First Day Jobless

It was just the first day without a Job, and Romeo's life hasn't remained the same anymore. There's a part of him that's missing from inside that he just can't fathom. 

 He would roll to both sides of the bed like a snake due to frustration. He couldn't even summon the courage to tell his wife about the devastating news. He was scared that his wife might react badly to the news or do something crazy. He intends to keep the news to himself for the longest time possible until he's done helping Dexter get out of prison.

"Honey, I am off to work. I would also drop the kids at school on my way to work. If you ever feel hungry, your food is in the dining room. Love you!" Nancy, Romeo's wife, informed him. She kissed his forehead afterward.

26 years of age, light-skinned, curly hair, and curved. They've been married for 10 years and blessed with 3 beautiful kids. 

Nancy was never supporting Romeo's decision to become a cop. She was scared that he might get shot to death on duty.

 As a graduate of Law, Nancy had thought Romeo was going to consider becoming a barrister. That was one of the reasons that motivated her to marry Romeo. 

After their wedding, Romeo changes of mind and becomes a cop. At that time, it was too late for Nancy to file for divorce. She had fallen so deeply in love with Romeo and was scared to lose him. She had no choice but to accept his decision. 

Nancy's late Father was one of the most respected cops in the city before he got killed in a gunfight with some armed robbers. For this reason, Nancy has shared her dissatisfaction with Romeo's choice to become a cop. Even when he got promoted at the station, she wasn't pleased. It didn't change the fact that she hated the job.

"Honey, I am talking to you. Wake up!" Nancy called again. She was already making plans to leave when she saw that Romeo was still rooted in his profound slumber. 

She glanced at her wristwatch and saw that it was past Romeo's work hour. 

"Oh, my days. Look at the time. Why is he still sleeping? I thought he was supposed to be at work today?" She asked herself rhetorically. Plenty of unanswered questions in her head.

Nancy became more interested to find out why Romeo was still sleeping at that odd hour. Not knowing what to do, she picked up the pillow and hit it against Romeo's head, forcing him to wake up with a sharp pain in his head. 

"Ouch! That hurt. My head is banging already. What was that for? 

Do you intend to hurt me or what?" Romeo cried as he nursed his head. His eyes were reddish. He looked pale, as though he'd been sleeping for decades. 

"Who cares if you get hurt or bleed? I was just pleased that I was finally able to get you off the bed since you've decided to act like a pregnant lady," Nancy smirked. She was unbothered by Romeo's cry. 

"Can you see what time it is now?

It's past your work time and you are still home. Is there something I should know? That's quite unlike you.' Nancy asked. She sat next to Romeo on the bed to avoid missing out on any information. 

She knew something was wrong. The Romeo she got married to never goes to work late, let alone misses work for anything In that world.

Romeo yawned. "Aren't you supposed to drop the kids at school? They might get punished for showing up late. I am pretty sure you don't want that to happen to our kids, do you?" 

Romeo changed the topic to favor himself. He wasn't still certain about his decision to let Nancy know about his job. But what he doesn't understand is that Nancy can't fully prepare. It didn't look like she was ready to leave anytime soon, and neither was she bothered if the kids went to school late. 

A few minutes after Romeo mentioned the kids, they all showed up in the bedroom, all dressed up In their various uniforms. 

The sight of them thrilled Romeo. He knew that he was finally able to escape from Nancy's bag of troubles. 

"Good morning, Dad," the eldest son, who had just turned 6, greeted Romeo and fell into his arms. 

"Dad, we've waited in the car for too long now. We are already getting tired. Since mom hasn't shown up yet, who's taking us to school this morning? We don't want to be late. We might get punished," Andre lamented on behalf of his siblings. 

Romeo sighed and forced a smile. "Go wait in the car with your siblings. Your mom is coming to take you all to school. I will be heading to work in a bit. Don't worry, you all won't get to school late, let alone be punished." 

After the departure of the kids, Romeo stared at Nancy. "The kids need you. I wouldn't want them to come here and lodge another complaint. You do know the next thing to do,"

"You do know it's wrong to lie to your kids about your work, don't you?" Nancy flared up. She might have stood up, but it didn't guarantee that she was done making trouble. 

"I can't recall telling you that I am not heading to work today. You're the one making up stories that aren't real. Now, if you will excuse me, I have got to use the bathroom. I gotta step outside." Romeo spoke in his defense and dashed to the restroom. 

He gave Nancy a run for her money. He made her start doubting her belief. For some moments, Nancy stood alone; she felt stupid. She is tempted to apologize to Romeo for the misconception, but her ego won't let her. 

"Just so you know, you haven't won on this one," She yelled for the last time bad exited the room.
