Kael’s POV

The night was edgy.

I felt an uneasy feeling deep inside me. The scent of blood and dust still lingered in the air. I drew a sharp breath; it smelled of victory. I smiled in satisfaction. I had spent hours tracking rogues that had crossed the border. We matched on dry leaves, stepping on the blood of dead rogues. The forest was quiet now, the rest of the rogues had gone into hiding.

Raze, my wolf paced inside me, restless. “What's that scent?” he growled.

I ignored him and kept walking. The moon was at its peak today, shining through the trees, brightly lighting the ground just enough for us to see our parts. I kept walking towards a certain direction, searching- but not for rogues. A strange force kept pulling me, beckoning me to move farther.

Then I saw her.

I drew out my sword, pointing it at her. I thought she was one of the rogues who fled to hiding. She lay there, motionless under a tree. She was stained with blood and dirt. Her hair spilt across the ground in tangled waves of thick curls, spread out around her.

I hovered above her.

She was breathing. But it was faint.

I moved closer, crouching low beside her. Her scent hit me then — soft, sweet. I felt a dull ache in my chest. She shouldn’t have had an effect on me, but she did. My body tensed. My wolf froze.

Raze’s growl turned into a low, possessive rumble. “Mate” he growled.

The word slammed into my chest. I felt my pulse quicken.

“Impossible”, I muttered under my breath. “That can't be.”

She turned, her face now turning slightly toward me. Her face was bruised and swollen. Her cheekbone was stained with dried blood, and the corner of her lips was chapped. Even half-conscious, she was… breathtaking.

Her lashes were long, they brushed against her pale skin. Her plump lips looked soft, trembling slightly as she breathed. Her body was thin, fragile, as if the slightest touch would break her.

Suddenly, a rush of anger flooded my veins — a feeling that I shouldn't have for anyone. But this strange-looking girl made me feel it.

Pity, protectiveness, need

I hated all of those feelings, I had shut them completely.

“Who are you?” I whispered, though she couldn’t hear me.

Her scent deepened, pulling the part of me I had long shut. Raze pushed forward, his voice rough and urgent. She’s ours. Take her.

I gritted my teeth. “She’s a stranger. We don’t know her, she could be a rogue.”

She’s hurt. She needs us. Raze kept budging me

I shook my head, cursing under my breath. The last thing I needed was this. This is a mere distraction to me, the pack was preparing for the war to come. We were already on edge, protecting our boundary from rogue wolves, the council breathing down my neck. And now, the Moon decided to throw this— her —in my path?

But I couldn’t leave her here.

Her breathing had grown weaker, her body trembling from the cold, with cuts on her arms and legs. She looked like she’d been running for days, she looked exhausted.

Something about her felt… wrong, like fate had twisted just to make sure our paths crossed.” Fate, huh?”I laughed sarcastically.”

Before I could talk myself out of it, I slid my arms under her. She was light, almost too light, she looked malnourished, like she had starved for days. Her skin was cold against mine. A small sound escaped her lips, as she winced in pain, before going limp again

Raze growled low, satisfied. She fits.

“Shut up,” I hissed.

Still, I didn’t let her go.

---

The ride back to the pack house was silent. Her head rested against my chest as I rode, her breath slow but steady. Every now and then, a strand of her hair brushed my skin, soft as silk, smelling of rain and mud. I resisted the urge to touch it.

I should’ve felt nothing. I’d seen too much death, too much blood to be moved by a stranger. But something about her made my chest ache in anger, my jaw tightened, a surge of annoyance coursing through me.

I tightened my grip around her without meaning to.

By the time we reached the edge of Nightfang territory, dawn was breaking. My guards looked up in shock as I carried her through the gate.

“Alpha, who is she?” one of them asked.

“No questions,” I said sharply. “Get the healer.”

They scrambled to obey. I took her to my private chamber instead of the infirmary — I didn’t trust anyone else to be near her yet. Not until I knew who she was and why the hell she smelled like she belonged to me.

I lay her on the bed, her head sinking into the pillow. Her skin was warm now, the fever rising. She murmured something as she shifted to the comfort of the soft sheets. Her voice was soft, but cracked probably from the dryness in her throat, but it pulled at something inside me.

I brushed a strand of hair from her face. My fingers hovered over her cheek, not quite touching.

“You shouldn’t have crossed into my woods,” I whispered. “You don’t know what kind of monsters live here.”

I turned away, forcing my thoughts back into order. She would wake up soon. I needed answers.

Still, as I stood by the window, watching the light spill into the room, I couldn’t shake the feeling that my life — my carefully built wall— had just been cracked.

Raze’s voice echoed in the back of my mind, low and certain. “We found her”.

I clenched my fists. “No,” I said firmly.

But even as I said it, I couldn’t take my eyes off her.

