MasukAVERY WINTERS
"Now that you have signed the papers, everything will be finalized in a week time. You will also take over the company, and the remaining funds will be transferred to you first thing tomorrow morning.” He went quiet for a moment, and then continued again. “It's late now, you should head back home and return tomorrow morning. Or better still, we can meet at Mr. Reed’s house. I will text you the address." "His house?" I asked. He nodded. “You will be meeting his Mom and sister tomorrow. He wants everything finalized as soon as possible," he added again. "Ms. Winters...” he called, calmly. “I know I'm not in any position to ask you this, but are you really sure you're ready for this?" He asked, his tone laced with concern. "Trust me, it's not going to be easy." Is this a heads up?— I thought, worriedly. I looked up to meet his gaze and nodded resolutely. I might still have a lot on my mind, but I don't want to drag this. Since I had already sign the papers, I don't think there's a way out again. I'm in this already. "I will be fine. I've been in a tougher situations before now, I’m sure I can over come this too. Besides, it's just for a year, right?" "Yes, it is. But a lot can happen in that a year.” Why do I have chills hearing him said that? I nodded softly, picked my bag and stood up. "I should take my leave now. See you tomorrow, Mr. Theodore." "Goodbye, Ms. Winters. Please, take good care of yourself.” I nodded, passed him a small smile and walked out of the office. • As I drove back to Caden’s house, I pulled into the compound, parked my car, and a heavy sigh escaped my lips before I stepped out of the car. I know I’m not supposed to come back here, especially after our earlier altercation, but I need to do it the right way. I have to sign the divorce papers and pack up my stuff. I headed inside and was met with Caden’s angry face. He looked so upset that I could feel his fury from where I stood. "Where are you coming from?" He asked, his tone dripping with venom. "What sort of a stupid question is that? I don't owe you an explanation," I replied, matching his tone as I tried to walk past him. But he grasped my wrist, and slammed my back roughly against the wall. I winced in pain, met his gaze, and his eyes were still burning with rage. "I won't ask you again, Avery. Where the hell have you been?" He growled, his grip on my wrist tightening as his nails dug deep into my skin. Tears instantly welled up in my eyes, but I clenched my fist instead, suppressing the pain. I locked gazes with him as I said, “You’re hurting me, Caden. You need to let go.” I thought he would let go, but his grip on my wrist tightened even more. "You need to fucking answer me, Avery! Where the hell have you been? Have you been with your lover all this while?! Have you been cheating on me? Did he satisfy you down there like I always do?! Is that why you were so eager to divorce me?! You agreed to the divorce so quickly without blinking an eye!" He burst out angrily. I furrowed my eyebrow confusedly. What? And despite the anger welling up inside me, a dry chuckle still found its way out of my lips. And with all the strength I had, I managed to push him away. "Now, you're accusing me of what you've been doing? Caden, do I need to remind you that you’ve been the one fucking around with my stepsister? You flaunted your love for her in my face!” I burst out, my anger boiling over. “You’re the one divorcing me for her! How dare you call me names when you’re the cheater here!” I lunged at him, my fist clenched, but he caught my wrist and shoved me roughly onto the couch. Before I could get up, he pinned me down and squeezed my jaw tightly, making sure I feel the pain. "You don't have the-" He began, but a familiar voice suddenly cut him off. "CADEN!!!" We both turned and met his Mom’s shocked face. She rushed over to us, pushed Caden away from me, and helped me up, positioning herself between us to protect me. Her eyes blazed with anger as she stared at him. "What the hell do you think you're doing?!" She scolded. "Mom, you stay out of this" he hissed. "Have you lost your mind, Caden? How dare you lay a hand on your wife? What has gotten into you because I never raised a monster?” His face twisted in anger. "You shouldn’t direct that question to me. You should ask her where the hell she’s been and why she’s just returning now?!" He burst out, pointing an accusing finger at me, his eyes blazing with fury. I stared at him, unbelieving, and the tears I had been trying so hard to hold back finally slipped down my cheeks freely. I had made a promise to myself— not to shed tears in front of him again, but here I am, crying like a fool, which I hated. He was the one who had brought in another woman, had sex with her in our matrimonial bedroom. He had looked me in the face and thrown the divorce papers at me, told me he was tired of me, so why was he acting this way? Why was he acting like I had the one who cheated on him? "Mom, it's not what you think, I promise. I can explain." "Explain what?” He hissed, his eyes narrowing. “That you're a cheat?!" "I'm not a cheater, Caden! And you know it!" "I don't care! Listen... I'm leaving now, and before I return, I don't want to ever see you here again!" He said, his voice dripping with venom. "I want you gone. Forever! Sign the fucking papers and get out of my house!" He ordered, pointed his index finger at me, and then stormed out of the house angrily, slamming the door behind him. The loud bang made both his mom and I jolt in shock. She slowly turned to me, her expression softening. She took my hand and guided me to sit beside her on the couch. Even though a glint of accusation still lingered in her eyes, her tone was still gentle as she tried speaking. “What papers is he talking about, Avery?” She asked. “Don’t tell me it’s not what I’m thinking?” "Mom, please, stop giving me that look. You have to trust me, I didn't do anything. It was Caden who wanted the divorce and he was still the one who called me a barren after I caught him with another woman in our bedroom." "What?!!"BERNARD REED I furrowed my brows deeply as I stared at her in confusion.“What are you doing?” I asked cautiously.“I... you can’t... I want... I-I...” she stuttered nervously, completely unable to form a proper sentence. Her eyes darted around anxiously before she suddenly stopped talking altogether. Then, forcing a small smile onto her face, she shook her head quickly.“Um... it’s nothing,” she muttered awkwardly as she stepped aside from the doorway. “You can leave now.”She gestured toward the door with her hand.I threw her one last strange look, still confused by her behavior, but I didn’t bother questioning her further. Instead, I walked past her and headed straight toward my study. The moment Lucas saw me approaching, he immediately straightened his posture.A faint smile appeared on his face before he bowed respectfully alongside the other guards standing nearby. Without wasting another second, he quickly stepped forward and opened the office door for me.The atmosphere arou
