LOGINCarmine’s POV
“What’s wrong, grandpa?” I asked the moment I stepped inside his office.
There were papers scattered on grandpa’s desk and even on the floor. The distressed look on their faces already tells me that something isn’t right.
“Sylus Crivello, he keeps on meddling with our business again.”
Sylus Crivello is none other than my family’s and every other businessman’s ultimate enemy and competitor. He is also an infamous mafia boss as what my father and grandpa always say, probably also the reason why no one dares to go against him.
“What did he do this time?” I asked.
“He probably noticed that our company is starting to be more successful again, so he started sabotaging us again. If this continues, our company will probably go into vain,” dad said.
“That can’t happen. We should never let that happen, grandpa. We gave our blood, sweat, and tears for this company. We need to do something. We need to think of a strategy, so he would finally stop messing with us.”
“You are right, Carmine. Actually, we asked Leo to investigate about Sylus Crivello.”
“What? Then what did you gather?”
“Read that,” dad said as he handed me a folder with papers inside.
I read the paper and realized it was all about the mafia boss’ personal life.
“That man is good at keeping his personal life to himself, that’s why we didn’t get that much information. All that we found is the fact that he has a wife,” grandpa started explaining.
I put the folder down and looked at them, “That man has a wife?”
“And they also have a child named Natalia who is already five years old. Sylus loves his child so much that he sends ten bodyguards to guard her at the kindergarten whenever he’s not around.
I nodded my head, “I can’t imagine him being a good father to that child. I mean, he obviously killed a lot of people already. How can he even face his wife and his child without feeling so guilty? Or maybe his wife also knows about what he does aside from sabotaging other successful companies.”
“His wife used to be the one managing his company, so he could focus on being a mafia boss. But then one day, while she was on her way home, the plane that she was riding crashed.”
“W-What? S-So, his wife is already dead?”
“More likely so. But for Sylus, he still believes that his wife is still alive somewhere. He still orders his men to look for every possible place where she could be.”
“I see. So, what are we planning to do now regarding our company?”
Grandpa leaned on his swivel chair then looked directly at me, “You know this company is all we have right now. Your great great grandfather built this empire through his blood, sweat, and tears and so we cannot just let some bastard put all of his efforts into waste.”
“I know that, grandpa. That’s what I also think about, that is why I will do everything to save our company no matter what happens. Wait, don’t tell me you’re planning on killing that mafia boss?” I said while looking skeptically at them.
“It’s far impossible to do that, Carmine. Sylus is a mafia boss and for sure, it would also be impossible for us to go even near him. He would be able to kill us before we even had the chance to attack.”
“Then what are we going to do, grandpa? Can you think of any other solution?”
“We need your help, Carmine.”
I blinked a few times, “W-What? I mean, of course. What can I do? You know I will do everything for the company.”
“Exactly. That is also the reason why you are the only choice I have to be the next director of our company. You are smart, independent, and reliable. You’ve already proven yourself for so many times, Carmine. But this time, this company only have you as its only hope.”
My heart was beating so fast as I listened to my grandfather, “G-Grandpa, I don’t understand what you’re saying. C-Can you explain it?”
“Take a look at those photos, Carmine.”
I looked at the photos scattered on my grandpa’s desk. “W-Why are my photos here? W-Wait, who is this woman I am with and why is my hair short? I don’t remember having short hair. And why am I with that mafia—
“That is not you, Carmine. That is Sylus Crivello’s wife, Charlotte Greene.”
My eyes widened, “W-What?! H-How can she look exactly like me? I-Is that even possible?”
“That was exactly our reaction too upon seeing her photos. She looks exactly like you, that is why we also wanted to investigate whether she is related to us, but it’s still impossible to do that since no one has found her yet.”
“A-And what are we going to do with that information? Don’t tell me—
“You are going to pretend as Sylus Crivello’s missing wife, Charlotte Greene.”
“W-What?! N-No way! There is no way I would agree on pretending as that bastard’s missing wife!”
Dad heaved a sigh as he walked towards me and patted me on my shoulders, “You already said that you will do everything for our company, right? This is now your chance to prove that you deserve to be the next director, Carmine.”
“But dad—
“You won’t have to worry about anything, Carmine. We have planned this for quite a long time and we will make sure he wouldn’t find us out,” grandpa added.
“How sure are you? That man is a beast. For sure he would be able to find out in no time!”
“He would be able to find out if you give him a reason to be skeptical. That is why we are going to prepare for it. We need to know everything about Charlotte Greene first. But first, we just need your consent. We want to ask you if you’re willing to do it for the company.”
