The bartender let out a low, gravelly chuckle that rumbled deep within his broad chest, sending an unexpected, electric shiver straight down my spine.

"A double? Sweetheart, judging by the way you're gripping that barstool like it's a life raft, you look like a woman who's one bad word away from total collapse. Are you sure your system can handle the hard stuff?" he asked, his dark eyes sparkling with wicked amusement.

I narrowed my eyes at him, crossing my arms over my chest in a defensive gesture.

"I didn't come here to be psychoanalyzed by a bartender with an attitude problem. I asked for a drink, not a lecture on my emotional stability," I snapped back, surprised by my own sudden boldness.

He raised a single, well-defined dark eyebrow, resting his large palms flat against the wooden counter as he leaned forward, closing the distance between us.

"Spunky. I like that. Most high-society women who wander into my club wearing designer dresses and terrified expressions usually burst into tears within thirty seconds," he murmured, his gaze dropping briefly to my wedding ring before snapping back up to meet my eyes. "Husband troubles?"

The bluntness of his question caught me entirely off guard. How did he know? Was my misery written that clearly across my face?

"Is it that obvious?" I whispered bitterly, staring down at the swirling amber liquid as he finally slid a heavy glass tumbler filled with dark bourbon and ice across the polished wood.

"It's written all over you, sweetheart," he replied smoothly, reaching for a cocktail shaker. "Men who let women like you walk out into a rainy night alone are blind fools. What did the bastard do?"

Maybe it was the alcohol hitting my empty stomach, or maybe it was the liberating realization that nothing in my life could get any worse, but I found myself talking.

Without filtering my thoughts, I poured out my entire pathetic evening to a complete stranger—how I caught my husband balls-deep in his secretary on his office sofa, how he mocked my aspirations, and how he threatened to crush my father's medical care if I ever dared to ask for a divorce.

The bartender listened in absolute, terrifying silence. His jaw tightened rhythmically, and the muscles in his forearms flexed as he gripped the shaker with enough force to shatter glass.

When I finally finished my rant, my chest heaving and tears stinging the corners of my eyes, he poured himself a shot of whiskey, raised his glass toward me in a silent toast, and swallowed it in one fluid motion.

"Your husband sounds like a piece of garbage," he said flatly, his voice dropping an octave into something chillingly lethal. "A man who uses financial chains to trap his wife is no man at all. He's a coward."

A dry, humorless laugh escaped my lips. "Tell me about it. But what choice do I have? I'm trapped. I have no money of my own, my baby girl is stuck in that toxic house, and my father's life depends on his medical bills being paid."

The bartender stared at me for a long, suffocating moment, his obsidian eyes searching my face as if calculating every single word I had spoken.

"There's always a choice, Chloe," he said softly.

I froze, my breath catching in my throat. I hadn't told him my name.

"How... how do you know my name?" I stammered, pulling back slightly on my barstool.

A slow, dangerous smirk spread across his lips, transforming his rugged face into something breathtakingly handsome and utterly predatory.

"People in this city whisper, sweetheart. And Dante Moretti always knows who walks into his establishments," he replied casually.

Dante Moretti. The name hit me like a physical shockwave.

Even inside my sheltered domestic bubble, I had heard whispers of that name. Dante Moretti was the elusive, ruthless billionaire tycoon who owned half the city's real estate, upscale clubs, and shipping ports. Rumor had it he built his multi-billion dollar empire from the blood and sweat of the underground streets before legitimizing his massive corporate conglomerate.

He wasn't just a bartender. He was *the* Dante Moretti.

Before I could scramble off my stool and run for the exit, Dante reached across the counter, his large, warm fingers gently wrapping around my wrist with a firm, inescapable grip.

"Where are you running off to, Chloe? The night is just getting started," he murmured, his voice sending a violent tremor through my entire body.

"I... I need to go home. My daughter... my husband..." I stammered frantically.

"Fuck your husband," Dante interrupted, his dark eyes flashing with dangerous authority. "If you go back to him tonight, you go right back into his cage. But what if I told you there's a way out? What if I told you that you can not only get your freedom, but completely destroy Marcus Vance and take everything he owns?"

I stared up at him, my heart hammering like a trapped bird against my ribs. "What kind of sick game are you playing, Mr. Moretti?"

"Not a game, Chloe. A business proposition," Dante replied, releasing my wrist and sliding a sleek black business card across the counter toward my fingertips. "Think about it. When you're ready to burn your old life to the ground, call the number on that card. I'll be waiting."

  • Married To My Husband’s Rival   A contract

"Marry you? Are you out of your mind, Mr. Moretti? We barely know each other!" I blurted out. My hands were shaking so much that I almost dropped my drink. I gripped the stem of my champagne glass tight.Dante let out a low, rich laugh. It echoed softly across the quiet rooftop terrace. His dark eyes crinkled at the corners with amusement."Call me Dante, Chloe. And no, I am not out of my mind. I am a practical businessman," he said smoothly. He leaned forward and put his forearms on the table. "Think about it. You need total protection, financial freedom, and the complete destruction of your husband. I need a respectable, smart queen by my side. I need to permanently silence the crazy rumors in the papers about my life and my business. It is a win-win deal for both of us.""A deal," I repeated, feeling skeptical. "Not a real marriage?""A contract, Chloe. We write down strict rules. You get your freedom, your father's hospital bills paid in full right now by my personal foundation, a

"Meet me at the rooftop lounge of the Grand Meridian Hotel at noon tomorrow," Dante's deep voice murmured over the phone line. "Bring your passport, your marriage certificate, and any documents you can secretly copy from Marcus's home office. We're going to wage war, Chloe."Before I could reply, the line clicked dead.I spent the remainder of the night pacing the creaky wooden floors of the guest cottage, my mind racing a mile a minute. The sheer recklessness of what I was about to do terrified me, yet an intoxicating thrill pulsed through my veins. For the first time in years, I was taking control of my own destiny. When morning broke, the household was quiet. Marcus had already left for his corporate headquarters early, eager to escape my presence and likely meet up with Tiffany.I slipped back into the main house while the housekeeper was busy in the kitchen, making a beeline for Marcus’s locked study. Using a bobby pin I had learned to manipulate from old mystery novels, I ma

And right now, he was offering me a lifeline. But what was the catch? Nothing in this world was ever free. Especially not when it came from a man whose reputation was built on total ruthlessness and power."I cannot accept this," I whispered. He leaned his elbows against the counter and pinned me with that intense, unwavering gaze of his."Keep it, Chloe. You do not have to decide tonight. The rain was pouring down hard outside, washing against the dark tinted glass of the upscale corporate tower, but inside Marcus Vance’s private office, the heat was suffocating.I stood frozen just inches away from the mahogany door, my breath catching tightly in my throat as I listened to the muffled, breathless sounds leaking from the other side.A woman's high-pitched moan echoed through the quiet corridor, followed by a deep, gruff male voice growling words of pure filth.
