NERIAH'S POV

When I stepped back into DC, I swore I wouldn’t let my pulse betray me.

Not for the glass walls that stretched endlessly over the city. Not for the stares that followed me the moment I walked past the receptionist’s desk. And certainly not for the man now sitting in the CEO's office.

I can hear the whispers as I move through the open floor. Some people glanced at me like I was a ghost who had wandered back where I didn’t belong. Others avoided my eyes entirely, pretending to type faster the closer I got. I told myself their reactions didn’t matter. I was here for the job, for the paycheck, for the dignity of standing on my own two feet again. Nothing more.

I wasn't even here because Denver Chadwick asked me to come back, I was here for me.

The thought of Denver staring at me in that hospital room, bandaged and still insisting on being in control, something in my chest fluttered violently.

I spotted him through the glass wall of his office as I made my way to my desk .

  • Married To My Ex-husband's Half-brother    Chapter 111

DENVER'S POVThe moment Neriah walks out that door, I turn on Gia. "What on earth is wrong with you?" "Me?" She scoffs, "Denver I should ask you that question, honey. What's going on?" I drag a rough hand through my hair, sighing exasperatedly. She's not wrong. I need to know what's going on. Why do I get so irrational when it comes to dealing with Neriah? Is it because I know that she's been marked for slaughter by the King of America, or because Gia's presence now suddenly irritates me. No logical explanation seems to be available for this. "Denver....""Nothing's going on, Gia. You're just too hard on Neriah and I think it's high time you gave her a break."Gia's mouth falls open in shock. "She's not the one you should be caring about, Denver. It's me. You should be worried about how I'll feel seeing that you got another woman lunch when I'm right in front of you. You should be worried about me strangling Neriah in her sleep because she now shares equal privileges with me..."

NERIAH'S POV Denver Chadwick's one hell of a character. The paper bags in my hands are starting to weigh down on my arms, my fingers clutch tightly on them, sweat dripping down the sides of my neck. Why the hell does he want me to get two lunch packs, and why did one have to be what a lady liked to have for lunch? He couldn't possibly want to eat with me, could he?Heat flushes up my neck at the thought. He's been acting all nice and protective lately. The scene with Myles at the office was completely inappropriate but I don't know why my lips curled up excitedly or why the urge to rise and throw my arms around his neck suddenly came over me. He's the sweetest, nicest man I've ever met but I'm sure he doesn't know it. Infact, he'd rather puke in public than believe it. The smile on my lips wipe off as I walk into the company. It seems like everyone is staring at me. Sometimes I think I'm starting to get used to it but every single time I walk through those sliding doors, my brava

DENVER'S POV The second Myles opens his mouth in front of her, I want to smash his teeth. He shouldn’t be here. He has no business hanging around my companylike some overeager schoolboy with flowers and coffee. Flowers. Christ. I take the bouquet off her desk before she can even smile at it, shoving it back into his hand like it’s garbage. He tries to mask the sting with a smirk, but I see the anger in his eyes. The way they narrow, the way his jaw clenches.Good. Let him be pissed.“This is a workplace, not some fancy diner,” I bite out, not caring that the whole damn office has gone quiet. Her colleagues are all pretending not to watch, but their eyes flicker. My voice drops to a lower but even sharper tone. “Neriah, my office. Now.”She startles, pushing her chair back like she’s stepping into fire. Myles watches her go, something smug curling in his expression like he thinks this is a game and he's just lost. I do

  • Married To My Ex-husband's Half-brother    Chapter 108

NERIAH'S POV Now that I’m alone with my thoughts, I see it all over again. Gia’s hand rising viciously in the air, and Denver stepping between us. His cast made him clumsy but his grip was firm as he caught her wrist mid-swing. His face was a mask of cold fury, and for a second, I couldn't believe it was me he was shieldingI shiver even now at the memory, my fingers drifting up to the necklace clasped around my throat. The metal is cool against my skin. I trace the pendant absently, letting out a sigh I don’t realize I’ve been holding. What is wrong with me? Why am I suddenly thinking dreamily about Denver of all people? He’s moody, sharp-tongued, and impossibly controlling. He's not the kind of man I'd look to fawn over on a normal day. “Focus,” I whisper to myself, straightening the stack of papers on my desk.I’m supposed to be drafting a proposal for the upcoming contract. Words blur across the page, bullet points refusing to arrange themselves into anything persuasive. My hea

LAURA'S POV Liam has been acting differently ever since I refused him. Neither of us wants to acknowledge the real problem between us. He hasn’t pressed me again, hasn’t even let his eyes linger on me the way they used to, but I can feel the weight of it in the silence between us. He now moves around me carefully, as if he's walking on eggshells. Honestly, it’s a freaking relief. I don’t have to fend off his touches, dodge his innuendos, or feel bad about not wanting him to touch me. Trying to take my mind off all the drama, I busy myself with watching my son. Every hour, every flicker of his expression is under my scrutiny. I used to think epilepsy was all about shaking limbs and foaming mouths, I had no idea seizures could hide inside his belly, twisting him in pain while the world around him moves on in oblivion. It now explains his complaints of stomach aches and the episodes of nausea I once dismissed as symptoms of teething. There's been no incident since that day but someh

  • Married To My Ex-husband's Half-brother    Chapter 106

DENVER'S POV This damned cast itches like hell, but the doctor said I can't let myself scratch. Sighing in frustration, I sign the last file in front of me, ignoring the dull ache that crawls up my arm with the refusal to scratch hell out of my arm. The bullet may have torn through muscle, but the damage to my company’s image these past few weeks has cut deeper. There’s a knock at the door. From the raps I can tell it's Kade, the head of security here. “Come in,” It'd be amazing to have someone else distract me from this crazy itch. He walks into the office, does a small bow and stands at alert. “What is it?”“I did what you asked.” His voice drops as it someone else might hear us. “I’ve been keeping tabs on Neriah since the day you came back.”I lean back in my chair, the leather creaking. “And?”His eyes flicker, hinting just a second of hesitation. “There’s been a black SUV circling the building all week. I noticed them trailing her from some blocks after her apartment. No one
