaken and breathless in the middle of the crowd.
Lala fled to the restroom and cried until her chest ached. Through the door, she overheard two men talking.
“Most of the performers aren’t here,” one complained. “Especially the ones willing to sing and entertain the guests.”
Lala’s eyes flickered with an idea. She wiped her face, straightened, and stepped out. Approaching them, she asked, “Sirs… can I perform?”
The men blinked, pleasantly surprised, then broke into excited smiles. “Of course you can. If you want to perform, come with us.”
Lala followed them to a back room. After a short while, she was ushered toward the stage.
The moment she stepped into the lights, John’s expression darkened into a deep frown.
He lifted his glass and swallowed the wine in one long gulp as Lala spoke into the microphone. “This song is dedicated to the love of my life—John. I love him, and I want us to be together forever.”
John’s brows drew tight as she sang. When she finally finished, he let out a slow breath—relief edged with disgust.
As the applause rose, Lala stepped off the stage and walked straight to John.
Lala nervously parted her lips to speak, but before a word could escape, John reached out, seized her wrist, and yanked her along. He dragged her to the doorway of the event hall and hissed, voice sharp with disgust.
“Lala, if you have no shame, I do. Today is for fundraising—for patients who can’t afford their hospital bills, for research that will save lives around the world. And you’re still selfish enough to make this about you. What kind of woman are you?”
Lala’s expression faltered. She hadn’t expected him to be angered by what she’d done. She lowered her head, shame washing over her—but John didn’t stop.
“Lala, no matter what you do, I’ll never love you again. I’ve moved on. You should, too.”
Panic surged through her. “No—no, please. Don’t leave me.”
She reached for his arm, clinging to him, but he shook her off. By then, the commotion had drawn attention; people nearby were staring.
John shoved her back and let out a cold, contemptuous snort. “I will never love a selfish, shameless woman like you. Lala, you’re disgusting.”
Lala crumpled to the floor, tears spilling freely as she stared up at him in shock and disbelief.
“You shouldn’t say something so hurtful to her,” a voice cut in.
Philip stepped forward.
John turned and froze when he saw who it was. “Uncle…”
Philip didn’t look at him. Instead, he moved to Lala and helped her to her feet, his tone gentler. “Are you okay?”
Lala nodded, though her eyes were still wet.
From behind Philip, John snapped, “Lala, stop trying to disgrace me. I won’t tolerate any public nuisance from you anymore.”
He turned and walked away.
As John disappeared into the crowd, Lala’s tears fell harder. Her lips trembled, her chest aching as if it might split open. Philip watched her for a moment before asking quietly, “Did you come in your own car?”
She wiped her cheeks with the back of her hand. “No.”
“Then I’ll drive you home,” Philip said.
She followed him to his parked car. They got in, and the ride passed in near silence. When they reached her house, Lala stepped out and forced herself to wave.
“Thank you,” she murmured.
Philip only nodded before driving off.
The moment Lala opened the door to her room, her composure shattered. She sank to the floor and sobbed until her body shook, grief and disbelief twisting together inside her. After all these years, she had never once imagined their story would end like this.
He flipped the table angrily, spilling the cooked food. He looked at her coldly and then sneered, “The sooner you get lost, the better for you. I don’t want to see your face around my house, Winnie, and I also don’t want to have anything to do with you.”Friedrich stormed out of the house after he finished talking, got into his car, and drove to Amy’s house. When he got there, she wasn’t home. He reversed his car and drove to her workplace to check on her, but he was informed that she wasn’t there either. The next day, he still couldn’t find Amy at her house or her workplace. This troubled him so much that he called her many times, but he still couldn’t reach her on the phone.Frustrated, he gave up on calling her. He was about to step out of his house to check on Amy again when Winnie’s car pulled over. She got out of the car, looking very exhausted. Friedrich threw a glance her way, his face filled with disdain. He hated her for leading him on and blamed her for losing Amy.“She is
Winnie shut down her laptop, took off her eyeglasses, and looked at Friedrich before replying, “What’s the matter?”Friedrich was so angry that he could barely breathe. He trembled with rage. “You’re asking me what’s the matter when you already know what you did? Winnie, why would you threaten Amy? What the fuck is wrong with you?”Winnie sighed. She also felt foolish for doing that, but what had happened had already happened, and she wasn’t going to beat herself up over it. She looked at Friedrich and said, “I was wrong. Can you forgive me? I won’t do it again.”Friedrich’s eyes widened in shock, and he quickly lost his momentum. He stared blankly at Winnie, unable to believe his ears. He had expected her to argue with him.How was he supposed to keep scolding her when she had already apologized? He didn’t feel good about it anymore.Winnie continued, “I love you very much, Friedrich, but if she is the one you choose to be with, I will respect your choice. Be with her. But just know
