I grab the file from the floor and escape through the glass window on the wall. By the time the guards barge into the documents room, I am gone like the wind. Thankfully, no one caught my sight, but I could only get one file. Still, it was enough. As the siren turns off, the silence once again envelops the area. I stand at the window, peeking at the main building through binoculars. The guards are leaving, following Mrs. Amina. Despite hearing the loud siren, no one stepped out of the dorm. Either everyone is too strict with rules or they simply trust the guards. After almost two hours of dead silence, I sneak out of my room and head to the huge wall surrounding the entire academy. Scanning the woods around me, my feet climb the wall and jump on the other side. “You okay?” Victor whispers. I nod my head and pass him the file. “Just one?” His eyes go wide. “A siren buzzed up and the guards barged into the room. Luckily, I escaped.” “Fine! I'll hand this over to Toby but try to get all the files before next week. Amina has appointed someone from the pack to redesign the documents room next Saturday.” “We don't have much time, Aria!” He rests his palm on my shoulder. A breath slips free of my lips. “Also, take this.” He slides his palm from my shoulder and passes me a burner phone. “Call or text me with this phone.” The Wolves Academy is in the middle of the woods, isolated from everything. There's no network and technologies that require screens don't work because of the huge trees blocking signals from all four directions. Amina is protecting her students from getting distracted by the outside world. “Will this phone work?” “I have fitted a small network tower near the woods, but only this phone will connect to that network.” “Wow! You're incredible!” “What other shady things have you been doing behind Lozark Aylestone?” “Well, I am just an old man with many talents. These shady things earn me a good sum to support my old age.” A smirk comes across his face, proud. “No wonder your enemies wanted to kill you years ago.” He coughs, throwing the smirk off his face. “Now, go back to your room.” He clenches the file tightly in his grip. *** The next morning… I am lost in the long hallways. Well, I know all the important rooms, but I forgot to pay attention to the classrooms. Moreover, the students are pretty rude, ignoring me as if I am a ghost walking among them. “Excuse me…” A student doesn't even let me finish and walks away. “Will you please tell me where section A is?” “Ask someone else!” A girl walks past me, bumping into my shoulder. *God! What's wrong with everyone?* Each one of them is ignoring me, and I can't see Ezek anywhere. He was the only one who talked to me nicely. *Hunting down a wolf is much easier than talking to students here!* I see a group of girls near the stairs, chatting and laughing. My feet walk over to them, drawing their attention. “Excuse me?” “Yes?” The blonde in the middle responds. “Ehm…Could you please tell me where Section A is? I'm getting late for my first class.” They pass each other a glance. “Of course, sweetie.” She comes closer to me and wraps her arm around my shoulders. *Finally! Someone sane.* “What’s your name?” She asks politely. “Hailey Randle.” “Randle…Ah! The adopted girl.” I am slightly taken aback. That's the name the academy chose for me. Wow! Just wow! “Come, let me take you to your class.” My steps quietly follow her and her friends. Ascending the stairs and then going down the long hallway, they pause at a left turn. “That's your class, sweetie.” “Thank you so much for your help.” She smiles, crossing her arms over her chest. Leaving them behind, I enter the class, and my heart drops to my stomach seeing the sight before me. It's not a classroom but a private restroom for athletes. Half of them are walking around shirtless while the others are in towels. “Well…What do we have here?” One of them shouts, and all the heads turn to me. I instantly turn to the door to escape but it’s locked. My ears can hear the giggling of those girls from outside. *Shit! What the hell!* In a blink, whispers fill the room. “What? You were craving bodies?” Someone speaks from the crowd. “The door is locked. The girls outside fooled me with the direction.” I answer, keeping my gaze on the knob, my back facing them. “This isn't the first time a girl tried this. You must have told your friends to play the trick to get our attention, didn't you?” “We're bored hearing the same story over and over again that someone tricked me.” *It seems those girls have done the same thing with others. Now, these boys think I'm the villain, playing a trick.* Suddenly, a heavy palm on my shoulder turns me around and aggressively pins me against the door. He has evil dark eyes. “Keep your excuses to yourself.” He whispers. “Get your hand off my shoulder!” I order. “Why? You don't want this?” He chuckles. If I want I can handle them all alone and even break the door with a single punch, but Victor told me to act weak and not to attract unnecessary attention. “This is all a misunderstanding, please.” My voice requests. He moves his lips closer to my neck and sniffs the skin around my neck. His warm breathing touching my skin stirs doubts in me. “W-What are you doing?” He looks into my eyes again, undressing me with his gaze. “Have you found your mate?” I stay quiet, closing my fingers into a fist. “It seems you don't have one yet. How about I take you right here in front of everyone?” “Don't you dare…” “What can you do?” He slides his hand from my shoulder and places his fingers inches above my cleavage. “This is going to be fun.”ARIA“Not happy to see me?” He raises his brows. It takes all of my strength to calm myself. The bitter rage is crawling within my skin but I don't dare to provoke him, not here, not among so many powerful wolves. The bartender rests a glass of orange juice on the counter, passing me a soft glance, he shifts his gaze to him, then quickly turns to a group of men asking for whiskey, avoiding Rizz Sylvester's presence for his own good.“What do you want?” I ask.“Got any update?” He steps closer.Three days ago, he assigned me a dreadful task to determine the progress of Jay's search for his real mother or he would hurt Ella. His intense gaze goes deeper into my eyes as he moves his face inches closer. The air presses on my shoulders, tension rising.Though calm, his eyes are holding a blaze that can ruin everything. “I have information.” My lips speak.“Good.” The corner of his mouth curls.“Jay found out that his mother is with one of the enemy packs but he doesn't know which one.”“I
