The first invocate only had enough time to widen his eyes before my sword struck him.

It was a surprise attack and I succeeded with the surprise part.

He held his sword in his hand, but he didn’t get the chance to raise it to guard himself before I slashed.

I cut downwards from his shoulder to his waist. He immediately fell forward from the intense pain. He would be dead in a few moments if not instantly from the shock.

I had no qualms about not giving the invocate a fair fight. I knew what their intentions were with the pack close by and I knew what they usually did. They were going to attack the pack with the same tactic of surprise. And they would show no mercy, when the church exterminated a ‘group of unholy creatures', they went all the way.

The first invocate fell without any fight whatsoever.

I kept a mental count silently.

One down, seven more to go.

Of course a few of the other invocates were already on the ground, but they were neither dead nor incapacitated.

"Morning." I called out as Morning walked out of her previous hiding place in the bushes to meet with me."So it's over." She said.I glanced around what was now a battlefield. The bodies of the invocates littered the ground. It would be right to at least burn their bodies without just leaving them here. But time was very crucial."Not quite." I replied.Morning nodded. Her gaze also left our current position and moved to the distant forest around. But her expression hadn't changed much from when I saw her newly coming out of hiding.I frowned and wondered what was up with her. I thought about asking her directly but I held back. Now wasn't the time for something like that. There were much more important things going on at the moment."Are you alright?" I asked instead.Morning turned back to me. "Oh. Yeah." She said.I examined her body with my eyes. My eyes dilated as I saw her left hand. There was a thorn up cloth around it and I could clearly see blood around it. She had been ble

"Stop there!" The hunters screamed from behind me. There was a grin on my face as I ran forward. The wind rushed past my face and my heart raced. I had to admit that I was having fun! An arrow shot through the air and rushed past my face. It was close but it missed. Oh! I thought. That was really close. I immediately took a turn to the left. The hunters followed. I was leading them by the nose. One of them held a bow and he notched another arrow. He had only gotten the chance to shoot out two of them throughout the entire chase. It was harder than it looked to fire arrows mid run. I wasn't even running at my full speed. I knew that I would leave them in the dust if I did that. And I had instructions from Phoenix so I wasn't going to do that. I heard faint sounds coming from deeper in the forest. It was too faint for me to actually decipher what I was hearing, but I had a good idea of what was going on. That was because of Kerrigan! We had a connection and even over a distan

I drew my sword out of his neck and a spray of blood followed. My boots got unavoidably stained by it. But my facial expression was solemn. I was neither sad nor angry about the event.I looked around the battle ground. All the invocates were dead now. We had won. And neither Kerrigan, Orlaith or I had a single scratch on us. The plan had worked out perfectly and it was a flawless victory.Sol knew that we needed more wins like this. Honestly, it had been awhile since things went in our favor this well. But I wasn't overjoyed even with the good turnout of events.I looked back to what was now the dead body of the last invocate. The one I had killed last. When I had him dead to rights, I decided that it would be more beneficial to interrogate him. It was something that I couldn't do earlier because we were outnumbered.I obviously couldn't focus on trying to capture an invocate when we were outnumbered that much. Trying to be non lethal was a lot harder than just being lethal. If I wa

I ran past the ambush point and a feeling of anticipation crowded my heart. I was able to slow down and stop not to far away. I could have stopped in the clearing but I knew better than to do that. The last thing I wanted to do was to hinder Phoenix's ambush.I was able to get a very good vantage point to watch the entire fight. I stood behind a tree very close by and I watched. I kept my distance through out the fight to avoid being a distraction. The entire fight was very interesting to watch to say the least. I couldn't look away for a single second. At first I had been worried that Phoenix might be in trouble. I wondered whether I would be able to step in and help if it came to that. I had my own personal doubts about that. I knew that I would definitely try no matter what, but actually succeeding was another case. Even with my recent 'success' against a hunter I still didn't overestimate myself. So at first I watched with anxiety, hoping that nothing bad happened. But bad things

The invocates turned back in horror at the roar. A large beast stood at its full height behind them. Well over ten feet tall. They had been guarded for another surprise attack, but Orlaith didn’t need to surprise them. They had seen him clearly even before he attacked but that wasn’t going to help them in the slightest. I had already destabilized them with the ambush. Kerrigan and I had taken down three of their teammates within a few moments. They had not just been attacked physically, but mentally too. And Orlaith was the last straw that broke the camel's back in this case. The giant bear was a huge monster that they wouldn’t take lightly on a normal day. And now they had to face him after loosing almost half of their forces. They were in their worst mental state. The invocates stared at Orlaith with wide eyes as he roared. Their weapons were held up as guard, but I could easily tell that their grips were weak. With Orlaith, the ambush was fully sprung. We had already
