Diana's POV

“He's not dead?” I asked, and the doctor shook his head.

That was something. It was not good news but it wasn't bad either.

“And how long will he remain in that state?” I asked, pinching my fingernails with the other.

“I don't know. Weeks. Maybe days or…”

“Or what?” I asked, blinking and gulped as his lips moved.

“For a long time.”

I felt my mind blow apart. A heavy drum beat in my ears.

I stepped back and stumbled, the strength leaving my legs, and I fell.

The doctor caught me. “Are you okay?”

I nodded, not understanding anything.

“Breathe,” he instructed. “Slowly. That's it.”

I followed his instructions, holding his arm tight. “Is he ever going to recover?”

The doctor looked sad. “Honestly,” he said gently, like he was scared I would lose consciousness. “There's every possibility that he will make it.”

He was probably telling me that so I didn't lose my mind.

“Do you believe in miracles?” He asked.

I was lost for a couple of seconds then nodded.

“That's good. If you keep your faith then he'll be better in no time.”

This wasn't the sermon I needed. I wanted my father to open his eyes and get out of that bed, instead of looking lifeless.

I nodded numbly.

The doctor helped me to a chair. I stayed motionless as he walked away, and then everything went round.

I only snapped out of it when my phone rang. It was the butler, Sam.

His voice brought trouble with every pitch. “Diana. Come home immediately!”

“What's wrong?”

“Dear, get here! You'll know.”

I dashed out of there and drove home in a daze.

When I arrived, I was shocked to see a car missing from the driveway.

I got into the house and Sam briefed me that my mother and my own husband had absconded.

I stood there, shocked, refusing to believe it. I ran into the rooms searching, but they were empty.

Their clothes were gone. I ran to my room. It was a disaster. My clothes were scattered and the jewelry box was missing.

“No, he didn't,” I mumbled and started searching the closet. “Son of a bitch! Coward!” I cursed.

I dialed his number on my phone. The automated voice spoke, “Sorry. The number you called is not reachable. Your call will be forwarded to voicemail.”

I hung up, cursing relentlessly and felt my head pound.

Everything started to swirl faster and I grabbed the wall for support.

My panting turned heavy, as I struggled to control my breathing.

My phone beeped. I checked it and saw that I had an email.

I ignored it. It was of no use to me now.

My phone rang again, and again until I lost my cool. I hissed, picked it up, ready to shout at whoever it was when I heard the familiar voice of the general manager of my dad's company.

“Miss, where are you? I have been calling for ages?”

I ran my hand in my hair, and scratched nervously. “I…I…Uhm… I was busy. What's the matter?”

“Well,” he started. The tone of his voice dropped and I knew it was bad news. “Did you sell the company?”

“What?!” I gasped, shocked. “Why would I do that?”

“I have no idea. The higher ups just informed me that the company was sold and the new owner will be visiting in an hour.”

I was dazed, struck with a sudden deafness. “Richard?” I called. “Tell me you're lying?”

“Why would I lie about this? Everyone's getting ready. The Director just got fired.”

“He what?”

“Got fired,” he finished. “Everyone's scared and the board members already started sharing their shares.”

I swallowed again, my throat feeling dry. “Hold on a sec.”

I scrolled to the Internet and checked the business news. “Oh God,” I grunted. He was right.

“I'm guessing, you saw the news,” he said. “I have to go.”

“I…I'll be right there,” I said, but the line was already dead.

“Jason!” I screamed. “I'll kill you, I swear.”

I grabbed my keys, rushed past Sam and put the door. I got downstairs and got into my car, driving like a maniac to the headquarters.

I rushed in, but the security guard blocked my path.

“What are you doing?”

One of them looked at me sadly. "I'm sorry, Ma'am. It's orders from the new boss."

"What new boss?!" I bellowed and tried to get back in, but I was pushed out gently. The guard blocked the glass door.

My temper flew high. “This is my father's company and I want to get inside, right now!”

At that moment, a sleek black car parked at the curb. A well-dressed man in a sharp black suit got out and headed to the door.

The wavy curls rested on his head perfectly. His left hand pushed into his pocket.

His face was covered in a black mask. He looked at me for a second, his gaze piercing, and then faced the company door.

The security greeted him, "Welcome, Mr. Xavier."

I gritted my teeth. This was my father's legacy not his.

“Hey!” I shouted at him. He turned to look at me and for a second I could swear his eyes held a bit of recognition then it disappeared.

“I don't know who the fuck you think you are but this is my company!”

He didn't say a word and then returned his gaze to the bodyguards. “Don't let her in.”

What? Did he order them to keep me out in my presence?

“Yes, sir,” they answered.

I stared at him in awe. He walked into the company, pretending I didn't exist.

“Hey!” I ran to the door and the guards blocked me.

“Miss, please leave!”

I didn't move and pushed harder. They lost their patience, and pushed me out. I fell, landing hard on my butt.

I got back into my car and called my lawyer. “I need your help.”

His voice turned stern. “How can I help?”

Dad had arrived with me and was taking out the grocery bags from the car's trunk.I called again, louder this time. “Mom!!!”But the house remained still.I walked forward to check the living room but it was empty, and even the kitchen was devoid of life.I walked up the stairs and called for her again, but instead of her voice, a low moan drifted through the hallway. “Oh, yes. Harder!”I paused.I assumed it was my parents, so I hurriedly turned around to climb back down the stairs. That's when I heard it. Mom moaned a name that stopped me cold. “Oh, Julian.”Hold on a damn minute! My father was in my car and his name was Mark. There was no reason for her to be calling Julian's name in that tone.I shook my head and tried to refuse the idea but it wouldn't go away.Who the hell was in there with her?My mother moaned louder and I heard the dis
