I stared at my reflection in the mirror and was finally satisfied. After what felt like hours of frantic searching, I had finally found a dress that would perfectly complement the earrings. Yes, those earrings – the ones I discovered hidden in Jason's pocket this morning. A pair of delicate and luxurious pearl earrings adorned with diamonds It was created by my favorite designer, Kokichi Mikimoto, one of only five such earrings in the world. Jason is so thoughtful that he would secretly buy the jewelry I like and give it to me as a surprise on our wedding anniversary. Yes, I was sure he would give this gift to me tonight. I kept checking my dress and makeup in the mirror, and couldn't help imagining how stunning I would look in those earrings. My hands smoothed down the fabric of the dress, which clung to my body in a way it hadn't just a few weeks ago. I turned to the side, my eyes drawn to the slight, but unmistakable curve of my abdomen. A secret I had yet to share with anyone, least of all Jason. Finally, after three years of marriage, Jason and I were going to be parents. This was the moment I had been waiting for, the news that would make tonight's anniversary dinner with Jason even more special. I placed my hands on my lower abdomen and the smile on my face grew even wider. Jason and I have been together since college. I feel very lucky to be married to such a wonderful man. Although Jason is not great at expressing himself and rarely shows his emotions, I still think our marriage is happy. I went to get my phone, intending to ask Jason if he could come home early tonight. But a striking piece of news forced me to click on it. In the video, under the countless camera flashes, the elegant man in a neatly tailored black coat was very familiar to me, that was my husband. And next to him was a charming lady, whom I had never seen before. "The CEO of Campbell Group appeared at the airport, with his secret GIRLFRIEND." Each word in that headline felt like a sharp blade, cutting through my confidence. I held my cold hands together, trying to steady my breathing and make sense of what I had seen. I couldn't see the face of the woman in the video from the camera's angle. Therefore, I felt that their relationship might not be what the press suggested. After all, I knew the man I had married. We had built three years of memories, and trust was supposed to be our foundation. Maybe she was just a relative, someone close but not what they claimed. A soft click from the front door pulled me from my thoughts, and I rushed over. Jason was wearing a brown trenchcoat looking even more handsome than in the video. “Hey babe, welcome back.” I helped him take off his coat and took his bag. “How was your day?” I asked. “Hectic as usual but went smoothly. Why are you all dressed up? Are you going out this late?” “Huh! You don't remember?” I couldn't hide the disappointment in my voice. He looked at me with a puzzled expression. “Remember what?” “What day it is, babe,” I pouted. I led him to the dining table hoping he was just pretending not to remember but he still had that puzzled expression when he saw the table setting. My heart sank. “Stop joking dear. It's our anniversary. I know you just want to surprise me.” I started to feel ridiculous. It was so obvious that he didn't even remember our anniversary, but I still wanted to give him another chance, or maybe give myself another chance. Jason rubbed the back of his neck apologetically. “I'm sorry Ava I have been preoccupied lately with work, it slipped my mind that today was our anniversary but I promise to make it up to you.” “What do you want? Anything at all just mention it and I will get it for you in the blink of an eye.” I stared at him intently, “Come on, I saw the pair of earrings this morning. Why don't you take it out and put it on me.” Jason tilted his head quizzically. “Which earrings?” I looked at his perfectly handsome face under the light and suddenly felt that I had never really gotten to know him. Suddenly, a knock on the door interrupted everything. He strode towards the door and I followed behind him curious to know who was visiting this late at night. As he opened the door a young lady hugged him and said with the sweetest voice, “Why haven't you gotten ready? I'm starving.” I recognized that voice. It was the same as the lady in the news. Confusion and disbelief swirled within me as I stared at Jason and stared back at this stranger holding his arm intimately. I glared at the lady intensely and my eyes were fixed on the sparkling diamond in her earlobe. The earrings she wore bore a striking resemblance to the one I found in Jason's closet which I thought were my anniversary gift. My heart skipped a beat. The lady turned to me with a saccharine smile. “Oh, you must be his wife! Nice to meet you. I'm Laura Martinez. He always talks about you.” “I just got divorced today, so I asked Jason to have dinner with me to celebrate. I'll borrow him tonight, thank you!” Hearing the woman's words I looked at Jason expecting an explanation instead I noticed he was putting his coat back on. “Jason…” I stared at him in disbelief. Jason glanced at me, an uncomfortable look crossing his face. “Ava, I'm sorry. Maybe we can celebrate another time. I promise I'll be back soon.” “But it's our anniversary,” I protested weakly, feeling lost and betrayed. “I even made your fav….” Before I could finish my statement, the door was slammed in my face. He left with Laura leaving me standing by the doorway with a shattered heart. I tried to understand and piece together what had just happened, it still felt like a dream to me. Who was Laura, and why was she wearing those earrings? Did Jason give them to her? How could he go out with another woman on our anniversary day? This was the first time Jason had ever forgotten our anniversary, so don't blame me for overthinking. I took the pregnancy test results out of my pocket. Tears threatened to spill over but I blinked them back. What went wrong with my marriage? I can't risk Jason knowing about my baby until I figure this out, so I stuffed the results into the deepest compartment of my bag. I retreated into the empty house that suddenly felt cold and desolate.Sophia's POVI am currently in a Limousine with the boss only a few feet away from me, heading to my apartment to go meet with his grandfather.I am still in a daze as I recounted what had happened only some minutes before.