Ambitious Romeo

"What are you scared of? I don't bite. Come on, take the envelope from me and stop acting like a baby already. An officer like you shouldn't be fidgeting. Have you forgotten what I told you about being courageous? You never can tell, it might be your letter of promotion," Lucas said. Romeo saw that as a trick and refused to fall for it. 

Without hesitation, he went on his knees immediately and pleaded for Lucas forgiveness. "I am sorry for the things I did to you. None of them were intentional. I've learned my lessons now. Please, I don't want to end up like Tony. I deserve a second chance,"

The dismissal of Tony still lives rent-free in Romeo's head like a movie. He wouldn't want his situation to be like that. 

"You don't want to end up like Tony, right? That's quite ambitious if you ask me," Lucas scoffed.

"I don't know what you are talking about. I can't recall what happened to Tony. Can you please remind me?" 

"You dismissed him because of Dexter Cooper, sir. Not just that, he also spoke against your judgment. Something he should not have done. And his actions backfired against him immediately. That's something I don't wish for myself," Romeo stuttered while he remained on the ground. 

"So what makes you think you would want to end up like him? Have you committed any crime to be dismissed?" Lucas asked. For someone that ought to be mad at Romeo, he still manages to put a smile on his face. 

That was the part that got Romeo confused. It was difficult for him to tell if Lucas was serious or joking. 

"Stand up on your feet if you wanna live. Don't make me change my mind because you are not gonna like what i am gonna do to you. Your situation might be worse than Tony's," Lucas ordered Romeo after issuing the warning. 

Romeo heard him clearly and remained on the ground. He thought everything was all a dream. He waited for Lucas to repeat his utterances. 

Few minutes have gone past and Lucas hasn't said anything. He wasn't even pissed that Romeo had refused to stand up. 

That was the moment Romeo knew that he needed to stand up immediately before Lucas changes his mind 

"Sir, does that mean you have forgiven me for my sins? Am I free to leave now?" Romeo asked in anticipation. 

He learned in the hard way and just can't wait to be free from the mess 

"Not so fast, Romeo. 

There's still a lot to be done,' Lucas said. 

He pointed to the chair in front of him and said. "Be seated, Romeo. I want to have a spirited conversation with you. I would also need you to pay attention,"

Romeo struggled to cement his buttocks on the chair despite his little size. 

Half of his butt was outside. He was already prepared to evade whatever attack that might come from Lucas. 

"Do you know I like you? Among the policemen in this station, you remain one of the best," Lucas proceeded to speak while showering Romeo with praises. 

"Thank You!" Romeo nodded his head. He wasn't sure if that was a remark or some taunting. 

"But you disappointed me when you decided to invade my privacy. Like seriously, what were you thinking trying to fight for Dexter cooper? The same person that you never liked?" Lucas flared up after controlling his anger for too long. 

Romeo saw this coming the moment he decided to help Dexter out. To think that Dexter wasn't even going to pay him. 

That's one decision that hurts Romeo. He wished he had requested for money to serve as a consolation should it get messier. 

"How much did Dexter pay you to fight for his release?" Lucas punched the question at Romeo. 

Coincidentally, it turned out to be the same question that Rhoda asked Romeo. 

"Absolutely nothing, Boss. I am just doing this for his father. The old man is hospitalized because of Dexter. He might die when the news of Dexter's arrest gets to him. I wouldn't want that to happen. Please, do something. Dexter just needs to reach out to his Father." Romeo spoke tirelessly while Lucas listened endlessly and nodded in his head.

I see. I can see that's what you were discussing with Rhoda before I walked in, isn't it?

You needed Dexter's phone to reach out to his Father?" Lucas assumed. He was starting to understand the situation better. 

"Exactly, Sir,' Romeo nodded in response. 

"So did she give the phone to you?"

"No, she didn't. 

She got scared that you might punish her for doing that," Romeo disclosed. 

Lucas sighed. 

He didn't say a word afterward. He dipped his hands to the same place he took out the brown even lope. 

Right in Romeo's presence, Lucas brought out a phone and flashed it across Romeo's face. 

The only person Romeo could think of was Dexter's phone. Nonetheless, he kept his observation to himself while waiting for Lucas to speak about it 

"Do you know who owns this phone?" Lucas asked. 

"No, sir. I don't.

I am not sure if I've seen anything like that before," Romeo replied. He put up a face to convince Lucas that he was telling the truth. 

"I know this may come as a shock to you, but I am just going to tell you anyway.

This is Dexter's phone," Lucas revealed, followed by a wicked smile.

"Dexter's phone?

 How's that even possible? 

But Rhoda made me believe me that the phone was with her. Something isn't right here," Dexter argued. He couldn't believe his eyes. He had already planned on how he was going to yell at Rhoda when he stepped outside. 

"I know right. 

What were you thinking?

That she was going to give the phone to you? Come on, don't be ridiculous," Lucas flared up as he scolded Romeo 

Not too long, Rhoda walked inside Lucas' office without knocking. Upon sighting Rhoda, Romeo stood up immediately and wanted to devour her.
