“Ronan, how did you..” Selene’s words hitched. She spun around fast, her bare feet sliding a little on the smooth floor.

On her dresser sat a pack of wet wipes. She snatched one out and wiped her sticky fingers clean, her hands shaking the whole time. She shivered hard when her eyes landed on Ronan standing there, tall and angry in the middle of her room.

Ronan took one slow step forward. His jaw tightened until the muscles stood out like ropes under his skin.

“Start talking!” he yelled. The

  • MY STEP BROTHER, MY RUIN   CHAPTER 148: GODDAM SAVIOUR

JUNE;I let out a short, throaty laugh that scraped my throat. I did not care who heard it or if the passersby were looking. Mary and Matthew both stared at me as if I was completely losing my mind. Maybe I was. The whole shape of my life suddenly felt like something written for someone else… a story full of planted kindness, scripted actions, and hidden cameras and fathers who sent strangers to watch their own daughters for unknown reasons.“So,” I managed, the word tasting bitter. “The sneakers. Lifting me that first day when everyone was laughing. All of it was staged?”I was fighting hard not to believe the one kind gesture that brought us close was also part of the script he was playing. But Matthew’s face tightened. “I already told you, June. I’m sorry. Deeply.” He reached toward my hand.I raised my own hand between us, palm out. “Don’t.”I looked at Mary. She was on her feet now too, arms wrapped around herself. Pity moved through me when I saw how lean she looked now, but th

  • MY STEP BROTHER, MY RUIN   CHAPTER 147: FAKE STUDENT

JUNE;We all sat down again under the white tent. Our glasses of soft drinks sat before us like mere decorations. For a moment I almost believed Matthew had only used the word “evidence” to get me here and that nothing real existed. Then he reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone, his eyes darkened as he unlocked it. The playful softness from earlier was gone, his fingers trembled slightly around the gadget while he tapped the screen. When he held the phone out to me, his throat moved once in a hard swallow.I looked at him, then at Mary, like I would need some emotional support to even take the phone from him. Neither of them spoke. Every instinct told me not to take the phone but Matthew nudged it closer. I finally closed my fingers around it.The video was already playing. The sound was low; I couldn't catch every word, but I didn't need to. Ronan stood in a bedroom I had never seen. Natalie lay across the bed in a transparent red lingerie set, one knee bent, she was sa

JUNE;I lifted the metal cover. My eyes widened at once. Words had been written across the white plate in thick red ketchup.“I’m sorry, June.” I read the words slowly. The cover still in my hand, I looked up. Matthew was no longer in his chair. He was kneeling on the grass in front of me, shoulders rounded, eyes lowered like a child who had been caught stealing some candies.“What’s this?” I asked. My voice came out softer than I wanted. “I mean, I can read the words. But what are they for?” I demanded.“For everything,” he said. “For the lies. For putting you in awkward situations. For coming between you and your best friend.”I let out a short, disbelieving breath. Anger rose slowly and steadily under my ribs, but I fought hard to keep it in place.“You think smearing ketchup on a plate will undo all that you've done? And now you’re still trying to ruin Ronan’s name when you clearly have nothing real to show me.” I snapped.I stood up so fast the chair moved backward. The metal cov

  • MY STEP BROTHER, MY RUIN   CHAPTER 145: COVERED PLATE

JUNE;Matthew was already there when I reached the park's lower level. He sat under a white tent at the far end, a little apart from the main paths. A few people walked by with dogs or strollers, but the place was still quiet compared to the crowds that usually filled it in the evenings. He stood the moment he saw me coming down the open staircase. I walked toward him, heart beating hard against my ribs, and my fingers locked tight around the strap of my bag. Every step forced the same question through my head: should I even be here after everything that had just happened at the station? I had heard Ronan and his father in the parking lot. Ronan had spoken about the first night with Natalie, about blackmail, about the truck. At one point, it sounded like he was about to say more, but then his eyes found mine and the rest of the words disappeared. That silence still sat in my chest like a heavy stone. Maybe he really was hiding his continued affair with Natalie. The thought of it m

  • MY STEP BROTHER, MY RUIN   CHAPTER 144: AT THE PARK

JUNE;I sat in the backseat of the cab, the city sliding past the window in dull colors as I headed toward the park. Everything kept replaying behind my eyes… Ronan’s voice cracking in that hall, the way he had looked at his father, Natalie standing there with bubble gum and that same calm smile even as the truth came out. She had never been random. I had never thought that in my wildest imagination that this lady had something with Victor Grayson. The knowledge unsettled me even more. It explained too many things at once and still left the worst image untouched: Ronan with her. I tried to tell myself it might have happened under pressure, under blackmail, under whatever hold she had kept on that family, but the argument felt weak even within me. He had fucked the heck out of that woman and still painted words in my face. My hand grabbed the seat under me a little too tight.Every time I closed my eyes I still imagined him between her thighs, shoving his dick into her. The same di

RONAN;“Son, we could talk about that at home,” he said, looking sideways at the people passing by. “No, Dad. I want answers now…. I want to know how I got into all of this.” My chest thumped as I kept my eyes fixed on him. Dad let out a long breath and finally stepped back. His hands dropped from my shoulders. His eyes went pale, phone buzzed in his hand but he silenced it at once. He looked back at my face and swallowed hard.“She was never supposed to come near you,” he said. “That part is on me.”I waited. Behind him I could still sense June and her mother standing a few paces away, but I kept my eyes on Dad’s face.“After your mother died, Natalie reached out, we reconnected. I wanted a mother figure for you as well,” he continued. “So, I gave her… audience.”“Reconnected?” I asked, bewildered. “Yes, Ronan,” He answered. “She had been… around in the old days. Not the woman I was with when you were eight… that was someone else I tried to ease the pain your mother’s action infli

JUNE.I was already having a bad day by the time I got home. No, before I got home. It started the moment I stepped out of that hall. The laughter still rang in my ears, sharp and loud, like it had followed me all the way out of the school gates. Even now, sitting at the back of the sleek black SUV

JUNE.My phone buzzed in my hand.Mom.Again.I stared at the screen for a second before answering. “I’m still in line,” I said softly, almost whispering.“June,” her voice came through, soft but tight, like she was trying not to panic. “You said it wouldn’t take long. Your stepfather will be here

JUNE. Warm water still clung to my skin as I stepped out of the shower. The bathroom was nothing like the one I was used to. I grabbed a towel, wrapping it tightly around my body, my mind drifted back to an hour ago. How was it possible? The worst person I had met in school, was my step-brother

  • MY STEP BROTHER, MY RUIN   CHAPTER 003: PAIN AND FLAMES

RONAN.I couldn't believe it. I almost couldn't believe Dad was thinking about wife-ing that lady he met just a few months ago. The thought had kept me up most nights. He had broken the news like it was something I should jubilate over. Was he expecting me to applaud him after I had seen how much
