The Rooftop Proposal

"Meet me at the rooftop lounge of the Grand Meridian Hotel at noon tomorrow," Dante's deep voice murmured over the phone line. "Bring your passport, your marriage certificate, and any documents you can secretly copy from Marcus's home office. We're going to wage war, Chloe."

Before I could reply, the line clicked dead.

I spent the remainder of the night pacing the creaky wooden floors of the guest cottage, my mind racing a mile a minute. The sheer recklessness of what I was about to do terrified me, yet an intoxicating thrill pulsed through my veins. For the first time in years, I was taking control of my own destiny.

When morning broke, the household was quiet. Marcus had already left for his corporate headquarters early, eager to escape my presence and likely meet up with Tiffany.

I slipped back into the main house while the housekeeper was busy in the kitchen, making a beeline for Marcus’s locked study. Using a bobby pin I had learned to manipulate from old mystery novels, I managed to pick the antique brass lock within a few frantic minutes.

Inside his private safe, hidden behind a framed painting, sat a goldmine of incriminating evidence—tax evasion records, secret offshore bank accounts in the Cayman Islands, and signed contracts proving Marcus had deliberately manipulated my late father's company into bankruptcy before forcing me into marriage.

Tears of pure fury blurred my vision, but I didn't hesitate. I pulled my portable scanner from my bag, scanned every single incriminating document directly onto my encrypted flash drive, and locked the safe back up precisely as I had found it.

By eleven-thirty, I kissed my sleeping daughter Lily goodbye, leaving her with our trusted nanny, and drove my battered sedan downtown toward the Grand Meridian Hotel.

The rooftop lounge was an oasis of luxury—all glass walls, white marble tables, and breathtaking panoramic views of the city skyline. It was completely empty, reserved exclusively for high-rolling VIPs.

Dante Moretti was already sitting at a corner table, dressed in a sharply tailored charcoal-grey suit that accentuated his broad shoulders and powerful frame. A silver Rolex gleamed against his tanned wrist as he swirled a cup of espresso.

When I approached his table, he looked up, his dark obsidian eyes softening just a fraction before a slow, approving smirk spread across his lips.

"Right on time. I like a woman who keeps her appointments," Dante said, gesturing for me to take the seat opposite him.

I sat down nervously, sliding the encrypted flash drive and a manila folder across the marble table.

"Everything you asked for is in there," I said, my voice barely above a whisper. "Bank records, offshore accounts, and the exact legal documents Marcus used to steal my family's company."

Dante didn't even open the folder. Instead, he kept his intense gaze locked entirely on my face, studying me with an unsettling, mesmerizing intensity.

"You move fast, Chloe. That's a dangerous trait in a woman. I love it," he remarked smoothly, signaling a waiter for a glass of champagne for me.

"I'm not playing games, Mr. Moretti. Marcus thinks he owns me. He thinks he can use my father's health as a leash forever. I want him ruined. I want his money, his company, and his social standing stripped away until he has nothing left.",

Dante leaned back in his chair, a dark, dangerous predator smile playing at the corners of his mouth.

"Consider it done. But destroying a man like Marcus Vance takes more than just leaked documents. We need a distraction. We need a public scandal so massive that his corporate board of directors fires him before the end of the week.",

"What kind of scandal?" I asked, leaning forward.

"A marriage scandal," Dante replied casually, taking a sip of his espresso. "Marcus Vance prides himself on being the untouchable corporate golden boy with a pristine family image. How do you think his conservative investors will react when they discover his brand-new, drop-dead gorgeous wife has filed for divorce and publicly stepped out on his arm with his fiercest billionaire rival?"

My breath caught sharply in my throat. "Wait... you mean—"

"I mean, Chloe, you are going to marry me," Dante said calmly, dropping the bombshell with absolute serenity. "A high-profile, explosive wedding between Marcus Vance's estranged wife and Dante Moretti. By the time Marcus realizes what hit him, his stocks will have crashed, his board will have ousted him, and you will walk away with half his fortune and absolute custody of your daughter."

I stared at him in stunned silence. Marry Dante Moretti? It was insane. It was completely out of a dark romance novel. Yet, as I looked into his dark, unwavering eyes, I knew it was the only way to win.

"Marry you? Are you out of your mind, Mr. Moretti? We barely know each other!" I blurted out. My hands were shaking so much that I almost dropped my drink. I gripped the stem of my champagne glass tight.Dante let out a low, rich laugh. It echoed softly across the quiet rooftop terrace. His dark eyes crinkled at the corners with amusement."Call me Dante, Chloe. And no, I am not out of my mind. I am a practical businessman," he said smoothly. He leaned forward and put his forearms on the table. "Think about it. You need total protection, financial freedom, and the complete destruction of your husband. I need a respectable, smart queen by my side. I need to permanently silence the crazy rumors in the papers about my life and my business. It is a win-win deal for both of us.""A deal," I repeated, feeling skeptical. "Not a real marriage?""A contract, Chloe. We write down strict rules. You get your freedom, your father's hospital bills paid in full right now by my personal foundation, a

I stared at the sleek black business card resting on the polished wooden bar. It had silver letters stamped right on it. The letters spelled out a private direct line. My mind was spinning in a dozen different directions.Dante Moretti was a billionaire club owner, an underworld legend, and the most dangerous man in the entire city. And right now, he was offering me a lifeline. But what was the catch? Nothing in this world was ever free. Especially not when it came from a man whose reputation was built on total ruthlessness and power."I cannot accept this," I whispered. I pulled my hand back quickly, as if the paper card were burning hot.Dante chuckled softly. It was a rich, deep sound. He leaned his elbows against the counter and pinned me with that intense, unwavering gaze of his."Keep it, Chloe. You do not have to decide tonight.
