LOGINAfter the bankruptcy of their company, Carmine Clark had no choice but to do the most risky thing that she could do--to pretend as the wife of the enemy of their family and the notorious mafia boss named Maxwell Crivello.

“Working again? It’s already late, you know. You should at least know how to take some rest,” my childhood best friend, Kyle Sterling said to me over the phone.
I didn’t take my eyes off my laptop as I answered him, “I don’t have time to rest when our company is clearly going down. I have to work extra hard so grandpa would be proud of me and assign me as the new director of Clarke Financial Group.”
“I mean, you are the only grandchild he has so of course, you’re the only option.”
“Not really. You know my cousin Portia right? I heard she’s also working extra just so she could be the next director of the company. It’s not like I will let her do that. I didn’t study hard and worked my ass of all my life just so she could steal my dream like that.”
Kyle chuckled, “That’s the Carmine I know. You don’t really know how to give up.”
“Of course. I would rather die than lose that position. I will do everything for the company.”
“Right. That’s the Carmine Clarke I know.”
After finishing all the tasks that I have to do, I finally decided to leave the company building. It was already past twelve midnight and I could feel my whole body aching probably from overworking myself again.
When I got home, I decided to just cook some instant noodles and fried egg for dinner before going to bed as what I usually do. I moved out from my parents’ house when I graduated in college and started working as the vice president of our company. My grandpa assigned me as the vice president simply because he knew I would do well and so did I. Our company has a good reputation when it comes to business world. We became one of the most successful companies in the world not until an ultimate business competitor of us started taking all of our investors and stakeholders.
I was just about to close my eyes when I suddenly received a call from my mom.
“Hello, Mom?”
“Carmine, someone told me you just left the company building. Have you had dinner already?”
“Yes, I’m now on my bed.”
I heard my mom heave a deep sigh over the phone before speaking again, “Carmine, I know how much you care about our family company, but you should also love yourself. You’re already twenty-five, you’re not getting any younger sweetheart.”
“I know that, mom. I’m not getting any younger that’s why I have to do everything for the company. You also know that it’s my biggest dream, right? I know where this is going again. You’re going to ask me when I will be getting married, right?”
“You are our only daughter, so what would you expect? I still want to see my grandchildren grow up. Also, I want you to find a man who will take care of you and love you until you grow old.”
“Mom, I can take care of myself. I don’t need any other person to take care of me when I grow old.”
“But if you keep on skipping meals and deprive yourself from sleep, then I don’t think you’ll be able to grow old.”
“Fine, mom. When everything finally falls back to its right place, I promise I will go to every blind date you’ll suggest. It’s alright now? Good night, mom. I love you!”
“Honey—
“Bye!”
I leaned on my headboard as I ended the call and placed my phone on the side table.
My mom really has this habit of arranging blind dates for me even back when I was in high school. Probably because she’s too afraid that her one and only daughter would end up growing old alone.
And maybe she’s actually right about that. I don’t mind growing old alone as long as I will be the director of our company. I would rather grow old alone but successful than be with a guy that would only make me his housewife.
Even when I was still in middle school, the only thing that I was looking forward to was to become the next director of our company and the most successful director in the country. I strived so hard and not even once did I fail on being the on the highest rank in our class.
That is why now that I am old enough, I won’t stop working my ass off until I reach the top.
And no one can ever stop me from doing that.
“If we don’t work harder than we already do, the company will go bankrupt and all of us will lose our jobs. I’m sure you don’t want that to happen, so make sure you won’t make a mistake when doing the tasks that I have given you.”
“Yes, Miss Vice President Carmine.”
I nodded my head, “Alright. All of you now may leave and proceed to your work.”
As soon as they all left the conference room, I leaned on my swivel chair and started massaging my temples. Just when I am too close to getting what I want that the company suddenly started going downhill.
I was about to eat the lunch that my mom packed for me when I suddenly received a call from my dad, telling me to go to my grandfather’s office.
I immediately closed the lunchbox and stood up. I could feel my heart beating so fast as I started walking towards grandpa’s office. It was as if something bad was going to happen.
