LOGINFive years Later
Valyne The rain was heavy, clouding any noise or scent that may have left my lips, my heels dug into the mud, my clothes were drenched. With each step I took, I heard them, they were closer, with each breath they seemed to breathe alongside me, the forest parted away for me, like it was alive, guiding me. My legs moved faster than it ever had, with the consciousness that it couldn't be caught, it couldn't stop, it had to persist. The air smelled like rot and decay, debris littered the ground, the air was thick with blood, I forced down the bile that came up my throat still running. Why was I running? Who was after me? The darkness made it difficult to see anything, like an empty endless void. Suddenly I saw a light up ahead, followed by a little whisper, “Run to him little one, time is almost up.” Just then I spotted it up ahead in the distance, Red eyes, glowing in the dark, with lines, familiar lines drawn across its red pupils. Its fur was matted black, it stood proudly on all fours, eyes fixed on me just watching, watching as I ran, escaping whatever it was that was behind me. Just then it let out an earth shattering howl “Mine” “Mum, Mum, we’re late for school. Get up” My eyes blinked open I felt a weight on me, a pair of silver pupils peered straight into mine with a frown etched on its face. “Mum. Get up” the owner grumbled. “Mum?” I wondered, a bit fuzzy. He smacked my head, “Today's our first day of school, don't make us go late, you promised.” The memories hit, “Chase, oh my gosh, I must have overslept.” I picked him off my body, dropping him down before rushing into the shower. “Is your sister ready?” I screamed from behind me, fumbling through the paste. “Yes, we're waiting for you.” He scoffed, I could hear the complaints in his tone. “Give me ten minutes, I'll meet up with you.” I yelled from inside the bathroom. Throwing whatever I could find on, “Kids, let's go,” I yelled rushing to the car parked outside our little apartment. They were already standing besides it, Chase shook his head, glaring at me, “Morning mum.” Chelsea smiled sweetly. “Morning sweetie” I picked her up, placing a kiss on her forehead, “hope you slept well?” I settled her into the back seat, fastening her seat belt. “Yes. Chase woke me early though” she complained. I smiled, picking up my son, “Morning to you cutie” I pinched his cheeks before he could protest. His ears reddened, “I'm not a kid, I can do it myself.” “You'll forever be my baby,” I teased. Sometimes he reminded me of an old man, an adorable old man with a poker face. “You overslept.” he grumbled, folding his arms accusingly. I matched the pedal zooming off, “Sorry sweetie, I overworked.” I sighed, how could I have forgotten the most important day of my babies life. Stopping in front of a kindergarten I turned to face them, “Remember the condition for schooling?” “No powers,” they chorused together. “What if someone bullies us?” Chelsea asked, blinking innocently. I nearly choked on nothing, “No one would dare.” I chuckled, bringing them out. “Mrs Carne,” a cheerful voice called out, “Nice to meet you,” a young lady with her dirty blonde parked in a bun greeted. I smiled widely, “Just Miss” I corrected, “you must be the teacher Rigel spoke about.” Her eyes flicked with surprise which was quickly masked back into a professional look, “yes, Andrea, you can call me Rea, are these Chase and Chelsea, what adorable kids” she cooed at them, Chelsea gave her a smile, Chase ignored her. I handed Chelsea, who was in my arms, over to her, with his hands in his pocket and stood next to her looking every bit like a serious old man. I stifled a laugh. “I trust they're in good hands?” “Yes. Mr Shaw made mention of them being homeschooled, I believe this is their first Schooling experience?” “Yes.” I nodded, I hope you'll keep an eye on them for me. To avoid any unfortunate circumstances.” “You have nothing to be worried about, I'll take good care of them and I'm sure they'll fit right in.” I rolled my eyes mentally, I wasn't worried about them, I was worried about the other kids, should I warn her? Chase may be composed but with Chelsea by his side, no one could tell the kind of chaos they'll cause when together. As if knowing what I was thinking about Chelsea blinked her long lashes, pouting while her silver pupils looked at me innocently. I shook my head, “Stay out of trouble, both of you.” I warned. Chase shrugged, Chelsea smacked her lips and nodded, “of course mummy.” The look in Andrea’s eyes seemed to say, ‘what trouble could these cute kids possibly cause.’ Sigh. Forget it, another soul deceived by cute faces. “Bye babies” I pecked them both before leaving, I had to get to work. “Hey siri, Call Rigel.” Ringggg….. Ringgggg… Click. "Sweetheart, What's up?” His voice came through. “I just dropped them off, I'm on my way now.” “Alright, the clients are waiting, also representatives from Alistair are here.” He added. “Alright, I'm on my way.” I nodded. “Good morning director,” “Good morning boss” “Good morning” Warm greetings rang out as I made my way to the office, Rigel was already waiting outside, “Here you go,” he handed me a mug, closing the door behind him as we entered. “Good morning Rigel,” I slumped into my chair. His brow furrowed as he looked at me over “You look pale.” he noted, “the nightmares?” “It's been five years” the words were quiet, “five persistent years.” I sighed tiredly, I could hear the exhaustion in my own voice. He wrapped his hands in mine, “We’ll find a solution to it, did it say anything else this time around?” “No, same old same old, rain first, mud, smell of decay and rot, blood in the air, then the wolf with red eyes with lines” “Wait— back up.” “Huh?” “red eyes, smell of decay and rot. Those are new.” I sat up instantly, how come I didn't notice?ValyneI stumbled backwards, unable to believe my eyes. I blinked twice to make sure I wasn't seeing things but there he was. Clear as light itself. He closed the distance between us in less than a minute, “Let's continue this inside.” He took the bag off my hands and invited himself in. “Put on your big girl pants Valyne. You can do this.” I calmed myself down before following him in.He sat on the sofa, legs crossed, “Won't offer me water?” “You're not a visitor” I snapped, “you barged into my home. Uninvited”He shrugged, “we can always continue this outside. I'm certain many would be interested in our conversation” I nibbled on my lower lips, “what are you doing here? How did you find me? What do you want?”