For the first time in a while, Dexter was terrified about his father's presence. It's not as though George had gigantic horns fixed on his forehead.
In normal circumstances, Dexter would have walked away without looking back. However, due to what was at stake, he decided to stay back
"Did it ever for once occur to you that Derek is your biological brother and not your half brother? Both of you were born by the same parents. You also have the same blood running through your veins," George asked Dexter from his hospital bed.
Dexter was unable to respond because he knew that was a rhetorical question. Although, George wasn't thinking in that direction. He thought Dexter was gonna provide a breathtaking response.
"That's exactly what I thought. I knew my instinct wouldn't deceive me. Your silence was the only response I needed from you and you did it." George concluded. He didn't give Dexter a second chance to process his response.
Dexter surely knew what his response was. It was quite unfortunate that he was too terrified to speak. The shock inside of him has completely disabled just vocal cords.
"Before I proceed with what I wanted to speak with you about. I need to ask you a simple question, Dexter. It's important that you're honest with me. I don't want us to drag this for too long. You already know my heart condition." George paused, took a deep breath and continued his interrogative session with Dexter. "Why do you hate Derek so much?"
"That's not true, Dad.
I have no hatred towards Derek whatsoever and you know that. Why would I wanna hate my brother? This is quite unbelievable. I haven't for once harbor such thoughts in my head." With a move too fast, Dexter vindicated himself as though they were in the court of law. Coming from someone that was struggling to construct a single sentence
"Did Derek tell you this? When did you two have this conversation? Because I can't seem to understand where this is coming from. To be honest with you, I am not impressed with how you usually handle issues involving Derek and I," Dexter bemoaned further.
"Don't you dare play that victim card with me, Dexter. It's never gonna work on me. We both know I am telling the truth. I know what I am talking about. I've seen how you look at him disdainfully. I am pretty sure you would've gotten rid of him if he was a different person," George proceeded to expose a more hidden dark side about Dexter.
Dexter himself became confused if he truly exhibited those traits his Father just highlighted.
With a shocking expression, Dexter exclaimed. "Father, but why do you keep treating me this way? It doesn't really make sense to me. Have you ever seen me attempting to slit Derek's throat with a knife? How did you even come up with such assumptions that aren't real?"
"Come on, man. Are you even listening to yourself? Because if you did, you won't have defended yourself like a coward and guess what? You shine at it.
Just so you know, I don't need to be told before I know the truth. You and Derek are both my sons. I know a lot about you two more than what you can think of," like a proud father, George bragged.
"Nice try, Dad. You did your best.
Too bad you didn't get it right this time," Dexter applauded George and forced a smile. However, the smile didn't come from a place of happiness.
"We both know Derek is your favorite. You are always quick to be on his side regardless If he's wrong. I've always been seen as the black sheep of the family. Nothing I do ever impress you," Dexter wept as he went to pour out his heart to George. He used the opportunity to utter those things he can't even attempt on a normal day.
"That's because you already gave us that impression that you are the black sheep. You're my oldest son, yet you don't act like one. You successfully sold your birthright to Derek in exchange for what? Peanuts?" George taunted Dexter in such a way that can force tears down his chin.
"You're always intimidated by his success. Everyone knows that.
What am I even talking about? You are envious of Derek's success. You are too ashamed to tell the world about Derek. You know why? They're gonna question what you've been doing your whole life when Derek was making it,"
George poked fun at Dexter that was accompanied by a wicked laughter.
Dexter panted heavily as he struggled to condone his anger. He was tempted to hurt his father and at the same time, try not to do anything stupid that would get him arrested.
Dexter suddenly recalled the last time he got arrested by his Father himself. George ensured that Dexter spent a couple nights behind bars. The event still lives rent free in his head. He would rather not let such a mistake repeat itself again.
"I guess I shouldn't have signed the consent form. That was the worst mistake I ever made. For once, I thought I would be appreciated but I guess I was wrong. What did I get in return? The same Derek that wasn't there with you when you needed him the most has suddenly become a saint," like a pathetic widow, Dexter lamented bitterly. He had wanted his Father's ranting and just walked away like a perfect gentleman. But somehow, the pain sunk right into his skin that he can't ignore.
"What did I just hear you say?"
George dared Dexter to repeat what he just said.
"Exactly what you just heard, Dad. Do you want me to repeat what I said?I should delay your wish. Perhaps, decline them with an immediate effect. Just maybe, we won't be having this issue right now." Dexter added. He unleashed the beast inside of him. He knew he had gotten to that stage where things started falling apart.