AVERY WINTERS Sitting against the headboard, I kept my eyes fixed on Ben as he gently massaged my legs. His touch was careful, almost too careful, and instead of comforting me, it only made my thoughts spiral even more. Maybe I had become too used to the way things usually were between us, because this sudden kindness from him felt unfamiliar. Strange. Even suspicious. There was definitely something going on.“Bernard...?” I called softly. He didn’t stop massaging my legs. Instead, he slowly lifted his gaze to meet mine, his expression calm and unreadable.“Yes, my love?” he answered gently.I stared at him for a few seconds before finally asking, “Why did you do that earlier?”He frowned lightly, pretending not to understand. “Do what?”I narrowed my eyes at him. “Don’t play dumb with me, Ben. You know exactly what I’m talking about.”A quiet chuckle escaped his lips as he shook his head slowly.“Don’t start overthinking things again, Avery,” he said in a reassuring tone, his han
AVERY WINTERS “What the hell is going on here?!” Bernard demanded, rushing toward us, his eyes narrowing sharply at both Hazel and I.And right on the spot, she burst into fake tears.“Bernard… it really hurts. Can you help me stand up?” she pleaded, her voice trembling as she stretched out her hand toward him, her expression pitiful.I stood there, frozen.Immediately scolding myself mentally— how could I be this stupid?I had promised myself, sworn to myself... that I would never fall into her trap again. And yet… here I was.Not only had I fallen right into it, but I had practically handed her the perfect weapon to use against me.I wasn’t even surprised anymore. This was her usual trick. She had done it countless times before. What angered me the most wasn’t her—it was me.For being careless. For not thinking ahead. For not calculating the outcome. And the worst part? The clear, unmistakable imprint of my palm was boldly marked across her cheek. There was no escaping this.Slowly
AVERY WINTERS “No, no, no…” she started, waving her index finger slowly in the air, her lips curling into a twisted smile. “That’s not how you should say it.”Her eyes gleamed with something dark and unsettling.“It should be... what have I schemed this time? Because I’m already done scheming everything… and I’m winning!” she exclaimed excitedly, a maniacal laugh escaping her lips. “I’m already one step ahead of you, Avery!”“What nonsense are you spewing this time?” I asked again, my voice laced with anger as I glared at her.“Well…” she trailed off, clasping her hands together casually. “Don’t rush it. I will definitely explain everything to you. One... after the other.”She took slow, deliberate steps toward me and began circling me like a predator sizing up its prey.Instinctively, I stepped back.In the process, we switched positions— she now stood where I had been earlier, while I unknowingly took her place, my back now facing the entrance of the room.“It all started when you
AVERY WINTERS In one swift motion, Hazel shoved Harper away from her, quickly straightening her shirt as if nothing had happened.“What are you doing?” she snapped, rolling her eyes before tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.“What do you mean?” Harper shot back, her expression instantly turning pitiful. “I was trying to comfort you. You looked so sad… I just wanted to console you. Is there something wrong with that?”Her voice trembled just enough to sound believable.I, on the other hand, bit down hard on my lip.I was this close to bursting into laughter.“Enough,” Bernard's voice suddenly cut through the tension. “We’re not here for this.”Without sparing anyone another glance, he turned and strode upstairs. The atmosphere shifted immediately.Heavy.Urgent.From what we had gathered, Aaron was supposed to be rushed to the hospital, but instead, the doctor had brought the necessary equipment here and had been treating him in the house. Apparently, it had been a seizure—and th
AVERY WINTERS I can confidently say that Bernard and Ezra have not been themselves ever since we told them about the pregnancies. The overprotectiveness… the constant pampering… the way they won’t let us lift a single finger— it’s almost overwhelming. And it’s not just them anymore.Caleb and Asher now knows about my pregnancy too. Now, we’re all on our way back to the New York. Morning has already broken, though Bernard' private jet had landed late last night.Everything happened so fast.We barely had time to truly enjoy ourselves. Yes… I had fun, but not as much as I wanted to.And honestly?I’m done stressing over things I can’t control, because right now, my focus needs to be on my child. On protecting myself… for my baby… and for my husband's legacy. Am I being selfish? For not putting Bernard's first son before mine?I know I’ve always said I see Aaron as my own, and I meant it… I still do. But... Gosh!I don’t even want to think about it.The mere thought makes me feel guil
BERNARD REED"Mom," she called, her eyes flashing with happiness."Avery," she stepped closer, climbed the bed on the other side and took a sit beside her, then engulf her in a tight hug. "You scared me, dear. You have no idea how worried I was when Lucas told me you fainted. I had to rush here, th
BERNARD REEDI walked into the living, and surprisingly, it was unusually quiet. Weird. The maids were nowhere to be found, which didn’t surprise me though, given the new rules she’s set lately. She’s been managing them quite strictly since movie in with me. I’ve also heard she gave them specific
AVERY WINTERS He gently placed his head on my forehead, his warm breath fanning against my skin, making a shiver run down my spine. He shut his eyes closed, and whispered. "I don't know what you have done to me, Avery. I don't know why I'm suddenly behaving this way," his voice low and husky, sen
AVERY WINTERSI helped and guided him to the bed before laying him down, gently. He was never the type to get drunk, in fact, I have never seen him drink ever since I stepped into this house, so what happened?I removed his shoes, socks, and suit before covering him with a blanket.I have no idea
