Zara

"Rude" I mummured.

Judging from the kind of person Alpha Ryan was, it wasn't hard to see that he was a man of pride who didn't beg. He saw begging as a way of being weak and left for me, I was ready to break him until the only thing left for him to do was to beg. I closed my eyes for a bit, thinking back to everything that led to this very moment. A few days ago, I was working my ass off in order to pay up the student loan I was immersed in, just to be sold off by my adoptive parents to one of the most ruthless men there was.

"My life is a joke." I paused, looking at my hands that were shaking on their own accord. Ryan had inflicted so much fear in me that I was finding it hard to even think for myself. There were many things I could do to him but what was the point when all of those things would most likely lead me to my death.

I looked out the window, barricaded so tight, it felt like I was in a supermax prison when ideally, I was in his pack, a fortress built so tight it felt like a cave. One thing I knew here was that, I was never getting here alive and it would take me a miracle to leave here unharmed.

Sinking on the bed, my mind went through so many what if's and moments I knew I could escape if I knew what was coming for me. I was the last living Eserai but now, with this new clause Ryan had drawn up for me, it could very well be my last moments on earth because I sure as hell knew I wouldn't survive whatever amount of blood he wanted to draw out from me.

"Penny for your thoughts?"

My head snapped up when I saw Mira standing by the door, a look in her eyes I couldn't quite comprehend. I hadn't even known when she opened the door and now, it felt like I was looking at an apparition because I didn't expect her to be here.

"What do you want?"

I shouldn't have sounded harsh but who was I kidding? She now saw me as a threat, sent here to take her man even though this place was the last place I wanted to be but here we are.

Shutting the door with a small click, she walked further inside, taking time with her steps even though we both knew she was trying to assert dominance, to prove that she was the lady of the house, Luna and I was... well, nothing but a slave to be used as they pleased.

"What do you want?" I asked again, this time, rising to my feet.

"Calm down... You don't need to be rude. I only came to reintroduce myself properly since, well, we couldn't earlier."

Who was she fooling? There was a mischievous look in her eyes that told me she was far from being a friend. She was here to break me, not with tools but with her words and she was doing a perfect job of that.

"I don't need to know you. You are Ryan's wife, that's all that matters." I snapped, looking away.

At this point, I was already close to tears because I hated being in a situation like this. It made me feel weak, like I had no hope of getting out of here and it pissed me badly.

"Ryan's Luna," she corrected.

"Isn't that the same thing?" I asked, my eyes not leaving her.

She chuckled, leaning on the wall, as her eyes trained on me. It just felt like she was trying to read me, to understand me even though I had no idea why.

I shrugged, giving up because if they wanted to kill me, they could as well do it now. I was tired of this, tired of the way they treated me like it was a taboo and a wonder to behold all at the same time.

"You know the reason why you are here."

She didn't pose it as a question so I didn't see the need to answer her so I simply kept quiet, watching her every move.

"Answer me when I speak to you!" she barked.

I hated that I jumped in fright because it just felt like I was scared of her, but at that moment, what she did caught me completely off guard and so, my reaction was completely understandable but not to her. To her, she felt like she owned me.

"Yes," I simply said.

"Good and then you know that you would do everything you are being told to do without questions and that includes feeding Sinclair with your blood when he needs you," she said, coming closer.

I squared up, staring at her as if challenging her to a fight. I saw a flicker in her eyes, just barely noticeable before it was quickly replaced by her stoic expression.

"Yes," I said, again.

"Good. Then we have no problems. But I must warn you, if you fail to carry out your responsibilities, if you even hesitate to, I will put you to death and Ryan wouldn't know."

She smiled frostily, enjoying every bit of this and I knew she was, giving the twinkle that now appeared in her eyes. Her jet black hair, which fell loosely by her side made her look every bit of the witch she was. Though strikingly beautiful, I knew her heart was anything but beautiful.

"Do what you are supposed to do and we will have no problems," she smiled.

Without another word, she walked out of the room, giving me one final look of warning before shutting the door, this time with a loud bang.

I sank on the bed, holding, my head in my hands because now, I was faced with an impossible task, feeding the very person that I knew deep down was responsible for the near extinction of my kind. We had a long history, that much was certain and if i dug deeper, deeper than the lies and facade i was made to believe, Ryan and his family wouldn't be far.