“Finding where you live isn't an issue. I control half of this city.” he replied.“Fine. What do you want?” He chuckled, then standing he began walking around in slow painful steps, “It's quite amusing you know?” My brow furrowed, “What is?” “You're a spectacular little
ValyneI rushed back to the apartment. I couldn't return home, it wasn't safe. That's the first place he would look. I just destroyed years of hiding. I bit my finger as I paced around the room. What will I do? He would trace it, he would know, mother? Vanessa? Shit. What have I done? How did I let him rile me up so much that I lost control. Finding out he was the same Lycan as the one that visits my dreams had me on edge.My blood boiled in a way it never had, when you have sleepless nights for five years you'd understand why I felt more than just anger. I craved blood, which was weird and wrong in more ways than just one. What do I do now? Do I call mother? If all he had before was just a guess now he would be definitely certain.I have messed up, big time. I would be burned to a stake? I felt tears prick my eyes, I didn't want to be burned to a stake, I didn't want mother suffering for my sake. Things are spiraling beyond my control. Okay wait, hold on. “Calm down Valyne.
Valyne “I don't recall stuttering.” I replied.“I never said you did,” he shrugged.“What is your problem? Why do you keep tackling me?” I finally snapped, unable to hold back.He leaned into his chair, “whoever said I was tackling you? I simply asked a few questions here and there”“Unnecessary questions,” I snarled.“You don't tell me the necessity of my own Questions Miss V.” I groaned, already feeling frustrated, “Did Ophelia put you up to this?” I asked, cause that was the only likely reason why he would be targeting me, “if she did then I'd suggest you let me do my work for your own betterment.” He scoffed, “Do I look like someone that can be manipulated by your sister?” I shrugged, “you never can tell. I won't put it beyond her to send her fiance to fight her battles, that's what she's best at after all. Dirty tricks.” He chuckled in a deep baritone, “Don't flatter yourself, I wouldn't go through such troubles for her, nor you. I merely pointed out things I had issues with
ValyneI felt my blood run cold. That voice. Regaining my composure I turned to the source, then offered a warm smile, “Good morning Mr Alistair. I didn't know you would be gracing us with your presence today.” He raised an eyebrow but leaned forward, hands under his chin in a lazy glance, “Neither did I. But here we are.”My eyes found Cassy, I shot her a glare. The least she could have done was warn me about this grim reaper’s presence. She averted her gaze, looking down guiltily. I shook my head.No wonder the room felt unusually cold. Deciding not to let Evren’s presence affect me, I'd treat him as an interviewer or a strict examiner. “Set up the screen.” I ordered Cassy. She sprung to her feet and rushed to my side, I dropped my Laptop, “I'll be showing you what I came up with for this project. I got all your feedback and it was useful in my work.” “You give us too much credit. Your blue print was way too good.” Kade was the first to speak up“Are you here to present designs
ValyneStanding from the bed I cracked my neck and did some stretches, a dull ache spread across my neck to my back. I must have slept carelessly last night. Grabbing my phone I placed a call across to mother, but as expected, the speaker dinged, followed by the robotic message “Dear customer, the number you've dialed is currently not reachable. Please try again later.” with that the call ended with a beep. Sigh. I tossed the phone to the side, I didn't like this, I was beginning to get worried. I know she said not to worry and that she would be back in no time, but I just couldn't help it. Where could she have gone? I had to know. The least she could do is pick my calls. Let me know if she's still okay, or if anything has happened. “Where are you mother?” ****** Alistair Industry *****The building buzzed with liveliness as I walked in, Cassy had arrived earlier than I did. She most likely was setting things up for the meeting, for some reason I wanted to round up this project
CassyI lay wide awake, still thinking about the day's incident. I hadn't observed those red pupils well enough to identify if it was the one I dreamed of. I can't explain why but every instinct screamed at me to run far away from him, take the kids and disappear, somewhere we would never be found. But how long could I hide? How long could their powers or even mine be hidden before we would be discovered and chased to the very ends of the earth by every species alive? Killed or turned into a tool at the hands of others. Was that really a life I wanted for the twins? To grow up in fear and hiding, both from a power I couldn't control and from everyone around them.I couldn't run, I had to stay and train, become strong enough to ruin anyone who would be a threat to them, become strong enough to let them live freely.I couldn't help thinking back to the flash of red from back in the elevator. What if the man from back then was Erven? It made no sense but at the same time it was a possi