"Am I interrupting anything interesting? This place looks quiet. Why do I have a feeling that you all suddenly stopped talking because I walked in? Are you all discussing me? I might just walk away if my presence is making you all uncomfortable." Kelly asked with seriousness. The sudden silence in the room worries him so much. He could have sworn that he heard some voices when he was still outside. "Kelly, please stop. Stop drawing unnecessary conclusions. It doesn't even make sense to me. This has nothing to do with you. Why do you think everything is always about you, huh? The least you could have done was to ask. This is not the way to go about this." George fumed at Kelly. Not even the news of Dexter's arrest made him react that way. He poured out his frustration at Kelly as he was the one who got Dexter arrested. "Okay. I guess it's not about me after all. At least, I know I am safe,' Kelly sighed.Another awkward glance from George fueled another suspicion."What? Stop starin
Slowly, Ciara walked to the door and opened it. She stood at the door entrance to ensure that Walters didn't force himself inside the house. "You look stunning tonight. What the heck am I saying? You always look stunning. But tonight, it's different." They were the first words of Walters, immediately he saw Ciara. He couldn't get his eyes off her as though that were the first time meeting each other. The plan was to flatter Ciara and make her fall for Walters again. Sadly, it wasn't working. Ciara already knew what his intentions were. "What do you want?" She shunned his flattering words and went straight to the point. She can't deny the fact that Walters himself looks good. Due to what's at stake, she couldn't admit it. "I just want us to talk. Can I at least come inside let's have a decent conversation?" Walters begged. He sounded sorrowful like the biblical prodigal son who showed up to his father's house after wasting his inheritance. "You want us to talk?" She giggled and
Peeping through the tiny hole from inside, Ciara spotted a familiar face at her doorstep, holding a flower bouquet. He was dressed in a dark suit as though he were heading for a dinner date. It was a face that brought back old memories. He was the last person Ciara expected to see at that crucial time. This was the moment Ciara wished it was Derek. She felt that his presence was more significant than the person outside. "I can't believe it's Walters that's standing outside my doorstep. He is even dressed in a suit. What exactly does he want from me? I thought I would never set my eyes on him ever again. Why didn't he reach out to me personally? For crying out loud, it's 8:20 PM. Is he that jobless?Doesn't he have important places to be at this time? Why come to my house? What if my Father was around?" Ciara lamented in a low tone. Too many mysteries surrounding the presence of Walters, her ex-boyfriend. They haven't spoken to each other since Walters called off their relationshi
"I said nasty things about you in your absence that shouldn't have been said. I allowed my emotions and anger to control me. Now I am regretting every one of my actions," Tony confessed, yet failed to hit the nail on the head. He got Lucas and everyone confused."I don't understand what you are talking about. You still haven't told me what I need to hear. Can you please go straight to the point? You are not even making sense right now," Lucas fumed. He pretends not to know what Tony says about him. He wanted Tony to admit it himself. "I kind of pulled out of the plan to prosecute Dexter in your absence. Not just pulling out, I also tried forcing everyone to make the same decision," Tony finally took the courage to speak up. It was the most difficult task of his life. He would have sworn that he was never going to say that. To everyone's surprise, Lucas didn't react to Tony's confession, nor did he confront Tony. Instead, Lucas laughed and shook his head in pity. Tony got more scar
"But why didn't she tell me before? What game is she trying to play with me? Why does it have to be now? No, I disagree. I need to unravel the real truth in this." Officer Lucas asked himself rhetorically as his voice echoed back to him. Plenty of unanswered questions roam inside his head with no one around to provide the answers. "Now I see what Nurse Elizabeth is trying to achieve with this. She wants to manipulate me with some fake pregnancy, isn't it? There's no way I am letting her get away with it. Time to show her that I am smarter than she can ever imagine," Officer Lucas thought to himself. He doesn't want to believe that everything happening is a coincidence already. Five years of relationship and it happened to be their first-ever fight. And it turned out to be worse. To think that Officer Lucas already making plans to propose marriage to Nurse Elizabeth. He already contacted the event planning for the engagement party. He intends to make it the most memorable night o
"Exactly what you heard, Romeo. This is crazy. It's against my belief. I can't imagine myself being a partaker of something that's against my faith," Tony confirmed his decision to back out. His lips weren't shaking either, and his legs were struggling to stand firm on the ground. He didn't stutter or mince words. It was as though he'd been waiting for this moment all his life to express his dissatisfaction. "Your beliefs?" Romeo giggled. He paced around the office and returned a few seconds later. "Please tell me this is a joke. It's too early to joke with a situation like this," Romeo doubted Tony. Despite the seriousness on Tony's face, Romeo still didn't think he meant every damn word he said. "I wouldn't utter a word to you anymore. I rather wait for the officer to show up. Perhaps, you are going to believe me when I say it to his face," Tony stated and stepped backwards. Those were the only words he uttered. "he's serious about it," Romeo muttered in disbelief. Tony was t