ALIA POVThe battlefield had never felt this crowded before.Wolves lined the edges in tight rows, each one mummering with their partners and friends. Some watched me with curious eyes. I had met the eye of a beta wolf guy staring intensely at me. I frowned my face and glared daggers at him. He quickly averted his gaze.” Serves him right” I muttered. A whole lot of them had a pitiful look on, I guess they think this is our end,” Kayla said.Well, let's prove them wrong. I felt a confidence boost of adrenaline through my veins. I guess I am not dying today. Judging by the way the crowd looked, it seems they've already given a verdict. They crowned their winner before the fight even started.“Am going to prove them wrong, they crowned the wrong champion.”I stepped onto the sand, my boots sinking slightly into the ground. My fingers tightened around the hilt of my sword. The metal felt familiar. Steadier than the first time I held it here. The feeling grounded me, even as my heart race

Alia POVI didn’t wait long before visiting Lauren. The moment the sun rose fully, casting its yellow light through my window, I was already on my feet. My heart still hasn’t slowed from the experience before. I still felt it, every emotion. The woman in the forest. Her blue eyes. The way she looked at me was like she knew me better than I knew myself. And the mud that had magically appeared on my floor. Not to mention the cut on my leg. It all felt…too much.Dreams didn’t leave footprints.Lauren was already awake when I reached her hut. The scent of herbs and smoke clung to the air, familiar and strangely comforting. She looked up the moment I stepped inside, her sharp eyes narrowing.“You look like someone who didn’t sleep,” she said.“I slept,” I replied quietly. “But I don’t think I stayed in my bed.”That got her attention. Her eyes focused on me as I spoke.I told her everything.About the woman. The forest. The house. The crows with three eyes. The book. The way the dream fel

Alia POVEvery time I closed my eyes, I saw the woman's face again. Those blue eyes that looked too much like mine. The forest felt eerie around us, ancient and alive. The way she had said my wolf was locked away for my own safety.I sat up in bed before dawn, my heart racing.Mud still clung faintly to my feet. I had scrubbed them twice the night before, yet it still stuck to me as if it had soaked into my skin. I lifted my leg and stared at the thin cut along my calf.It was real.I pressed my fingers against it and sucked in a breath as pain flared. “How is this possible? How did my dream reflect in the real world, or did I sleepwalk?” I thought hard as I stared at the muddy footprints on the floor.”No, if I had sleepwalked that far, the guards would have stopped me. Hahhh, what's happening to me?” I groaned in frustration as I lay my head down.“I need to speak to Lauren, she'll be able to help me” I felt a little better with the thought.Suddenly, my bracelet glowed brightly on

Alia POVSleep hardly came. It was already past midnight when I came back to my room.I lay on my bed staring at the ceiling for a long while, my mind clouded with memories. Every time I closed my eyes, I felt him again. Kael’s hands. His mouth. The way his breath had trembled against my skin like he was barely holding himself together.I smiled to myself before I could stop it.My fingers lifted, brushing my lips gently, as if they might still be warm from his kiss. My heart fluttered, light and reckless, filled with a happiness that scared me because it felt so rare. For once, I did not feel hunted. For once, I did not feel alone.Eventually, I drifted into the dark.I found myself in a forest. It felt familiar, like I had been here before. The air was cool and damp. Moonlight filtered through twisted branches above me, silver and eerie. I knew this place. I have been here before. The same forest from my first dream. Alia POVThe moment the words left Kael’s mouth, the world around me froze.“I already told you that no one is allowed to be this close to you. Just me.” his words echoed in my head. The fire crackled behind us. Laughter rang far away, distant as if it wasn't real. All I could hear was my own heartbeat, loud in my ears.I felt embarrassed as I saw the look and whispers around us. Then, suddenly, a rush of anger and annoyance flooded me.“You don’t get to say that,” I whispered, my voice trembling. “You don’t get to decide who touches me Kael.”Kael’s jaw clenched. His eyes burned like the flames. Before I could say another word, his hand closed around my wrist and he pulled me away from the bonfire, away from curious eyes. I stumbled after him, my heart racing as the noise faded and the forest swallowed us whole. He stopped abruptly in a small clearing, light barely reaching us. Shadows clung to the trees. The night felt alive, watching.I yanked my hand free quickly.“You embarrassed

Alia POVLiora focused on me like I was a canvas she had been waiting her whole life to paint.“Stand still,” she warned, narrowing her eyes as she held the dress up against me. “If you move one more time, I swear I’ll leave you looking like a frightened village girl.”I laughed softly. “That’s already what I am.”She snorted. “Well, not tonight.”The dress she chose was simple, but beautiful in its own quiet way. A short gown, the colour of deep midnight blue, soft fabric that hugged my waist and fell lightly over my thighs. It wasn’t revealing, yet it clung in places that made me suddenly aware of my body. The neckline was modest, but it framed my collarbones beautifully. When I slipped it on and looked at myself, I barely recognised the girl staring back.Liora clapped her hands in satisfaction. “Perfect. You're looking stunning, Alia.”She pulled my hair loose and worked it into soft waves, pinning part of it back so it framed my face instead of hiding it. Then came the makeup. It
