"Where is my drink, sweetheart?" I asked.

I had to change my voice so nobody would know who I was.

"I got it right here, Mommy!" Zuberi Blackthorne said. He handed me the cold can with a huge smile.

He looked so beautiful in his little blue clothes. His long eyelashes looked like a doll, and all the women walking around the Ravenmoor International Gateway stopped to stare at him. They were all wondering how a kid could look so pretty. Then they looked at my face and gasped.

I was wearing a big, ugly mask that made my nose look totally flat and my skin full of brown spots. I looked like the ugliest wolf in the whole Ravenmoor Moon City.

"Mommy," Zuberi whispered as we walked through the big crowd. "How long do you have to wear that super ugly thing on your face? It makes me sad."

"Are you saying your mommy is ugly, baby?" I teased him, keeping my eyes on the big glass walls.

"No way!" He shook his head fast. "I just think it feels hot. You are the prettiest alpha queen ever. I just don't want you to feel stuffy."

I smiled under the fake skin. He did not know that his older brother, Tavon Blackthorne, looked just like him. Zuberi always thought he was the least cute one, so he never dared to say mean things about how I looked.

The other wolves around us were whispering. They thought it was crazy that a super ugly mother had such a handsome little pup.

I did not care what they thought. I looked out at the huge territory of our old pack. It had been five long years since my sister tried to burn me alive. Five years since I ran away into the dark woods.

I am finally back, I thought. And I am going to make everyone pay for what they did to my little family.

Suddenly, a tiny body hit my legs.

Oof!

A little girl stumbled and fell right onto the hard floor. I dropped my bags and knelt down fast to pick her up.

"Are you okay, little one?" I asked, checking her tiny arms. "Did you hurt your paws?"

Amara Blackthorne opened her big eyes and stared right into my face. She did not cry at all. Her nose twitched like she was smelling my scent.

"M... Mommy..." she whispered.

"Hey! No way!" Zuberi yelled, pulling my arm. He looked super jealous. "You cannot just call her that! She is my mommy, not yours! Go find your own!"

But the little girl did not listen to him. She threw her small arms around my neck and held on with all her power. She was shaking so much, like she was scared I would vanish if she let go.

Zuberi looked like he wanted to cry from jealousy. I gave him a sharp look, so he just stood there and drank his water super fast to stay quiet.

"Did you get lost from your pack?" I asked the little girl softly. "Where is your family? I can help you find your home."

She shook her head back and forth really fast. She looked so worried.

I felt so bad for her. I rubbed her soft cheek with my thumb. "Do not be scared. I am a good wolf. I will help you."

This little five-year-old girl had never made a sound in her whole life. The Blackthorne Bloodmoon Pack had tried everything to make her talk, but she never did. But the second she smelled my wolf scent, her heart felt safe. She wanted to stay with me forever.

"Mom... Mommy..." she said again, her voice very small.

I was totally shocked. Before I could say anything, a big shadow fell over us.

"Thank the Moon Goddess!" a man shouted.

It was Magnus Wraith, a high guard from the Blackthorne pack. He looked like he had been running for hours. If he lost the King's little girl, Supreme Alpha Idris would have ended his life right there.

He saw me holding her and stepped forward to grab her away. But then he stopped dead in his tracks because he heard her tiny voice.

"Mommy..." Amara babbled, pointing her small finger right at my spotted face.

Magnus looked like he saw a ghost. He dropped to his knees and grabbed her shoulder.

"What did you just say?" Magnus gasped, his voice shaking. "Say that again, little princess!"

Amara just kept pointing at me. "Mom... Mommy..."

Magnus looked up at my fake, ugly face. He looked totally confused and angry.

"What did you do to her?" he barked at me. "Who are you?"

"Are you her father?" I snapped back, standing up straight. My inner wolf growled a little. "How dare you yell at me when you lost your own pup in a huge transit hub! You should take better care of her. She must be so sad if she is calling a stranger her mother!"

Magnus blinked his eyes fast. "She called you her mother?"

"Are you deaf?" I rolled my eyes at him. "She did not say it to the walls!"

Magnus could not even speak for a minute. He had to look at the girl three times to believe it.

"I am not her dad," Magnus said, lowering his voice so the other wolves wouldn't hear pack business. "I am Magnus Wraith, a protector for the Blackthorne Bloodmoon Pack. I am only shocked because this little girl has been mute since the day she was born. She has never spoken a single word to anyone until now."

My heart squeezed tight inside my chest. I looked down at the poor little thing.

"Can we trust this man, Amara?" I asked her.

The tiny girl gave a small nod.

"Is he really part of your pack?"

She nodded again.

"Then you have to go home with him now," I said, giving her head one last gentle pat. "Be a good girl."

I turned around, grabbed Zuberi's hand, and walked away fast into the crowd before anyone else from the Blackthorne pack could see us.

Magnus stood there watching us go. He wanted to run after me and ask how she spoke, but then he looked down at the little girl's face.

Amara's big eyes were totally full of hot tears, and she was crying completely silently as she watched me disappear.