It was dusk when Amy returned home. She dragged her exhausted body inside and sprawled across her bed. She wanted nothing more than to sleep; taking a round-trip flight within twenty-four hours was no joke. Her lips curled into a satisfied smile. Although she was exhausted, she was happy she had made the journey. She was just about to fall asleep when the doorbell rang.“Go away,” she muttered under her breath, but the person at the door refused to listen. They kept ringing the bell persistently, and her sleepy eyes cleared immediately. She dragged her tired body off the bed and walked toward the door. When she reached it, she grabbed the handle and pulled it open. Standing before her was Winnie.Amy looked at her in surprise. Although she had not said a word to Winnie when Friedrich brought her home during the Christmas holiday, and although he had protected her closely, Amy still remembered the face of the woman who had made her give up the man she had loved for years.“What do you
Being called unreasonable only angered Friedrich more. How dare the woman who had played him like a fool say such a thing? She had made him look stupid, and worse, she had led him on while begging another man to be her lover.Did she think he had no temper? His anger exploded, and he roared, “Who is more unreasonable between the two of us, Winnie? Your heart belonged to another man, yet instead of letting me know, you deceived me and treated me worse than a fool. And if that wasn’t enough, you even had the nerve to shame me before my entire family. I left the woman who loved me so much for you. You made me lose everything...”Winnie blinked in confusion. She couldn’t understand Friedrich’s accusation, so she mumbled, “When did I lead you on? And when did my heart belong to another man? Where did you get all that nonsense from?”Friedrich sneered. “Don’t try to fool me. I already found out. I saw it with my own eyes—you were begging another man to accept you. You are so pathetic and sh
Friedrich didn’t expect Winnie—the same woman who had once drooled over him and begged for his affection and attention—to say such words. If she wasn’t crazy, then what else could she be?He shook his head and decided not to bother with her anymore. Doing so would only ruin his mood. He stayed quiet and walked into the bathroom to take a shower, while Winnie went into the sitting room to watch a movie. After he finished showering, Friedrich came downstairs and headed straight for the door.“Where do you think you are going?” Winnie asked with a frown.Friedrich sneered. “Who are you to ask me that? You’d better get lost. I don’t want you around. Seeing you on that couch annoys me and frays my nerves. The sooner you leave, the better.”Winnie’s eyes widened in shock. She hadn’t expected to be scolded—scolded so harshly to her face—by a man who had always fawned over her. Whenever she showed up, he would flatter her and give her all his attention. Before she could even recover from the
Friedrich watched with cold face as Amy and Mark sat down, ready to eat breakfast."Cousin come and join us, I was the one who personally prepared this breakfast, while Amy assist me" Mark said with a smile.Friedrich's face fell, annoyed he turned around and walked away, he couldn't bear to watch their two having breakfast like couple. He staggered dumbly towards his parked car, his mood solemn and filled with complication, he got into his car and then drove home. When he got to his house, he lay on the chair and then pondered seriously, the more he did, the more annoyed he became."Damn it! I can't let Mark have, Amy, I still love her..." Friedrich muttered, and then paced around. His eyes suddenly lit up as he immediately came up with an idea, he made a call to Mark."Since you are in the city, why don't you come over to my house, I am going to host you" Friedrich said.Mark agreed at the other end "I will call you when I am free"Then Friedrich heard the beeping sounds, he relaxed
Lala retorted, “I’m not going with you.”She hung up, set her phone down, and John was shocked. He called her back many times, but she didn’t answer.Frustrated, he got out of his car and walked to her door. He rang the doorbell several times, but she refused to open it.He sneered, “Even if you hi
John stood there, unsure of what to do or say. He took a few steps toward the door, then pulled his foot back and turned to walk to his parked car.He sat inside without moving. After a few minutes, he started the engine and drove recklessly home. When he arrived, he dashed to Philip’s room, but Ph
Lala was so heartbroken that she couldn’t stand the taunting. She turned around and tried to run back into the house. But John reached out and grabbed her arm, stopping her from rushing to the door. She spun toward him, her face twisted with anger, her lips trembling, her eyes bloodshot. At the top
When Lala heard this, she staggered back in shock. She stared at John with wide eyes; her chest tightened, and she couldn't breathe. Tears brimmed in her eyes.In pain, she roared at John, her voice shaking. “You’re lying to me?”John sneered at her. “I’m not lying. You’re just too stupid to see th
