I patiently watched the invocates in front of me.I had already told Oisin to head back. Unlike his sister, he wasn’t very useful in a straight physical fight. I wasn’t sure why he didn’t also cast magic but I had never asked, I just took somethings as they were. Besides, I believed that he would have told me if I needed to know. The invocates had formed a defensive formation because Oisin. Had been pestering them. That was a bad thing for the ambush. Because as long as they were that alert, we wouldn’t able to surprise attack them. That meant that we would immediately loose the only advantage we had and we would be clearly outnumbered in the fight. They were seven invocates and the hooded man wasn’t in the group. Once again, most of them were one star but their numbers still gave them a strong advantage.I knew that we could win if I attack even while they were in formation. But I also knew that the fight wouldn’t be as pretty as pretty as the previous one.In the last fight, no
Kerrigan had been leading us forward steadily in the forest. Suddenly he squawked and flew into the air.I didn’t need to speak bird to understand what the eagle was saying. We had arrived at our location and Oisin was right ahead. Most likely that almost meant that more hunters were just in front.I clenched my fist and sharp pain shot up my arm. I bore the pain quietly because I had inflicted it upon myself purposely. That was my punishment for being so useless.I had time to think about the hunter I killed on our journey to find Oisin.I had been avoiding thinking of him for sometime, mostly because I feared that when I searched my heart I might find some guilt there. And that guilt would be the ultimate betrayal. Because I wouldn’t just be betraying myself by feeling bad for the evil people that I hated so much, I would also be betraying my mother and even my father. The hunters had destroyed both their lives, one indirectly and the other very directly. But when I thought ab
Morning, Orlaith and I moved forward through the forest. We had been mostly following Kerrigan who was flying above us, but I still watched what was going on on the ground. I obviously couldn’t neglect that even if we had eyes in the sky.We had been going at a steady pace earlier. Morning was walking beside me but we didn’t talk. Then Kerrigan increased his flying speed suddenly. There was no need to even ask what had happened. I was well aware of the mindlink between Kerrigan and Oisin. That meant that Oisin had sent Kerrigan a message that made him pick up the pace. Of course, Kerrigan could fly much faster but he still had to deal with us. We were slowing him down by tagging along.Once Morning and I saw Kerrigan’s change of pace, our brisk walk became a jog. We had to speed up to also keep up with Kerrigan. I had been somewhat tired after the fight with the first group of invocates was done, but it took me no time at all to regain my stamina. So I had a lot of restless en
I turned back again.I had slowed my pace drastically, but the men behind me had done the same.Things were no longer fun.In fact, this was actually bad. That’s because we were already stopping the chase and we were still far from the ambush point. The hunters were no longer allowing me to lead them by the nose.“Let’s stop here. This doesn’t feel right.” One of the hunters said. He was running at the head of the team so he might have been the leader. Once he suggested that they stop running, the others listened to him. They all stopped running abruptly. The only person that looked a little sultry about stopping was the arrow guy. I guessed he didn’t enjoy how he missed me every time.I glanced back and noticed all of that in a split second. But when I turned back forward, I didn’t stop running. Instead I ran ahead and hid behind some trees and shrubs just in front. My smaller body allowed me to hide well. I spied on the hunters from my new vantage point.Even though the last t
"Morning." I called out as Morning walked out of her previous hiding place in the bushes to meet with me."So it's over." She said.I glanced around what was now a battlefield. The bodies of the invocates littered the ground. It would be right to at least burn their bodies without just leaving them here. But time was very crucial."Not quite." I replied.Morning nodded. Her gaze also left our current position and moved to the distant forest around. But her expression hadn't changed much from when I saw her newly coming out of hiding.I frowned and wondered what was up with her. I thought about asking her directly but I held back. Now wasn't the time for something like that. There were much more important things going on at the moment."Are you alright?" I asked instead.Morning turned back to me. "Oh. Yeah." She said.I examined her body with my eyes. My eyes dilated as I saw her left hand. There was a thorn up cloth around it and I could clearly see blood around it. She had been ble
"Stop there!" The hunters screamed from behind me. There was a grin on my face as I ran forward. The wind rushed past my face and my heart raced. I had to admit that I was having fun! An arrow shot through the air and rushed past my face. It was close but it missed. Oh! I thought. That was really close. I immediately took a turn to the left. The hunters followed. I was leading them by the nose. One of them held a bow and he notched another arrow. He had only gotten the chance to shoot out two of them throughout the entire chase. It was harder than it looked to fire arrows mid run. I wasn't even running at my full speed. I knew that I would leave them in the dust if I did that. And I had instructions from Phoenix so I wasn't going to do that. I heard faint sounds coming from deeper in the forest. It was too faint for me to actually decipher what I was hearing, but I had a good idea of what was going on. That was because of Kerrigan! We had a connection and even over a distan