Zuberi Blackthorne"Wait, do not cry. Where are your parents? If you are lost, they must be tearing the pack apart looking for you."I look down at the small girl, her face a mask of adorable distress. The sudden rush of protectiveness catches me off guard; usually, I don't give a damn about anything that isn't pack business."I... I... want... Zanele...""Zanele?" I frown, my mind racing. "You mean the Moonborn Alpha Queen? You are miles from her villa, little one. How do you expect to find her wandering the Silverclaw Quarter alone?"She tugs at my sleeve, her eyes wide and wet."I can take you to her, but you have to stop this whimpering. I have enough trouble with my own brother without adding a lost cub to the mix. My older brother, Tavon, already treats me like a nuisance. I don't need you making it worse."She gazes at me, and that simple, sweet smile of hers hits me hard. It’s like a spell. I feel my usual cold, sarcastic exterior cracking."Fine. You must be famished. Let's g

Zanele OkaforInside the darkened interior of the luxury transport, my head leans against the cool glass, my vision swimming with the blur of the passing cityscape."Boss, the man back there... his aura was suffocating. Was that really Idris Blackthorne?""It is him," I murmur, my voice devoid of warmth. "The Alpha of the Bloodmoon Pack, and the master of the Blackthorne Citadel."Kieran lets out a shaky breath, his hands gripping the steering wheel tight enough to leave indentations in the leather. "The most powerful bloodline in the Moon City? I knew his presence was heavy, but the way he looked at you... I thought he was going to snap my spine just for standing near you.""Do not worry, Kieran. You are too formidable for a beast like him to simply crush.""Boss, why did you claim I was your mate? Is he the same one who forced himself on you at the bar?"My throat tightens, the memory of his lips on mine flashing through my mind like a jagged blade. I stare out the window, the neon

Zanele Okafor"Boss, your lips... they look like they’ve been through a war. Which mongrel did this to you? Tell me his name, and I’ll tear his throat out right here in the shadow of the Moonfang clan!""Kieran, pull yourself together. The matter is settled."Magnus Wraith stands beside Kieran, his gaze shifting to me with a silent, calculating stillness. He does not ask questions, but the way his fingers hover near his blade tells me he knows exactly whose scent clings to my skin."Settled?" Kieran’s voice rises, a growl building in his chest. "I’ll track the cur down. I’ll make sure he never walks on two legs again, let alone—""I said it is over, Kieran," I snap, my voice cutting through the humid night air.Magnus places a steadying hand on Kieran’s shoulder, his eyes meeting mine for a fraction of a second. "She said it is handled. Let it go."Kieran forces a breath, his nostrils flaring, the wolf inside him clearly straining against his skin. He is a loyal pup, but his rage is a

Zanele Okafor"Get out!"Idris Blackthorne’s voice is a low, guttural snarl that vibrates through the very floorboards of the Blackthorne Bloodmoon Citadel. I am pressed against his chest, my heart hammering like a trapped bird, the scent of his skin—sharp pine and damp earth—overwhelming my senses."But, Brother, I just wanted to see who—""I will not say it again, Jabari. Leave."Jabari Kane retreats, his eyes flicking from Idris to me with a predatory grin before he slams the door shut. The silence that follows is thick, heavy with the weight of our shared history and the dangerous heat currently binding us together.I shove against his shoulders, my muscles straining with every ounce of my strength. "Let me go, you arrogant Alpha! You have no right to hold me."Idris doesn't budge. He stares down at me, his golden eyes narrowing, his grip tightening. "You barged into my private chambers. You crawled onto my furs. And you kissed me, Zanele, with a hunger that tells me you wanted ev

Idris Blackthorne"Ten million? You possess the spine to barter for more?" Idris’s golden eyes flare with a primal, suffocating heat as he looms over the mahogany desk in the Blackthorne Pack Manor. He grips his mobile device, his knuckles turning white, his breathing hitching."It is my price, Alpha.""You are truly willing to vanish for a mere ten million? If your hunger is for pack resources, I would lay the entire Blackthorne legacy at your feet. I would surrender every inch of this territory to you. But you speak to me of contracts and silences?""I signed the pack-bond agreement, Idris. The blood-seal is dry. I cannot break a contract witnessed by your own mate.""Do not test my temper, Zanele. You belong to me, not to some pathetic piece of parchment."I disconnect the call, my hand trembling as I slam the device onto the table. I shove it into flight mode, the silence of the Mooncrest Villa pressing in on me like a burial shroud. He smells of power, of ancient blood and deceit

"Ten million?" Ayomide’s jaw drops, her eyes wide with a mix of fury and disbelief. "You possess the audacity to demand a higher tribute?""So, is Idris Blackthorne not worth ten million to your pack?" I pull the ribbon from the yellow folder, my movements languid and unbothered. "If your pockets are too shallow, I shall simply remain in Idris’s shadow. My spotted pelt may lack your pristine, pampered beauty, but who can say? Perhaps his primal side hungers for something... different.""You..."Ayomide views me as an infection, a blemish on the pack's elite skin. With my face masked in these thick, dirt-colored spots, I am nothing but a common, unrefined mongrel in her eyes. Aside from my burning, round eyes, I am plain, yet I am the first female to ever carve a permanent scar into Idris’s cold, unreachable heart. The fact that I bear the name Zanele—the same name as her own blood—is a curse she cannot wash away."Very well." Ayomide’s knuckles whiten, her teeth gritted in a snarl. "T
