Chapter 9

Maeve POV

“Maeve,” a voice called, shaking her awake. Maeve turned around, opening her eyes.

“It’s time,” the voice said again. She looked up at the guards, nodding her head. She sat up, and she saw Maya, the beta, Felix, and Ario with a few guards. Maya looked like she had cried her eyes out, but Maeve ignored it.

“You need to change into comfortable attire,” Ario said, pointing to the guard who was holding clothes.

“I don’t want it,” she said, standing up but immediately falling back down. Her legs were sore from sleeping in that position for hours; even her back hurt. She closed her eyes, expecting to hit the floor because she didn’t fall. The guards held her hand, preventing the fall. A low growl left Ario as he looked at the hands of the guards, but not everyone noticed as Maya burst into loud tears.

“She can’t even stand on her own,” she cried. Maeve stood up straight, stretching, still ignoring the crying woman.

“Where is my sword?” she asked.

“Here,” a guard said, giving
