Chapter One

The first thing she felt was pain. Her head was pounding like someone was hitting it with a hammer. Her mouth was dry. Her whole body felt heavy and sore.

She slowly opened her eyes.

The hotel room was a mess. Expensive bottles were scattered everywhere. Her expensive dress was on the floor.

One of her heels was broken.

A man’s shirt was hanging on the chair.

She sat up and held her head. “Ugh…what the hell happened last night?” she muttered.

She reached for her phone on the nightstand. The second she unlocked it, notifications flooded in

Hundreds of messages.

Missed calls.

Videos.

She clicked on one.

There she was—drunk, shouting, throwing a glass, arguing with people at the party. The video already had thousands of views. Another video showed her almost getting into a fight with the son of her father’s business partner.

“Shit…” she whispered.

She tried calling her best friend. “C'mon Stacy, pick up…ugh!”

No answer.

She tried another one. Nothing.

Only one number kept calling her over and over.

Jim.

She stared at the screen for a long time before finally answering.

“Hello?” Her voice was rough.

“Miss,” the family driver’s voice came through. He sounded serious. “Your parents want you to come home right now. I’m downstairs.”

She rolled her eyes and fell back on the bed. “Tell them I’m fine. I’ll come later.”

There was a short silence.

“I’m sorry, Miss… but they said I shouldn’t leave without you.”

She closed her eyes and let out a long, annoyed breath. “I'll come downstairs soon.”

She hung up.

Haelyn Eastwood.

At twenty-five, she was the only daughter of one of the city's wealthiest families. She had grown up surrounded by money, luxury, and people who were always willing to clean up her messes.

She was beautiful, confident, and knew it. She was also well-known on social media, with hundreds of thousands of followers who followed her for her expensive lifestyle, fashion, parties, and glamorous photos.

Her followers knew her for her luxury lifestyle—designer outfits, expensive vacations, five-star hotels, exclusive parties, shopping hauls, and videos of her getting ready for events. Her lifestyle was what first attracted people to her—designer clothes, luxury hotels, expensive vacations, exclusive parties, and shopping sprees.

But that wasn't why they stayed.

Haelyn was entertaining.

She had a loud personality, a sharp mouth, and absolutely no filter. She filmed herself trying on outfits, getting ready for parties, complaining about bad restaurants, arguing with her friends, and celebrities.

Her followers loved watching her dramatic reactions and the way she could turn even the smallest inconvenience into a full-blown crisis.

She often went live with her friends, where thousands of people watched them gossip, laugh, and argue over the most ridiculous things.

With her long black hair, tanned skin, striking features, and plump pink lips, Haelyn had never struggled to get attention.

Unfortunately, she had also never struggled to get what she wanted.

She was spoiled, stubborn, outspoken, and used to living by her own rules.

If she wanted something, she got it.

If she didn't like something, she made sure everyone knew.

And if she made a mistake?

Her parents usually fixed it.

At least, they always had.

Until now.

She closed her eyes and let out a long, annoyed breath before getting off the bed. With a long breath, she stood up from the expensive bed. Her eyes averted on the stranger that she can't recall.

She grabbed her dress from the floor and slipped in it. With one last glance, she left the hotel room.

The driver didn’t say much on the way home. He just kept his eyes on the road.

She sat in the back seat with her arms crossed, still wearing last night’s makeup. Her head was still aching, and every bump on the road made it worse.

When they arrived at the house, she didn’t wait for him to open the door. She stepped out and walked inside like she always did.

“Mom? Dad?” she called out.

Her mother came out first. Her eyes were red, like she had been crying. Her father stood behind her, looking tired.

“You’re finally home,” her mother said softly. She walked closer and gently touched her daughter’s arm. “Are you hurt?”

She pulled her arm away. “I’m fine. It’s not a big deal. People are just making it look worse than it is.”

Her father shook his head. “It’s not just videos this time. You almost ruined a very important deal. And you could have gotten hurt. You have millions of people watching everything you do, Haelyn,” her father said. “Do you even understand how quickly that video spread?”

She crossed her arms. “So? It’ll be old news in a few days.”

“That’s what you always say.”

Her mother looked at her sadly. “Haelyn, people were calling us this morning. Reporters were asking questions. Your name is everywhere.”

She rolled her eyes. “Dad, please. I've had a long night. Can I go?”

Her mother looked at her with a sad expression. “Not like this. Sit down…please. We need to talk.”

She sighed. “Fine.”

Her father sat across from her. “We’ve made a decision. You’re leaving the city for a while.”

She frowned. “Leaving? To where?”

“A small town,” he said. “You’ll stay there. And…you’ll get married.”

Silence.

“Married? Are you both joking right now?”

Her mother reached for her hand. “We’re not joking, baby. This is serious.”

“No.” She stood up fast. “I’m not marrying some random man! You can't force me.”

“We’re not trying to hurt you Haelyn,” her father said quietly.

“For what?” she shouted. “From partying? From living my life?”

Neither of them answered directly.

“It’s final. And you're going whether you like it or not.” His voice, stern and cold.