The clock ticked past 2 AM. The suite was quiet, except for the soft hum of Sylus's laptop in the office room. I was lying in bed, pretending to sleep, but my eyes were fixed on the door. Finally, the office door opened. Sylus came out, looking exhausted but focused. He headed straight to the bathroom without looking at me. I heard the sound of water running, then the rustle of clothes. Sylus came out of the bathroom, wearing just a towel around his waist. He walked to the closet, his back to me. I decided to try talking to him. "Sylus?" I said, my voice soft. He didn't turn around. "Hmm?" he replied, his tone neutral. I sat up in bed, feeling a spark of frustration. "Can we talk?" I asked. Sylus pulled on a pair of sweatpants, still not looking at me. "Not now, Charlotte. I'm tired." I felt a sting. He was still avoiding me. I lay back down, trying to process things. But I wasn't going to let it go that easily. A few minutes passed. Sylus got into bed, careful not
Carmine's POVI let out a deep sigh as soon as Sylus stepped out of our room. I still can't forget what he just told me. He said he was really suspicious of me. He even told me we would go back to my doctor to ask about the things that he is being suspicious about. Now I have to think of a better excuse for him not to go to a different doctor. If he does that, for sure I'm doomed."How did he find out about you going to a bar?" Luke asked me over the phone. Ever since he found out about my plan and real motive, Luke Greene became the one I always call whenever Sylus does something that would make him find out about my plan."He surely hired a private investigator for it. He is a mafia boss, it's not impossible for him to do that.""You're right. Then you have to be extra careful. Sylus is smart, and he always wants to get what he wants. Make sure you never let your guard down."I nodded my head as if Luke could actually see me. "I understand.""Also, you have to delete every conversa
I leaned back in my chair, sipping my coffee as I watched Charlotte walk into the dining hall. She looked like a ray of sunshine, her smile bright and carefree. But I knew better. I knew she was hiding something.I'd been suspicious for a while, but I couldn't quite put my finger on it. That was until I got the call from the private investigator I'd hired to dig into Charlotte's whereabouts for the past few weeks. I learned she always go to this apartment where an old lady resides at. But it was the phone that really caught my attention. The one she claimed she lost at the restaurant where they celebrated their parents' anniversary. I had my doubts, so I asked my assistant to check the restaurant's CCTV footage. And what I found out was that Charlotte didn't even lose her phone there.I felt a pang of disappointment, mixed with curiosity. What was she hiding? And why?I decided to dig deeper, to see if I could find any leads on where she might have actually lost the phone. I asked my
I woke up to an empty bed, the sheets beside me cold and rumpled. I sat up, rubbing my eyes, and looked around the room. No sign of Sylus. I wondered where he could be. I got out of bed and quickly got dressed, deciding to grab some breakfast downstairs. Maybe Sylus was waiting for me in the dining hall. As I walked into the hotel's dining hall, I spotted Sylus sitting at a table by the window, talking to someone on his phone. He glanced up, saw me, and his expression turned cold. He looked away, focusing back on his conversation. I felt a pang of confusion. What was wrong? I walked over to the buffet, grabbing some pastries and coffee, trying to look nonchalant. As I made my way to the table, Sylus ended his call and looked up at me. His eyes were guarded, and he didn't smile like he usually did. "Morning," I said, trying to sound cheerful as I sat down across from him. Sylus nodded, his expression neutral. "Morning." The tension was palpable, and I didn't like it. What
The sun was shining bright as we stepped out of the hotel, the warm breeze carrying the sweet scent of orange blossoms through the streets of Madrid. Sylus smiled, his eyes sparkling with amusement, as he took my hand."Today, we're going to play tourist," he said, his voice low and husky. "What do you want to see first?"I grinned, trying to sound excited. "How about the Royal Palace?"Sylus nodded, leading me towards the palace. As we walked, he pointed out various landmarks and shared stories about the city's history. I listened intently, fascinated by the rich culture and heritage of Madrid. We strolled through the Plaza Mayor, admiring the stunning architecture and vibrant street performers. Sylus pulled me close, his arm around my waist, as we watched a group of musicians playing traditional Spanish music. The sound of the guitar and the passionate voices of the singers transported me to a different era. I felt like I was part of the performance, the music swelling up inside me.
I wore a white formal dress and tied my hair up for my meeting with Mr. Hermano. Sylus smiled at me as soon as I stepped out of our hotel room. "I wouldn't think twice on hurting Mr. Hermano if he ever tries to hit on you because of how fucking hot you look in that dress of yours," he said, looking me up and down. "You always say that." "Because it's the truth, babe. You look good in everything you wear. You look better without wearing anything, though," he whispered, grinning at me. I rolled my eyes at him. "We have to go now. Mr. Hermano must be waiting for us already." Sylus chuckled before he finally opened the car door and guided me inside. *** "Remember not to be so nervous, babe. You're going to crush it with Mr. Hermano," Sylus said to me when we reached the company building. I smiled, trying to play it cool. "Thanks, I'm feeling pretty confident," I said, trying to sound casual. Sylus chuckled, wrapping his arms around me. "I know you are, babe. That's why
