Mag-log inCHAPTER 62: CLOSE CALL.Mario dragged a chair and sat in front of the man he shot. He had his eyes on him like a hawk. "Please, let us go. We swear we won't say a word to anyone," one of the girls begged, tearing up. "I said be quiet!" Mario yelled, causing the girls to whimper, jittering fearfully. "I have no business with you, girls. So just be quiet!"The girls nodded, cowering in fear. "Now, you're going to tell me everything I need to know about your boss, Juan Carlos," Mario said to the man on the floor. "My boss? I've got no idea whom you're talking about. I'm my own boss, you punk ass!" he fumed, wincing in pain. "Feigning ignorance, huh?" Mario scoffed. "You want to do this the hard way, don't you?" Mario then aimed again at his other leg. "Wait, wait, wait!" he stretched out his hand, beckoning Mario to refrain from shooting him. "I wasn't feigning ignorance when I said I'm my own boss. I don't work for Juan Carlos. We just did business a few times in the past. That's
CHAPTER 61: A MAN'S WRATH. Sitting inside his car, Mario leaned his head on the headrest, his eyes shut, his fist on the steering wheel, and the other he relaxed on his lap. He pondered deeply for some time. Opening his eyes, he stared at the large building beside him. It was the cathedral where his partner, Peter, and his entire household fellowshipped, attended service as communicant members, and where they were also buried. He was hesitant to go there. Scared even, one would say. It was already getting dark outside. Taking a deep breath and exhaling, he abruptly got out of his car and headed to the back of the cathedral where the graveyard was, a few yards away from the building. As he got there, he found a fragile old man tidying the environment. With his hat on, the old man minded his business. So did Mario. Mario got to his friend's grave. "In loving memory of Peter Hasslehof. Husband, father, brother, and friend." Mario chuckled softly, shaking his head. "
CHAPTER 60: COUPLE OF THE YEAR.LIANA'S POV.Everyone in the tent exclaimed, probably surprised at the strength Trevor displayed. They had gotten out their phones and recorded all that happened right from when Carl confronted me up until this moment."Le- Let me go," Carl struggled to break free. He kicked in the air and struck Trevor's hand with one hand, while he grabbed Trevor's wrist, struggling to break free. Trevor glared at him with such murderous intent in his eyes, not budging."Is that- is that not the new President of the Van Group, Trevor Vanderholt?" Annie asked with skepticism, furrowing her brows, as she held my hand. "Yup! That's my boss," I replied, beaming with pride. His presence dispelled all my fears and concerns. "Wait. Did you just say he's your boss?" Annie's eyes widened as she turned and looked at me. "Yeah. I'm his Executive Assistant, AKA Secretary," I shrugged, pursing my lips as I smiled. "Why the hell did you not start with that when we first met ear
CHAPTER 59: MINE!LIANA'S POV.I had my eyes on the duo - Carl and Vicky- watching them closely as they walked on the pedestrian walkway, heading to the tent. My anger was red-hot, so I forgot about my friend who was beside me. The memory of what happened at the so-called weekend getaway Carl took me to, where I regretfully had a threesome with him and Vicky, replayed in my head like it was just yesterday. Although technically, it happened in the future, two years from this current reality. But having lived it, having experienced such wickedness I never thought was possible from either of them, I couldn't shake off the anger in me. From whence this anger emanated, I honestly couldn't tell. "Liana? Liana? Liana!" I gasped, snapping out of that momentary lapse."Is everything okay?" Annie asked, holding me by the elbow."Sure. Peachy," I faked a smile as I looked at her. When I looked back at the duo, I saw that they spotted me. "Why is Carl looking at you like that? Did you two h
CHAPTER 58: SURPRISE UPON SURPRISE.LIANA'S POV.Back in my hotel room, I had a lot of things going through my head. I was grateful to meet Professor McGregor again. Even though he was dying in silence, he upheld his positive energy. He was one hell of a man. I made up my mind to help him and ensure that he lived - just as I did for Annie. I knew I didn't have the wherewithal to facilitate that goal, but I was determined nevertheless to get it done by any means necessary. But that aside, I was exceptionally worried about the reunion. I wasn't expecting to run into anyone from my past, let alone be in the midst of them. But for the sake of Professor McGregor, I had to be there. Just like me, he didn't want to be there, but if we were to be together, it'd be a little less unnerving. So, my plan on how to get through the night was to be hitched to my professor. I was so concerned about the reunion, dreading it to the point that I found it hard to eat anything. The last thing I ate wa
CHAPTER 57: BACK TO SCHOOL.LIANA'S POV.Looking out the window, I saw that we had entered South Carolina's airspace. Landmarks such as the Grand Canyon were visible. I sighed, grateful that we had finally arrived. I smiled mildly as I looked out the window.Shortly after, we touched down at the airport. "Welcome to South Carolina," the flight attendant said, smiling. 'Home sweet home,' I said to myself. The flight attendant helped me out with my bag. I was grateful to her for the help rendered during and after the flight. From there on, I was on my own. No driver to take me to my desired destination. But it was not a problem. I knew my way around. I lived nearly five years of my life in this state. From the airport, I took a taxi to a hotel near the campus. The cost of the rooms had greatly increased. But there was nothing to worry about. I could handle the cost. Trevor made sure of that. I paid and lodged in one of the rooms. It was the medium-class room- nothing too fancy, e
CHAPTER 30: THE TAKEOVER. LIANA'S POV.Until we got to our destination, I had no idea where we were going. Through the window, I sighted from afar the Vanderholt Tower - headquarters of the Van Group, a multinational conglomerate. It operates a variety of industries, from real estate, to hospital
CHAPTER 29: AT THE BOUTIQUE.RAYA'S POV.As we drove in the car, what occupied my mind was me wondering what Trevor needed me for. I did say I wanted to be useful to him, but I couldn't help but wonder. How fickle our minds can be, huh? When we took the detour to the clothing store, briefly headi
CHAPTER 28: WHAT STRANGE FEELING?T REVOR'S POV.Morgan Baxter was being escorted out of the house soon after he handed me the remaining documents that were faxed. I glared at him as I watched him walk out the door. "I thought your anger toward him would be abated by now, or would have reduced dra
CHAPTER 27: NOW THE WORK BEGINS.TREVOR'S POV.Taking a quick shower after I returned from my morning run, I reminisced on all that had happened. It caused a mild smile to creep up my face. It had been a while since I was in a life-or-death situation. I must say, it was quite exhilarating. The rus