Her father placed an envelope on the table. “Your flight is in three hours. Economy class. All your cards have been stopped. You’ll get a small amount of cash for the road…that’s it.”

Her eyes widened. “You cut off my accounts?!”

“Yes.”

“Why!? First, you send me off to get married to a stranger that I don't even know and the next thing, you cut off my cards. What next? Making me to have a baby?”

“Haelyn baby—”

“No mom! No! Don't Haelyn me at all. You don't love me because if you do, you won't send me miles away from the city to a poor small town that I don't even know!”

“Haelyn Eastwood! You would not talk to your mother that way!” Her father's voice cut through.

Haelyn chest raced. She didn't like it. “Ugh! I hate you guys!”

She just turned around and walked upstairs, slamming the door behind her.

Two hours later, she was at the airport.

She had never flown economy in her life.

The seat was small. The space was tight. People were sitting way too close to her, and the air smelled strange and musty. Haelyn sat by the window with her arms crossed, still angry and confused.

She looked around the plane.

The man beside her had his eyes closed, already trying to sleep. The woman across the aisle was staring at her phone with an annoyed expression. A man behind Haelyn was rubbing his forehead and sighed continuously.

Haelyn pulled out her phone.

If she had to suffer through this, at least her followers were going to hear about it.

She opened her camera and started recording.

“Okay, guys,” she whispered. “You are not going to believe where my parents are sending me.”

The man beside her opened his eyes.

Haelyn continued.

“I’m being sent away to some tiny town, and apparently I have to stay there for a while.”

She turned the camera toward herself. “And this is how they decided to send me.”

She pointed the camera down at her seat. “Economy.”

The man beside her let out a long sigh.

Haelyn looked at him.“What?”

“Nothing.” He closed his eyes again.

She rolled her eyes and turned back to her camera. “Look at this seat. I can barely move.”

She shifted around dramatically.

The woman across the aisle glanced over. “Could you keep the camera on yourself?”

Haelyn frowned.

“It is on me.”

“You keep pointing it everywhere.”

“Wow. I never knew.”

Haelyn stared at her for a second before turning back to the camera. “Apparently, people are miserable and bitchy.”

The woman scoffed. “Excuse me?”

“You heard me. Miserable and bitchy. Not my fault that you're like that so stop being a bitch and face your goddamn front and leave me the fuck alone.”

The woman was shocked. She turned her face to another direction, embarrassed and furious.

Haelyn quickly turned the camera back toward herself.

She paused.

“Moving on.” She started recording again.

“I also have no idea what I'm supposed to do when I get there. There's apparently no proper shopping mall, no decent restaurants—”

“Please,” the man behind her groaned. “Can you stop talking?”

Haelyn turned around. “What the fuck is wrong with you people? Leave me the fuck alone. I wasn't even talking to you.”

The man stared at her.

Haelyn turned back around.

She looked into the camera with an offended expression. “You guys are witnessing this.”

The man beside her suddenly spoke without opening his eyes.

“Please don't put me in your video.”

Haelyn blinked. “I wasn't going to.”

“You were pointing the camera at me.”

“I was pointing it at myself.”

“Then that's your fault. Go to sleep or something.”

The woman across the aisle shook her head and went back to her phone. Haelyn waited a few seconds before starting another recording.

“Okay, guys. Update.”

The man behind her groaned again.

Haelyn smiled at the camera. “I think everyone here hates me and that's a good thing.”

The woman across the aisle muttered, “We're getting there.”

After a few rounds, she quickly ended the recording.

For a moment, she just stared at her phone. At least her followers were going to love this.

She kept checking her phone even though she already knew her cards weren’t working.

As the plane took off, she stared out the window at the city getting smaller below her.

“This is temporary,” she whispered to herself. “I'll be back soon.”

She leaned her head against the window.

But deep down, for the first time, she wasn't so sure. She was still annoyed, and honestly, she wanted her followers to know what her parents had done to her.

A few minutes later, her phone started buzzing.

Then again.

And again.

She frowned and looked at the screen.

12 new messages.

Then 47.

Then 103.

“What the hell?”

She opened her story. The replies were coming in fast:

‘Girl, you're complaining about flying economy?’

‘Some of us would be happy to afford a plane ticket.’

‘This is so out of touch.’

‘Imagine calling economy a punishment 😭’

‘Your parents are sending you away and you're worried about the seat?’

Haelyn stared at the screen. “Miserable people.”

She scrolled further.

Some of her followers were defending her:

‘She's obviously joking. Y'all take

everything seriously.’

‘Leave her alone. She literally just got on a plane.’

‘People are so miserable.’

‘But there were more comments criticizing her.’

Then she saw a post from a gossip account:

HAELYN EASTWOOD COMPLAINS ABOUT FLYING ECONOMY AFTER FAMILY DRAMA

Her eyes widened. “I didn't think this through.”

The post already had thousands of likes.

Someone had reposted her video with the caption: “Must be hard being rich.”

Haelyn locked her phone. She put her phone down and looked out the window.

She had only been on the plane for a few minutes.