ARIAAs we come back to the academy in the morning, he stands against the door, blocking my path, looking into my eyes.“Did something happen last night?”“Huh? What do you mean?” I drop my gaze to the floor, avoiding meeting his eyes.“Look at me, Hailey.” He mutters softly. My stubborn gaze remains on the floor.“I found myself on the couch. You aren't talking to me except for yes and no. What happened last night?” He grabs my arm, pulling me closer to his firm chest. My gaze at last looks into his eyes.“Tell me, please.”“You were sleepwalking.” My lips say it.He slowly releases my arm.“Did I do anything wrong?” *Yeah. You kissed my cheek.* My mind screams the words but my voice stays silent. The truth would only make things awkward and complicated between us.Moreover, Jay already has someone he likes. The orange button in his ring belongs to her.“You didn't do anything wrong. You just fell asleep on the couch.” “HAILEY.” A voice calls my name.Ella runs over to me and holds
ARIAShe inhales a deep breath and says…“Raven Aylestone.” The name is unknown, a mystery, never heard before, not even from a hunter.“Do you know anything else?” “Mother never allowed me to step outside my bedroom. She would sit with him alone in the living room and discuss things for hours.” “I did overhear them sometimes.” “He has a deep voice. Doesn't speak much.”“Many wolves don't speak a lot. Say something that can actually help us.” Jay slightly raises his voice, intimidating and powerful.Tessa shrinks under the weight of his voice.“Stop. Don't scare her.” I turn my head to him.He holds back his rage, clenching his jaws.“What else, Tessa?” “Whenever he came to our house, he wore a black hoodie with an eagle logo. I never saw his face but I know he is evil.”“We need to search the boys' dorms for a black hoodie with an eagle logo.” Words come out of my mouth as my gaze turns to Jay.“Leave that to me.” He assures.“You two should stay here tonight. It's already very
ARIAAs we arrive at Victor's house, he opens the door and takes a step back, horrified. I didn't tell him beforehand about Jay Manchester. He grabs my arm and drags me to a corner.“Why is he with you?” “Did he find out your identity?”“Is he threatening you or something?”“Are we dying?”“Victor, stop it.” My lips whisper back.He gulps, glancing at him. While we are standing in the corner, Jay is slowly taking in the details of the cozy interior.“Jay is helping me find the Alpha's son. Don't you remember?” “Right. I remember.” He wipes off the sweat from his forehead.“Why did you bring him here?” “Jonathan Manchester wants me to get engaged to his son. He thinks we're mates. I had dinner with him tonight. Lozark Aylestone also paid us a visit.”“What?” He is shaken to the core.Suddenly, his eyes narrowed on my neck.“Aria, what is this?” “Did he mark you?” He gets furious.“Ehm…This is fake.” His forehead crumples up.“We're just making everyone believe in the academy that
ARIAAs he tightens his grip on the steering wheel, his palm turns red, and the engine roars. He shifts his gaze to the front and drives off the car at over 120.The car races against the wind, chasing the empty wet road, drenched after heavy rain. The speed only goes up, driving to the sky.“Will you please slow down?” He doesn't listen and keeps on driving.“Jay. I am talking to you.”My fingers clutch the seatbelt as tightly as they can, holding myself to the seat. It almost feels like a rollercoaster ride. The sound of the wheels scratching the road sends a shiver down my spine. Even a sports car wouldn't do that. With our fast speed, no other cars or transport are near our range. They are behind, way too behind, looking like ants. The veins stretch against his arms, revealing them through his skin. I am just shocked, stunned, and so many things.“Why are you doing this?”He suddenly stops the car with a forced break near an abandoned hill. As the engine falls to silence, a breat
ARIA “No, I can't take it off.”“Why?” His eyes sharpen.“This bracelet means a lot to me. Even if it's hurting, I won't take it off.” My wrist pulls away from his grip and hides behind my waist.“As you wish.” He forces a smile. The jade bracelet is the only thing protecting my scent. Without it, I am a hunter with a different scent.“Your real parents must be rich.”“Huh? What?” “The jade bracelet is an expensive one. You'll rarely see anyone wearing it except for the wolves in the pack house.”“Really?” “Your bracelet is different. It has more designs than a normal jade bracelet.”“Maybe the bracelet is special…”“No, not at all.” My voice interrupts him.“I have been wearing the bracelet since childhood and it never did anything special.”Jay Manchester is a clever one. The more we talk about the bracelet, he will only get suspicious about my identity.“Let's talk about the red ruby.”“What about it?” He raises a brow.“We searched Ralix's room last night after everyone else le
