Nighttime finally fell like I had been waiting for. The group lay down to sleep. I waited and listened. It was easy to tell if someone was awake just by listening to their breathing. It was something unconscious for people to breathe differently when they are awake or sleeping.

I listened carefully for every single breath to change. I didn’t want anyone to follow me. And I also particularly knew how alert some of them could be. Especially Phoenix.

Phoenix was the last to fall asleep. I waited ten while minutes after I was sure he was asleep. He was the person I wanted to follow me the least. That was because I also knew I wanted him to follow me the most.

I snuck out of the camp, making sure to be extra careful with the traces I left. I had gotten a free hunting lesson from Phoenix awhile ago and I still remember it. I knew he was a good tracker and on the off chance that he eventually woke up, he would be able to track me easily if I wasn’t extra careful.

“Morning? Is that you?” I asked the giant wolf as it turned to me.But the only reply I got was a free showcasing of its impressive canines.I wondered whether Morning was the wolf in front of me. But how would that be possible? It didn’t make much sense because she told me she was never going through shift again.I was well aware of the fact that she couldn’t control her wolf form because of her anger. So she could accidentally turn when she was angry. But there was no reason for her to be angry now. She had left the group on her own and she should no signs of anger at all before then. Why would she run away to shift in the middle of the night. It made no sense. But I knew that wolves from her pack had tried to execute her. Was it possible that she sniffed out one of them and came out to attack them.“What did you do with Morning?” I asked the wolf.It wasn’t unsurprising that it didn’t give me a reply. Wolves couldn’t really talk, although they could understand human speech

I stared at the empty spot on the ground for a few more seconds.Where could she have gone? The usual explanations came to my mind. Maybe she went out for some private time to herself. But I felt that there was something wrong about this absence. It felt different.I remembered how restless she had been almost through out our journey. And of course the multiple times she cried out in pain from some inexplicable thing happening to her.The only time she had calmed down was when she was riding with me and she held me tightly.I stood up from the ground. I was going to find her. When we rode here I took her clinginess and calmness as a sign that she must have been over whatever was happening to her. But in retrospect there was another way to interpret something like that. You held tightly to an object with sentimental value before you tossed it aside forever.I didn’t want to follow the thoughts in my mind to their natural conclusion. Besides, I tried convinced myself that she must have

As soon as I got on my horse, Morning wrapped her arms around meContact with her always gave me a certain sensation that was hard to describe. But it was very pleasant. Especially in moments like this. I enjoyed it a lot. That was why I told her that she didn’t have to hold me yet. When I didn’t get any reply I knew that she simply wanted to hold me of her own volition. That brought a smile to my lips.Morning had been keeping things from me lately, and she had also been pulling away from me. I already began to fear the worst, but with this it seemed like everything would be okay. Maybe I made the right choice by deciding to trust Morning with her secret. If she wasn’t going to tell me, then I believed that she would be able to handle it ourselves. We began riding. Everyone was able to keep up easily. Carter and even surprisingly Oisin on his own horse. Rowena rode Orlaith while Kerrigan flew above us in the skies. We managed to cover so much more distance at our new pace. The speed

I was in something of a daze while Phoenix carried me away to see the horses. Before I knew it, he instructed me to ride one.The novelty of the event was able to distract me for some time.Horse riding turned out to be a lot harder than I even expected it to be. The beasts were a lot feistier than they needed to be. I was even a little scared that it would attack me at some point. After a few attempts to control the direction, I eventually fell off the horse. That was when Phoenix and I laughed together. It was genuine laughter from me and it felt so good to share a moment like that with Phoenix. When did things turn away from moments like that?Phoenix found a way to handle all three horses by himself. I got to sit behind him.He advised that I wrap my arms around him to stay steady. After riding a horse myself, I knew exactly what he was talking about. I wrapped my arms around him. His body felt so warm. I realized just how much I missed touching him like this. I let go of myself

“Sorry, I don’t have any horses for sale. Please leave my stables.”I raised an eyebrow at the horse monger’s words. It was clear that he had horses for sale. In fact, I caught a snippet of conversation between him and the people who had run away. He was discussing a sale earlier. It was all a roundabout way to get us to leave.“Fine. But you will change your mind in a moment.” I told him.“Sorry again, but I won’t be changing any-.”The horse monger stopped mid sentence as I brought our my bag of coins. The coins shook and clinked with their weight, drawing his eyes. Although they were behind a bag, he could tell just how much it may be.“I want three horses. Good breeds that can ride hard for days.” I told him.The horse monger nodded. Even though he didn’t like us, money spoke volumes. I had to thank Dekle for leaving me some money at least.“I have three horses I know you’ll like. Sturdy, for the right price, they will be yours.”The horse monger was definitely very enthusiastic a
