Chapter 31

MARINA

So, this is what it’s like to have your own space and freedom? I thought as I walked around the empty house.

With my mother being gone, it was just me now. It was peaceful.

It was the weekend, and I didn’t have any classes, so I slept in as much as I wanted. Normally, I would be up early in the morning to make her breakfast, then clean and dust the entire house until it was spotless.

No more.

When I woke up, the first thing I did was pack some of her things into a box. Then I made some calls to her sister to make arrangements for the funeral. I’m assuming it wouldn’t be an open casket with all those wounds on her body.

I was hungry during the midafternoon, so I started to cook some spaghetti while humming my favorite Disney tune. I was in heaven.

The phone started ringing. I took one look and frowned when I saw agent Danna’s number. Dammit…I was having such a nice day!