The dimly lit hallway of the mansion seemed to stretch on forever, the shadows dancing on the walls like specters of my guilt. It was 4:30 AM, the city still shrouded in the dark veil of night, the only sound the distant hum of the city outside the windows. I stood frozen, my heart heavy with the weight of what I was about to do. I took a deep breath, trying to calm the storm raging inside me. This was part of the plan, I reminded myself. Get in, get the info, and get out. But it wasn't that simple anymore. The lines between Charlotte and Carmine had blurred, like the edges of a watercolor painting left out in the rain. I looked into the bedroom where Sylus and Natalia were sleeping. Sylus' arm was wrapped around his pillow, like he was holding onto something precious, his chest rising and falling with each gentle breath. Natalia was curled up with her favorite stuffed animal, a tiny smile on her face, her eyelids fluttering with a dream. I felt a pang in my chest, like a violin str
The autumn sun cast a golden glow over New York City as Sylus suggested a family outing with Natalia. "Let's spend the day in Central Park," he said, his voice low and smooth, like the jazz playing in the background.I felt a pang in my chest, a quiet ache that I'd been trying to ignore. This was it. Soon, I'd have to leave. But for now, I wanted to savor this day, to bottle it up and keep it forever. We walked through the Upper East Side streets, the trees lining the sidewalk like sentinels, their leaves rustling in the gentle breeze. Natalia skipped ahead, her laughter carrying on the wind, as she chased after a squirrel that was trying to steal a pretzel from a street vendor. As we entered the park, Sylus took my hand, his fingers intertwining with mine like they belonged there. Like we were a real couple, a real family. I felt a flutter in my chest, a tiny spark of hope that I quickly tamped down. This wasn't real, I reminded myself. It was just a job, a means to an end.We stroll
"Thank you for taking care of me when I got sick," Luke said to me as he handed me a cup of iced coffee. He went to the company to return the jacket that I have forgotten at his pad. I shook my head and smiled at him. "It's alright. If you don't feel really well, just call me. I can take care of you." "Oh, so you are a nurse now?" "Well, I won't say that I'm good at it, but I think I was able to take care of you." He nodded his head and smiled, "You're right. If you didn't stay that night, for sure my fever would've gotten worse." "It's nothing. By the way, thanks for the coffee." "Alright. By the way, where is Sylus?" he suddenly asked. "He is in a meeting right now." "I see. By the way, how's your family's company? Is it doing alright now?" I nodded my head as I put the cup of coffee down. "It's doing really fine now. My dad is already asking me to go back to my normal life as Carmine, but I don't think I can just leave whenever I want." Luke stared at me for
I felt a flutter in my chest as Sylus's eyes locked onto mine, his gaze burning with intensity. "Fine," I said. "But if I am late for work, you're the one to blame." Sylus chuckled, his eyes sparkling with amusement. "I'll take the risk then," he said, his voice low and husky. I could feel my hands shaking as I reached out and wrapped my hand around his shaft. It was soft and warm, and I could feel it twitching in my hand as I began to stroke it gently. Sylus's eyes closed, his head tilting back as I worked my hand up and down his length. I felt a surge of power, knowing that I was the one making him feel that way. "Use your mouth," he suddenly whispered, his voice barely audible. I was hesitating at first, but then I leaned forward, my lips brushing against the head of his shaft. It was soft and smooth, and I could taste the saltiness of his skin. I licked my lips, trying to gather my courage. I never did this with anyone before, and I still can't believe I am doing t
I woke up to an empty bed, the sheets beside me cold and rumpled. I sat up, rubbing my eyes, and looked around the room. No sign of Sylus. I wondered where he could be. I got out of bed and quickly got dressed, deciding to grab some breakfast downstairs. Maybe Sylus was waiting for me in the dini
The sun was shining bright as we stepped out of the hotel, the warm breeze carrying the sweet scent of orange blossoms through the streets of Madrid. Sylus smiled, his eyes sparkling with amusement, as he took my hand."Today, we're going to play tourist," he said, his voice low and husky. "What do
I wore a white formal dress and tied my hair up for my meeting with Mr. Hermano. Sylus smiled at me as soon as I stepped out of our hotel room. "I wouldn't think twice on hurting Mr. Hermano if he ever tries to hit on you because of how fucking hot you look in that dress of yours," he said, look
I leaned back in my chair, sipping my coffee as I watched Charlotte walk into the dining hall. She looked like a ray of sunshine, her smile bright and carefree. But I knew better. I knew she was hiding something.I'd been suspicious for a while, but I couldn't quite put my finger on it. That was un