---"I... I'll sign it." I said, sighing in defeat and I saw the twinkle of satisfaction in his eyes."Good. Noah, the contract." He ordered.Noah, who had been minding his business a few feet away walked up to us with a file in hand. He stood in front of me and handed me the file before walking away.My eyes returned to the boss when he said, "you are free to read before signing. If there's any clause that you disagree with, you can say."I nodded and opened the contract to scan through, "You will be with me for three years! Section 1, do not fall in love with me!" He stated and I nodded, my eyes going back to the contract.'Section 1: You are not in any way allowed to have any romantic feelings whatsoever for the contractee. This agreement should be strictly prof
SOPHIA'S POV"Sophia!" I heard Liam's voice outside my small apartment and the door being kicked open seconds after, he was right in front of me, fuming."Li-" I couldn't even get a word out."What is this?!" He asked, bringing his phone out to show me something."Uhm… your phone is off…"He hurriedly switched it on and showed me the picture of me on the bed with the boss' hand around me."Have you been cheating on me?!""No! It's a misunderstanding, I-""Is that why you didn't want my help? You felt guilty because you've been cheating on me?! How could you?!!" He screamed and I reached out to put my hand on his chest and calm him down but he pushed my hand off and burst into tears."Liam, it isn't what it looks like.""Then what is it Soph?! I love you, you're the first girl I've ever loved so much, I fought with my dad for you! And you go on to cheat on me?! Why? Is he better than me? Is it because he's richer?! Wealthier?! Tell me! Why did you cheat on me!?""Liam, calm down and le
JUSTIN'S POV"Boss, I think someone may have spiked your drink last night." I heard Noah's voice over the phone."You think?! What the hell happened? I suddenly find some lady in my bed and then the paparazzi show up?!!" I asked, my voice fuming."Well it's already all over the news and I'm checking the camera footage of last night.""Be here with some answers when you're done.""Oh I wouldn't want to interrupt you and your… lover." He said and I knew he must be smirking over the phone."Noah!" I yelled and with a chuckle, he cut the call.I and Noah were best friends. While I was the silent type, he was the talkative and funny type, he was also my assistant. Our friendship was the only reason he could mess with me.I stepped back into the room to see the gorgeous lady gone. Although she was beautiful, I despise people like her, people that are shameless enough to use others for fame and lie about it later on. I wonder how she did it, to get me in bed with her, but she did it.I put o
SOPHIA'S POVThe sun's rays shone on my eyes and I groaned as I shifted on the soft bed.Wait! My bed was anything but soft. I opened my eyes to see myself on a huge king-sized bed with a comforter around me, my bare back pressed against a hard chest and a person's arm wrapped tightly around my waist, pinning me to the 'him'.He groaned behind me and I was still in shock when I heard the door pushed open and people rushed in with cameras and mics, what was happening?"Justin Smith caught in bed with a lover!" Someone said while the cameras clicked and I squeezed my eyes shut to avoid the lights."Who is she?" They asked as they swarmed around the bed to capture my face.I tried using my hands to block the lights but the person laying behind me flipped the comforter over my face and put his arms around me."What is going on?" He asked, his voice husky, deep and attractive. I hadn't even gotten a view of his face yet but what was I doing on his bed?"Mr Smith, is she your lover?" Someon
SOPHIA'S POVAnother day, another headache. Today was my day off so I was free to do whatever I'd like, and that includes waking up at whatever time I'd like but I think it's already become a norm for me to wake up at 6am in the morning. I went ahead to prepare for the new day.I had just gotten out of the bathroom when my phone rang loudly. I picked it up, holding on to my towel."He-" I got interrupted before I could make up a simple hello."Where the heck are you?!" I heard Marcus' voice yell and I pulled the phone from my ear before putting it back."I'm home, today is my day off, remember?" I asked."Well, no off day for you today! If you do not want to lose this job, be at the hotel in half an hour!" He cut the call off and I was left confused but I sure didn't want to get fired so I hurried off.…The maids and cooks were running everywhere and as soon as I walked in, I got dragged off by Marcus."You! You're cleaning the boss' room!" He said."What?""Are you daft?! I said you
SOPHIA'S POV"We will have to operate on him immediately." The doctor said to me, "And the bills will have to be paid within a week." He flashed me a wry smile and I nodded."I'll try to have it by then." I said."Thank you for understanding." He walked out of the room and I was left with my brother who lay unconscious on the bed.He had gotten into an accident a few days ago which had resulted in a severe brain injury that left him in a coma and he needed to go through surgery.I sighed. This was the worst time for this to be happening. I had my student loan debt I needed to pay and I had used up all of my savings, and I had no friends or parents with me to help. We were both orphans raised by our paternal grandmother who had passed away 2 years ago.I sighed and my phone suddenly started ringing. I picked it up, "hello?""Yeah babe?" I recognized Liam's voice and I got up to leave the room, "what did the doctor say?"Liam was my new crush-turned-boyfriend. We just started dating a