Now here, under his watch and order, I knew I needed to do everything possible to avenge my parents and make him pay for everything he had made me pass through and in that moment, I knew just where to begin- with the very thing he craved, my blood.

  • Marked by the Alpha   Chapter 9

RyanThe first time I drew blood from Zara was an experience I would never forget in a hurry. I had been blinded by a rage I knew all too well simply because of what had happened before then. Zara should never have seen that room, she should never have seen that body for any reason at all and now but that maid, the maid who had taken her to the room would pay very dearly. My fangs bared as her body shook violently, an act I knew all too well simply because this wasn't my first rodeo. I had done this before, more times than I could count but when it came to her, there was something about her I couldn't quite place. There was an urgency in me to protect her, to shield her from something I wasn't yet sure about and it pained me everyday not knowing what that was."Please..." she begged, using the last strength in her to utter those words. Now that I had drunk to my fill, I was more than satisfied that this was exactly what I needed. Her, here with me to do as i wished."Bitch!" I snapped.

ZaraThe first sound I heard was something out of this world. It was unholy, ungodly and everything I didn't even want to think of. The girl, the maid who had brought me in here was nowhere to be found. She had vanished like she was not here which was surprising because she seemed to be very much interested in whatever was going on.I gripped Ryan's hands tightly, not even caring if I was holding the hands of an Alpha that everyone so much admired. I just didn't want to believe that everything I was experiencing at that moment was real.""She's dead... How? How come?" I muttered. The fabric shifted again and this time, with some urgency, like whoever was underneath it wanted to pass a message, and could only do this through this means."Get away!" Ryan barked.I didn't need to be told twice, I ran to a far corner of the room, making sure I wasn't anywhere close to whatever was happening. This had to be one of the most insane things I had ever experienced in my life and observing it di

  • Marked by the Alpha   Chapter 7

RyanThe moment the sheet settled back over the body, something in the room shifted so subtly that most people would have missed it entirely, but I felt it the way one feels a storm before it breaks, deep and unsettling, like the air itself had grown heavier with the weight of something that had no business waking, and even though Zara was the one standing there, pale and shaken from what she had just uncovered, I knew with absolute certainty that whatever had been disturbed in this place would not concern her alone, because this room, this secret, had always been tied to me in ways I had spent years trying to bury beneath control and silence.I knew exactly where she was.Not because anyone had told me, and not because I had followed her footsteps like a mindless guard, but because there were certain places within this pack that never truly let go of me, places that lingered at the edge of my awareness no matter how far I tried to distance myself from them, and the moment she stepped

  • Marked by the Alpha   Chapter 6

ZaraMira walked into the office, closing the door with a soft click that was even worse than outrightly slamming it. The way she stared at me, not Ryan, was murderous, one I would never forget in a hurry. It just felt like she was taking her sweet time to enact the revenge I knew she badly wanted to unleash but in that moment, the one thing I would never allow them to do to me was to become a punching bag, or a place they could dump all of their trauma. I might not really have a voice here but I damn sure knew I could put up a fight and no one would blame me for it.I rose to my feet, walking around Ryan who by that time already had a mischievous smirk on his face. It just felt like he enjoyed everything he was doing, like he was taking pride in the fact that he could easily manipulate and break me."What the fuck is going on?" Mira said in the calmest voice ever. Now, she was very close to the table and looking at her, this up close was enough to tell me that she wasn't messing arou

ZaraI heard them before I saw them. Two of his men appeared at the doorway of the common room — both tall, both built like they'd been made specifically to block exits. They didn't rush in. They didn't have to. One of them just let his eyes find me across the room like it hadn't even been a search, like he'd known exactly where I'd be, and then he said it."Alpha Ryan wants you.""Now."The room went still. Not quiet but still. The kind of still where everyone stops pretending they weren't listening. I wasn't going to give anyone the satisfaction of seeing me hurry.I followed them down the corridor that led to the east wing and kept my chin level the whole way. Behind me I heard someone whisper something and someone else hush them, I didn't turn around. The walk was long and neither of the men spoke. Their footsteps were heavy and even and they walked slightly ahead of me, close enough that it was clear I was being escorted, far enough that it didn't look like dragging. When we rea
